What: Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake/ Afterglow
Where: KZbin
When: ...You push play
Why: Because you can.
Notes: These two songs are first; The Overture of the titled album recording by the same name; "Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake" after the concept album conceived and recorded in 1968 and the second cut on the recording titled; "Afterglow" (of your love). This was to be the last album produced by the original members of the band, Small Faces, leaving us, til this day, wondering what this extremely talented foursome may possibly have attained, if not for this untimely departure.
On the heels of their last and most formidable concept recording, "Small Faces" were just on the edge of (really) breaking into the U.S. Market which they had been trying to do for over a half dozen years now, and they virtually had, and have become known as, "The Best British Band" (never) to hit it big in the U.S. As far as we Yanks were concerned, the only "chart" hit they were ever credited with was, "Itchycoo Park," which being a great song in it's own right, wasn't entirely representative of what they were capable of doing musically wise, as that was... a well kept secret for the British.
However, over in England they were one of the more successful and respected bands of the 60's, as much or more so, than any of the mega-star groups as The Who, The Stones or yes, even those "Mopey Headed Lads" from Liverpool.
The lead singer/songwriter/guitarist Steve Marriott in 1965 basically decided to turn their talents toward American R&B (ironically because they really hadn't any mass exposure here in the states as opposed to the British market).
Steve Marriott, beside his lyrical talents, had a uniquely powerful voice and was also a very aggressive front-man and an exceptional lead guitarist, while the other band members were all too willing and able to match him, with the likes of;
Ronnie Lane/ Bass
Ian McLagan/ Keyboards
Kenney Jones/ Percussion
Long live SF!!!
