Nobody thought her protest of Catholic Church child sex abuse was cowardice. I don't think the world thought it was cowardice but rather the world (not the world but the media and those reading/viewing the media at the time) just didn't know how to deal with it. I can't imagine the outcry/negativity and hatred if that SNL episode happened in the day of social media without any context. At the end of the day, her voice and music should be her legacy, not any perceived controversial actions. One of the best voices ever.

As an Irishman I truly appreciate your sentiment & while we don't hold any animosity towards English ppl for the atrocities their forefathers committed, at the same time we cannot forgive British government when to this day they still fail to give access to documents in relation to the Dublin monaghan bombing & the role of their military in murder of 120 innocent Catholics in 1970's/80's & how they lied for over 50 years about the massacre of 11 Catholics at ballymurphy with only a pathetic apology by Boris a few weeks ago after an inquest directed that non of the ppl Massacres were combatants, yet British gov & military denied parents of those murdered the truth & had their names desecrated as terrorist taking their pain to the grave.

A real Irish artist, like Dolores and many more. This is so heart-wrenching, but so cleverly written about when Ireland was invaded by the British, described in a metaphor as a young couple, the Irish being a young girl who was in a relationship with a British soldier and fell pregnant with him, and he walked away and left her alone heartbroken. " criticised" what did you expect her to do to stay silent about the abuse, btw it's never been just the abuse of boys, it's child sex abuse it wasn't committed only by homosexuals, girls were molested by the Clergy as well. You talk as though you think rape is sex, it's violence. This song breaks my heart as an Englishman. And the reason why it does is because it doesn't strike me as a love song from an abused Irish woman to her hard English boyfriend... ...but from the battered Republic of Ireland to the hard United Kingdom. From Sineaed's country to mine. Our two countries are mostly fond of each other, there's a lot of love between our peoples, but... let's just say that we, the British have fone a fair amount orf bad things to the Irish for many centuries and we, the British, tend to gloss over it or forget it ever happened. Ther Irish don't forget, they just don;t holf onto their hate (for the most part) But for us, it's all bygones y'know, in the past and a little too awkward to dwell on. Even though the consequences of all that ecgoes down even to today.

Even though I'm a straight woman, the first time I saw Sinead on TV, bald and all, I was blown away by how mind blowingly beautiful she was - those eyes. Then her voice floored me. Seemed like a glitch in the universe had made someone so stunning and talented all at once. I couldn't take my eyes and ears off her.

Your music has been a comfort during the tormenting bouts of insanity and your life was an inspiration which I always strove to imitate during my brief moments of lucidity. My heart is beyond broken! You paid your dues and the whole world owes you! The world lost its fiercest warrior today. More a man than any man, a great brother in time of need, and a mother/father of the church that was most sorely needed. Thank you for tearing down Popes that needed to be, and thank you for not bowing before any king! I love you S.O.!

She was known for her outspokenness and her shaved head. She was also a vocal critic of the Catholic Church and of child abuse. She was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2003. She died on July 26, 2023, at the age of 56. O'Connor was a complex and controversial figure, but she was also a talented and influential musician. She will be remembered for her powerful voice, her fearless activism, and her indelible mark on popular culture a frail woman whose voice stopped the titan

Good for you mister Jim Cambell, I do understand your point of you, but be aware that you are not responsible for your father's "duty", irish people have suffered a great deal, and it's still going on, differently, certainly, but it is still there, tensions between two communities. I , for my part, would like to see the whole of Ireland reunited, that's my wish. I've lived long enough in Northern Ireland to have known what life looks like over there, I can never forget, nor forgive the massacres perpetrated on innocent people who were just eager to simply live decently. My only hope is to see Irish people live freely, on their own land, carry on speaking irish gaelic which is originally their language and keep their own culture. Perhaps, one day battles will be over, but I have doubts...

Maybe do not seek to reduce her. She is always kind. A little louder when her or her children's needs are neglected by others. Survival, protection frustration maybe , obviously understandably . Understanding, not judging. Pls try, for her, others... and yourself xx

This is a song which truly shows the light that Sinead shone into the world. To be so compassionate and gentle to someone who was an oppressive and murderous force in Ireland shows you the special type of human being this lady was.
@nealm67642 жыл бұрын
She wrote this song, correct? If so to me this may be the most touching and most important of all of her work. How this is not sung and played in every pub in Ireland, and even some in the UK is beyond me... I am mesmerized by how the song was crafted. On the surface it is a simple song about an Irish Woman singing to her Englishman lover or husband. But it is actually an allegory to the UK's relationship with/domination over Ireland over the centuries. Simply breathtaking when combined with the beautiful music and Sinead's amazing voice. "Why have you never told me you love me? Why have you never said you are sorry?" We love you Sinead and Ireland, and we are sorry. Please find the healing you need and deserve.
