Troy H they are cast aluminum. They don't need them like the stamped steel ones. Problem with the leak is no breather on them. Builds up to much pressure inside the engine nowhere to go.

Matt, I bought a 70 Chevelle Malibu about 1995 for $350. Pulled the 350 w/Powerglide and dropped in a 400 SB wTH350. Then, a 12 bolt out is a 70 Monte Carlo(they r 3 inches narrower than a Chevelle rear). After a night of Jack Daniels, I had to rebuild the engine. Then...Perfection...I ended up with a 406 SB, 4 bolt mains, 12 bolt rear w/ 3.73 gears to 3.25 gears out of a Caprice wagon, new 750 Holly, Accel supercoil. It run fantastic. I had new rear springs out of a 67 Chevelle that lifted mine up 3 inched...NO wheel hop at all. You could run it 70 and still get 17 mpg...and run the piss out of it and get 10. It got T-Boned...so, that was it. So, in 97, I found a Olds 88 Royale convertible, 455 HO, factory posi rear, HD suspension...lot of fun with it for a few...had to sell it.

its going to leak oil anyway. just a bad design. but almost most definitely you have over tightened the gasket now that you can get a good hard torque on it. try a thick gasket with thick beads of silicon on both sides of that and 100% oil cleaned off all contacting surfaces. Good luck.

The car seems like a good buy for that price. It runs, drives, new tires and looks decent. It would have been perfect for the channel project car. But, alas, it isn't in the cards at the moment. KZbin cred is still a bit lacking. It would have been a nice adventure though. I would have driven it back to Plano and with the work you put in it I bet it would have made it! If it's a stroke 383 it should slap you back in the seat. You either have the wrong gearing or a tired engine. A properly camed 383 with 3.73 gears and a proper carburetor will toast a Regular LS swap

I want to say that I started out as a bit of a hater but I couldn't hate you guys for long. I figured out that I'm pretty sure your really genuine hardworking American family. Your videos have helped me a lot through some really tough times in my life. I now have a family of my own, I'm happy healthy and looking forward to a life like this with my family.
