Tree shaker, indeed. Having never been to Belfast myself but having a brother and spouse who were there for an extended amount of time, hearing this song in its original form and having a lineage back to Ireland on both sides of my family this song really. Roughy the tears. May you finally have Peace, Sweet Girl.

This song has always brought tears to my,eyes as a person of Irish ancestry. I never made it to Belfast but my brother was there in the late 70s and my spouse was there in the early 2000s but I did have a brief visit to Northern Ireland and wish I could have made it to the Republic of Ireland. As Americans we can never fully understand but can still feel the pain of our sisters and brothers in Ireland. U2 and Sinead shared that in their music. R.I.P., Daughter of Ireland. You’ve earned your Peace.

Jim Kerr's voice has carried me through more than half my life and here it was classic, but here, too was Sinéad O'Connor and oh, my, that any voice could carry such emotion. Overwhelming, you felt every note she sang. Charlie Burchill's solo was like a balm, soothing after her words. Stunning, this.

A few years ago i had the chance to cross Jim Kerr's path in Brussels it was a magical moment in many ways. I ended up our talking by asking him if he never considered to sing with Sinéad, he replied that he was'nt sure that she liked him. A years after i found this gem and it makes me smile... Rest in peace Sinéad, you've been so brave and inspiring!

To the people critiquing her voice, it's not about perfect tune, vibrato and pitch......it's about the power, raw believe feeling and pure emotion. Power. She's as fantastic as she ever was. Listen again, focus on that intensity, and hopefully you get there. That's what it's about.

@@stephaniebaer1242 And I think many people who live there miss it too, Stephanie. Eight years on since I posted this comment and those villains in the shadows have continued to eat away at the bonds that truly make a culture and a people known to themselves in a way that's a little more divine knowledge than scientific knowledge. I was just at the grocery store not an hour and a half ago. And wouldn't you know it on the way there I had this tune (ie cd) blasting out the car driving down a street here in the States. And if I could've carried it in with me into the store I'd have done it, lol. Very inspiring. Long way of saying many feel the same. Another way of saying remain hopeful, because you never know what tomorrow brings. Reminds me of another great tune (ie In a Big Country) and lyric: "Pull up your head off the floor, come up screaming..." It's good to miss something beautiful. And I think surely, it must mean that the thing we miss is actually calling us and we feel that way because of it? That's a comforting thought: "Come back people! You've been gone a while...". I was posted to Belfast as an 18 year old soldier. It damn near destroyed me even to this day, and I am 50 this year. The conflict was so stupid, a needless waste of many lives, including my friends. I love this song. I imagine the Belfast Child to be a bright butterfly, bringing hope, love and, above all, trust back to the city. She is not quite home, but she is on her way.

I think that's the best version of that song I've ever seen, what a performance. Saw them live at Stonehaven and they were meant to have a break while we went live to Edinburgh for bells via a huge tv screen. Oh no Jim was having none of that, he said "We are Simple Minds and this is the best party in Scotland, they should going live to us" with that they carried on playing hit after hit while fireworks went off in background, it was brilliant. One of the best bands of all time.

Sinead can give new life to any song. Am so happy we got to witness this amazing talent. So sad to see all the greats pass so young. God must have another plan.

Such a magical tune. I'm sure many have put the name of their hometown into the lyrics and shed a tear, God Bless you Sinéad, you always made us sit up and take notice, Slán.

Her voice was never about perfection it was about the raw emotion that some are lucky to never feel about what that individual feels at that time that's what makes a song relatable that's what us Irish are about and she portrayed it every lyric, sound and feeling 😢

Sinead had the best female voice I ever heard. What a privilege to have seen her live a number of times. Irreplaceable. Unique. What a shame she only sang a few lines in this but wow how she sang them. Sorely missed by me and I am certain Jim & Charlie too. A very special performance all round.

As a son of immigrants from belfast and an irish celtic singer i remember hearing Lion and the Cobra for the first time as a 22 year old. Hearing that voice floored me and changed my life and how i would channel my own art forever! Sinead is in the same league as Shane Mcgowan and a select few who drew the map of celtic music in the 20th and beyond!
