I am black, but I love the heck out of Native Americans and their culture. I have visited Oglala reservation and Crazy Horse monument in South Dakota, the Pima Indian reservation in AZ etc. When ever I travel to any state, I also ensure to visit these wonderful people. I only wish they would come out more.

I'm Irish and Scots,and I support this completely. I'm living in Michigan, born and raised here, and I never experienced racism being thrown at Native Americans until I moved away from Detroit. It was bad enough being around racists that maligned Black people, then I realized that racism was much bigger than I imagined.

As a Oglala Lakota man I have the utmost respect for our women It is sickening to see men of all races and women make comments such as they have. No shame in what they say or how they act, our women and the buffalo are beautiful and tunkasilas (gods) for all you non natives, gift to earth. And personally as a Lakota man I know none of you men who gawk at our women would stand face to face with me and survive. All these women are beautiful and strong to me such as out way of life. Ignorance is prevalent in all colors of man and I pray for you all and hope the people who have disrespected these beautiful women never meet one of them face to face. I respect all those with good things to say and to those who don't we are still here you didn't kill us all and we will survive and live as we are meant to.

That is all well and dandy but it seems you are a person who is very disturbed I mean some of the articles you commented on when I Google your name were just spiteful!! There was no need to tell some people who were just giving condolences to families of a tragedy yet you called them out and said how does prayer help them now and other things that just didn't need said!! I mean do you say bless you when someone sneezes, if you do do you still believe that someone's soul is escaping there body? People saying prayers for you or your family is just a courtesy or a way to say I'm sorry it is common to say it now!!

Hailey Hocken I don't know about you, Hailey, but I have not done anything bad to the Lakota, but they have to me. I don't want to hear about the 4 values: generosity, courage, respect and wisdom because they are not truly followed. Any organization gets corrupt and that includes tribes.
@HaileyHocken
@HaileyHocken 9 жыл бұрын
Merlyn Schutterle If you don't want to hear about it, don't watch the video and don't go on my profile, it is as simple as that. I don't need ignorant and rude comments from people who don't want to understand, and from people who no matter how hard you try to make understand, just won't because they don't want to and have closed their minds. And no, I have not personally wronged a Lakota, nor have any EVER wronged me, but I know for sure some of our ancestors have wronged these people and I PERSONALLY CHOSE,fully within my rights, to express how I feel and to unlike the rest of the world "who did nothing to them personally", I have chosen to set out and make it my DUTY as a world citizen to try and start make amends and try to help fix some of the horrific things some of my ancestors DID DO "personally" to them... Things that still haven't been made right to this day. It is people with that mentality "I didn't do anything personally" that contribute to these people never getting the help they fully deserve and given back what is rightfully theirs. And side note, if you do your research they didn't sound like they ever were corrupt to me at all(Although any race, or group of anything, CAN have individuals who don't look out for the best interests of others)- they lived in harmony among themselves, the planet and all living beings on it, (something we could all learn)- that is until the Europeans and such came along and tried to corrupt THEM and destroy something so beautiful but yet something others with closed minds could never understand. They didn't ask for that, they didn't ask to be treated horribly, to have their lands taken, their homes destroyed,etc. And they certainly didn't need to share with the Europeans and everyone who came over , & I think a lot people fail to realize that, and fail to realize that hey, we probably wouldn't be here if they weren't so nice. I think they deserve a lot more respect than what is given to them. I will no longer reply to any more of your comments, so please don't bother commenting anymore, I just don't have time for such ignorance. I am who I am, I believe what I believe and that is evident. Don't bother trying to change people just because they aren't like you. There is no need to spread anger or hate, just don't look at things you don't like, no need to be rude to those who do and no need to be rude towards the kind people who made this and shared their beliefs. AND PS; I was referring to everyone who has not helped the Aboriginals , and instead and over the course of TOO many years has stood by and done nothing. "everything we've done", means anyone who has not helped, anyone who has stood by and done nothing...

The insight and perspectives shared by these women shows the type of philosophies we need to improve life on this planet. At one time, all peoples on the planet were, like these women and many other people from Native cultures, more aware of their connections to other life and the natural world. Unfortunately, those essential ideas have too often been replaced by beliefs that are disconnected from nature and many people suffer because of this.

While my many travels in USA and Canada, where I had so many relatives, I met so many natives of different tribes. I spent a lots of time with them and they gave me so many thoughts about the nature, living with that nature and respect for the animals. One time I hit back from a moose hunt to Lac la Hache, where my relatives were waiting for me and I gave a lift for two natives from Prince George to Williams Lake. As a thank you they invitet me to stay for some days. I took this and one the last day theire medicin man invited me for some time in his house. He told me things in my life he could not know about. Eventually he gave me my totem - the raven. Since that experience I think, that has opened my view wider to understand the relationship between animals, nature and my being on the earth.

The only Book I have read, that is basically written by the Indians themselves is "Bury my heart at wounded knee" to read it and not weep in shame is to have no heart. "Red Cloud" & "Ten Bears" were/are two of the most Honorable men I have ever come across, and I honor them now, there spirit by naming them. My tears fall as I remember our shame.

The biggest crime, or single act of misunderstanding, was when the Europeans tried to make the Great Plains into farm land, fenced and divided into family farms, plots for standing grazing. That standing grazing caused the beginning of the loss of vegetation, that began the desertification of the land. The healing of the people really is about the healing of the land. The lands should be unfenced and continuous from Mexico to Canada with open Prairie for the herds to move in their annual migrations, Spring to the North to calve and Fall to the South to overwinter. The People, the only true People of the Great Plains followed the Bison in their annual migrations, not needing more than horses and tent poles to carry their skins and the people walked the trail year after year. The Plains grasses were hardy with deep roots that grew into the soil and stored carbon and retained water. The ecosystem was in balance and in harmony. No need for great, standing cities with cars and pollution and noise. Only the sound of the wind. We have witnessed a great misunderstanding, really a crime of ignorance and hubris. But now this White man writing these English words knows he is NOT part of the great life of the Plains Peoples and the herds of Bison. He can only hope that one day, more land is returned to it's former use and the People will once again move with the seasons and the bison herds. We can pray and hope and we can stop colonizing places we know nothing about. We can learn and behave with respect and leave the places that have evolved, human societies and animal ecosystems over thousands if not tens of thousands of years. The Europeans don't have such time consciousness. But the People of the Great Plains. do. Time is not measured in years or lifetimes. Time is measured in epochs.

When I was about 10 yrs old I went to the closest thing to a Pow Wow, North Hollywood Ca ever had. We ate Buffalo meat, delicious. I won the raffle and got a big turquoise necklace, which I gave to my mother. I was always envious of anyone who was native American and often dreamt that I was. Later when DNA tests became available I discovered the truth and that I am 15% native, through my father's side in New Mexico. My ancestry is located for centuries around Taos Pueblo. Peace to you and best of success in restoring the Buffalo

That's because you are only looking at them and you only judge from the outside. The people who are commenting here on their beauty and how special the aboriginal native woman is .. they SEE them, inside and out. Any person who puts their people before their own trivial desires, who puts the earth and all that provides for them before themselves .. they are beautiful and they are much more special than "every other woman in this country".

Any one of you speaking that you're better than any other race, you'll be cursed. I am Comanche, Pueblo, Greek, Spaniard, Mexican and Yugoslavian. I am an American, not by choice, but I am. I am who I am. No one can take that from me! If my own nation tries to take me away from me, I will die fighting! If anyone tries to take away who I am, they will lose. The only Almighty is the creator of heaven and earth!

Well, I have a strong desire to go to Bear Butte. In the Black Hills, and I have for quite awhile. My Indian name is Wild Horse, given to me by one of my wives, before she died. I understand the connection to the Buffalo. The one lady made a slight mistake, cows only have bottom teeth, so they too, like the buffalo cant pull the grass out by the roots. But she is right, lots of energy and medicine come from the buffalo. I will go to Rapid creek too someday.

I think that buffalo look for tender grasses rather than many cows. This may be what she is talking about?

All of the negative comments are rude, you don't see us saying things about your way..if you have a way...Respect us and we'll respect you, simple as that.... And what they are saying is that of course god gave us life, but the buffalo are the ones that provided us with food,clothing,shelter,toys... we respect animals, we don't use them as slaves or to gape at them in zoos, animals should be left alone in the wild where they belong, and of course the wars were won, but what counts is that my people survived! I am a full blood, I will stick up for my people.. and I know ill get rude comments, but just remember respect my people, and ill respect yours.

***** : Actually, it's amazing to me how there are Euro Americans (westerners) who seem to emphasize the cultural chasm existing between the European mind and Native American thought and culture. I absolutely agree with you, the Roman Empire was the epitome of empire, and as the cult of Christianity grew in popularity, it was used as a governing tool and assurance of imperialism by the Romans who imposed and codified it into the state religion known as The Universal Christian Church. That was done at a time of declining Roman influence in the 'civilized' world. I view the imposition of a centralized/state sanctioned church in Rome as a way to endorse/impose uniformity and conformity among all the subject or would be subjects of the furthest reaches of the Roman Empire. From what I've read the traditional and cultural roots of the Celtic, Germanic and Nordic Tribes were very much focused and centered around coexistence with nature. The essence of those cultures (survival/livelihood) just as that of Native American culture was threatened by a conditioned view and perception of so called 'civilized' Christians that those who practiced their God given culture and traditions were nothing more than heretical pagans.

Native American code talkers to confuse the hell out of the Japanese or Germans. In the Pacific the Marines used Navajos and in Europe the Army used the Haudenosaunee especially in Airborne units. They spoke code in their own languages.

Not to take away from anything expressed here, but I am sure that cattle do not pull grass out at the roots. Cattle are turned out onto growing wheat, if they would pull it out, the crop would not come in, but it always does. It is sheep that will destroy grass roots. They have to be constantly moved to fresh pasture so they won't destroy the grass. Goats are frequently kept on marginal land because they will not further destroy it, but can eat anything it offers, and actually prefer the weeds. Peace.

@ScriptWorker -True. Buffalo is higher in protein and lower in fat than cattle. This is, of course, true of most wild animals that are/were sources of food. One must, however, be careful about adding extra fat (i.e., unhealthy cooking oil) when cooking buffalo. Since it is so low in fat, some must be added in order to cook it properly. Otherwise, enjoy! Unfortunately, here in the US the price of buffalo meat has risen to where most people can't afford it except as a treat.
