Off The Ball

Күн бұрын

Here is Roy Keane' looking back on his time coaching Ireland.
The Corkman was at our Off The Ball roadshow with thanks to Cadbury, who celebrated their third year as ‘Official Snack Partner’ to the Premier League with this special evening with Cadbury Ambassadors Roy Keane and Gary Neville.
All money raised from ticket sales was donated to Aware - Cadbury Ireland’s charity partner. Be sure to check out Aware.ie, to see all the brilliant work they are doing in the mental health space.

Roy Keane and Gary Neville the original chuckle brothers. The trouble with Keane is that he thinks he is above everyone else.yes he was a very talented footballer, but also a dirty player. He should not slag off a fellow professional like John Walters, a hard working professional. l have seen John playing a lot and I can honestly say if he was having a good game or not he would always give 100 per cent . He would run for 90 minutes,he would give is all. I think the reason why Keane dislikes John Walters is because John wasn't afraid and stood up to him. I know if I was a manager I know out of the players who I would like in my team. On ya bike Roy keane

So you think that mental illness is something to joke about? I don't care if it's RK, former President Obama or anybody else....Making fun of someone who HAS made an effort to raise awareness of this big, big problem that has been shoved under the carpet in society for so long is NOT cool, and if you you think it is, then shame on you, I sincerely hope neither YOU nor anyone near of dear to you ever has to deal with mental illness. But for the media's over indulgent attitude towards RK; an "Ara-it's-RK-that's-who-is-he-is-boy, you-won't-change-him-boy..." way of thinking, he'd have been off the air and all of his lucrative pundit contracts ripped up very quickly. Suppose somebody else, let's say Gemma O'Doherty or her side kick John Waters, had been the ones making similar type comments, belittling people who have helped raise awareness of mental illness. We both know they'd be off the air, no network would air their comments, and they'd be blackballed in the media for life. Yet when it's RK, seemingly, all is forgiven very quickly...a SICK situation indeed...

Bit of a strange one this. Keane was a colossus of a player, but here he is having relatively needless potshots at players with about 10% of his ability and stature, 2 of whom right at the end of their careers. Stephen Ward is 34, Walters is 35, no shame in either player playing (or indeed struggling for gametime) at Championship level at their age. Many a player retires well before that age. Wayne Rooney is 33 and has been hiding in the MLS for the guts of 2 years, he is a shadow of his former self, but at his peak he was one of the best players in the world. Walters and Ward are just trying to prolong their careers, like Rooney is. The very fact that Keane is sticking with these grudges sort of shows how easy it is to get into his head. Keane's gripes, if he has any, should be kept to more equally matched people. In fairness to Keane though there have been plenty of people willing to throw the knife into him, and as poor a comment as what he said about Walters was, Walters himself saying some pretty poor things about Keane. Keane shouldn't have made the comment, but he was on a roll in talking about somebody who clearly he doesn't like, and who doesn't like him. It happens. Walters, to his credit, never shirked his responsibilities for Ireland. He loved playing for us, and never failed to put in an obscene amount of work well into his 30's. He was a great pro (albeit not truly elite), and the personal dislike that both people have for each other should not transfer over into untruths and personal low blows.

Other parts of this video were interesting and enjoyable, but very frankly, seeing RK's nasty, vindictive, malicious side when he disparages Jon Walters, a true, loyal servant of Irish football for so long was neither. The panel should have been more assertive, instead of letting him rant on over 2 minutes. It was also disturbing to see so many audience members laughing and applauding this, especially given what Jon had discussed in his Late Late Show appearance. Shame on you “Die Hard Keano Fans” in the audience for being so shallow. Great player though RK was, his comments in this particular section show why he’s never been able to hold down a management job for very long.
