I remember playing season 0 back in the day and the one big thing epic was trying to curb before it got out of hand was teaming, this was before team modes like duos and squads. They straight up put "if you are caught teaming, you will be banned" as a status on the lobby screen

It should be noted that PvP was planned in some capacity since 2014. An unreleased gamemode, Weather the Storm existed around OT5.5 in early 2016 but was scrapped by OT7 though some remnants can be found in OT 6.5 Funny enough, when Fortnite was first concieved in 2011 and the first prototypes in 2012, a PvP mode was not only not planned, but said to never be a thing. The power of hindsight.
