Dr. Nadal was the first ophthalmologist to implant an artificial vision device in Spain and the first in the world to rehabilitate a deaf-blind patient with an Argus artificial vision device.
He talks about this professional milestone with Risto Mejide, with whom they address the future, already present, of blind patients who can recover their vision with this type of device as long as their optic nerve is not damaged. Something that seems like science fiction “but it is not and it is happening,” he emphasizes during the interview.
The doctor, with more than 18,000 retinal surgeries performed, explains that "we do not see with eyes, we see with the brain. We must understand that it is the brain that learns to see, learns to discern the electrical stimulus, learns to create images, to create the 3D that we all have in both eyes and, therefore, the one that generates all vision.”
