One of the new playstyles for the Ogryn coming in Patch 13 is the Bullgryn, a staple of Ogryn shock troopers in the Imperial Guard since time immemorial. This build is represented by the second branch, splitting the tree down the middle, featuring the Ogryn's most powerful defensive buffs and crowd-control abilities, with such upgrades as...
- The Blitz: Bombs Away!, a familiar upgrade that turns the Big Box of Hurt into a proper bomb that drops a cluster of several frag grenades to disrupt large crowds. Now simply drops its grenades on impact, no matter the target!
- The Ability: Loyal Protector, a shout that staggers and taunts all nearby enemies forcing them to attack only the Ogryn. Can be upgraded to gain cooldown reduction for every taunted enemy you stagger, or to inflict a debuff on all taunted enemies that causes them to take more damage (which is what I used here).
- The Aura: Stay Close!, +20% toughness regeneration speed for you and your allies in coherency. A nice buff to your team's overall sustain.
- The Keystone: Feel No Pain, a passive that gives you ten stacks of 2.5% damage reduction and 2.5% toughness regeneration speed each (so 25% for both stats at max stacks). Stacks are lost when taking damage but replenish over time. Can be upgraded to regain a stack when pushing an enemy, to give an additional 2.5% toughness regen per stack, and to force nearby enemies away and replenish a burst of toughness when losing all stacks. A great defensive buff that turns the Bullgryn from resilient into outright tanky.
... and may other talents and stat nodes besides. I highlighted the ones I used in this Slab Shield tanking build at the start of the video.
Additionally, Bleed was improved to deal more damage to most enemy types and Ogryn's Batter talent (previously known as Blood & Thunder) now properly works as a big damage increase for the Slab Shield. Its high cleave values makes it easy to spread Bleed around to taunted enemies, and with the extra damage they take from the Valuable Distraction upgrade it makes short work of the heretical opposition.
The Grenade Gauntlet also had its Pinpointing Target blessing reworked to provide stacks of bonus damage while aiming, giving the weapon a way to juice up individual, well-aimed shots that it previously lacked. It's a proper Ogryn sniper rifle now that compliments the melee power of this Bullgryn loadout quite well.

What do you personally think might be the best for the Bullgryn? The shovel or the Slab Shield?

The shield has some unique synergies with the taunt that make it defensively more powerful, but the shovel hits harder. Depends on how aggressive you want to be.

@@hankjw_dt The one thing I didn't like about the Shield was the special ability cause of how useless it felt. Kind of just like a sitting duck. And I'm used to the aggressive nature of the Bull Butcher, so I was leaning more towards the Shovel. However if the Shield really does synergize that well I may just go for it. I'll try both out anyways. What unique synergies does it have with the Taunt that aren't as profound in the shovel?

@@Kippynms The special ability has a real purpose now because you can taunt so many enemies that you might get overwhelmed otherwise, and the Attention Seeker talent lets you taunt enemies by blocking their attacks -- including gunfire from shooters. This is obviously best done with a shield.

@@Kippynms the special block the shield has gets perfect block the moment you make the input. Meaning you can block a crusher overhead strike and not lose any stamina

@@hanshaperle6075 ive watched milkandcookiesTW he is playing Gun Lugger not the Tank, i was Talking about the Build itself, cause playing with the slab shield was pretty bad before and now it looks the same

@@HairyManlyManIt looks the same because you can't really see how much more damage the Bleed stacks on heavy attacks are doing. It's much more powerful in this update than before.
