It never ceases to amaze me the things you can fix. Your fabrication skills are next level as well as your work ethic. After finding your videos, I spent about a month watching all of your content. I've learned a tremendous amount of little short cuts. You could make a video a day, and it still wouldn't be enough. Again, great job. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. When welding on such thick plate would larger diameter wire speed things up. Nice video that shows that no matter how much planning goes into a job ,things crop up unexpectedly .
@OFW2 сағат бұрын
I was running 1/16” wire. I probably wouldn’t go bigger than that unless both pieces were 3/4” or thicker. But in the comparison between.045 and 1/16”. The 1/16” wire is faster and has a higher deposition rate.

@FarmerTom-bz6tn2 сағат бұрын
Part way through the video the thought came to mind that it may become necessary to have the ability to bend pieces on site. That in theory sounds to me like an expensive thought. 🙂 Whether that proves to be practical and ever cost effective, remains to be known and experienced. Most likely depends on how much fabrication work you do or will do for projects away from the shop. Just thinking out loud or um in typed words here. Always impressed by your work as someone who has repaired, serviced, and operated all kinds of heavy equipment. The weather has often times made things interesting. LOL
@OFW2 минут бұрын
That would be expensive and difficult to do correctly. But some temporary solutions could be constructed.

You have so much dedication. Greg you are the best of the best. Seems flux core is the thing now. When I was in high school we got a flux core setup. I did not mesh with it much. That was in 1978. I worked in a vessel shop as a burner. They used a lot of it. They were using 211 wire and 3M wire made by Lincoln. I am just a pipeline welder getting ready to retire soon. Like I say would love to be your apprentice. Start me off by sweeping the floor lol. Have you always had the plasma burning table? Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

i cant believe the whole frame cracked like that, not an easy repair considering the weight. Even our small crusher weighs close to 90,000 lbs and the large one is 120,000 lbs. the amount of vibrating those go through is crazy. im gonna triple check all our frames when i go into work tomorrow lol

@arkhars3895 сағат бұрын
Not a welder here, so I apologize if this is a dumb question - In the plates you fabricated to reinforce the areas that were failing/cracking, why did you put holes in the middle of them? Was that just to create additional points to weld? Assuming that increases the strength of the reinforcement?
@OFW3 сағат бұрын
You are correct. It creates more weld area. Technically making it more stout.

@OFW3 сағат бұрын
It will probably do pretty well.
@Stan_in_Shelton_WA12 сағат бұрын
Those cracks show more on the sides of the members but the highest tensile stress load is on the top of those places. Did you put any reinforcement there or just relying on the 3/4 plates on the sides? Those were a lot thicker than the base material if I saw that right, maybe 1/2 inch or 5/8?
@OFW3 сағат бұрын
The top has extra weld. There wasn’t enough room to put a plate on top and have it go under those mounts. So the 3/4 is doing a lot of the work. The main frame was 5/16 I believe

It’s definitely pricey. I use it all the time. It’s brighter than I expected, with different brightness modes. And the magnet is very strong.

I find things funny. Example not even 2 months ago. Same issue. I was there to look at a different machine. I fixed the 1 almost 3 years ago. They made sections like you did. They failed due the the beating of machine. I made plates way bigger. Wider. Unfortunately it seems like mfg knows those points are a fail point after talking to them.
@OFW3 сағат бұрын
I’m sure they all fail in similar ways.
@Mike-b3v2 сағат бұрын
@ if mfg fixed there issues o guess we would be outta a job. I remember a unit many years ago I fixed that had a different issue. The rep was there that day and told me. The new issue was caused by my fix. And although I understand part of the reason. You fail points shouldn’t be in the main frame section

very heavy things, 18 inches of 1-1/4 square bar holding up 4000 pounds on the far end... that would be 72ton/inch of bar or 46ksi tensile... bar made of... 180ksi head studs melted in with 5/32 E6010 at 165amp 50/50 with some E11018... 1-1/4 inch bar/plate that wont bend till it gets to 120ton per inch square so bending a 12"x12" of that in the center would be 240ton. only old 12.9 bolts in the foundry pot, only engine that works 3208 CAT... everything else quit. right to the 4X4 car "trar" with the 2.5ton transfer case. 1/16th flux core wire would be nice if it runs the same as a 5/32 E6010... tho that 180ksi SAE9254 needs 780Kw/inch^2 to fuse properly "165amp74v/8th inch diameter" 1970's Lincoln AC225 bricked 7 hobby welders... it would drive 1/16 mig wire for hours, -40 outside and everything becomes duty cycle.
