This song was a big hit in 1972 and kind of reminds me of a girl I used to like named Linda, so this one is for her. The song was written by Norman Smith, who was the engineer on all of the EMI studio recordings by The Beatles until 1965. The last Beatles album he recorded was Rubber Soul, and Smith engineered the sound for almost 100 Beatles songs in total.
I recently bought an electone so that I could have more variety in terms of sound in my ukulele videos. I found a nice sound called "slow strings." I hope you like my rendition.
G - G° - Am7 /// //// D7 /// ////
Have [G] I a hope or half a chance
To even ask if I could dance with [Am] you, yoo hoo
Would you [Am7] greet me or po[Cm]litely turn a[G]way [Em7]
Would there [Am] suddenly be [Cm] sunshine
on a [G] cold and rainy [F#7] day?
Oh [Am] babe what would you [D7] say [ Am7 -- D7 ]
For [G] there are you, sweet lollipop
And here am I with such a lot to [Am] say, hey hey
Just to [Am7] walk with you a[Cm]long the milky [G] way [Em7]
To ca[Am7]ress you thru the [Cm] night time
Bring you [G] flowers every [F#7] day
Oh [Am7] babe what would you [D7] say?
[ F# - G ] 'Cause, oh, baby I know [ F# - G ]
I know I could be [D°] so in [Am] love with you
And I [Am7] know that I could [Cm] make you love me [G] too
And if [Am7] I could only [Cm] hear you say you
[G] do oo [G°] oo oo [Am] oo
But any[D7]way [C°] what would you [G] say

Mahalo, Ahnko! This song brings back memories of a special time in my life, too. The uke is one of those Kala ukuleles with the kiwi design. I had this idea of attaching a rod to hold a kazoo, so I drilled a hole in the Kala and fixed the rod in place with a screw and some glue, then painted everything with acrylic paint. Then I added a gecko sticker and covered the whole thing with a little resin.

Thanks, Beeze! Linda and I worked in the same library one summer, and sometimes I walked her home since she lived in the same direction that I did. She was one of the cutest girls I knew!

Thanks, Pascal! The only connection between Hurricane Smith and Gilbert O'Sullivan that I know of is that Smith covered one of O'Sullivan's songs on his album. I would like to hear Gilbert O'Sullivan's version of this song if he recorded it!

Thanks John for this redition! I don't know why but in my memory this song was from Gilbert O'sullivan, may be the same voice in the same period. Merci beaucoup!

Thanks, Cargy! I was worried about combining the ukulele's "natural" tone with the "unnatural" electone, but I thought it turned out pretty nice. I'm looking forward to using the electone more in future vids!

Nice job John. Hey listen can I request that perhaps you include the genre to the songs that you post. Reason is many people email me asking what style or genre is John playing that song in. Some are using BIAB or GB to create background accompanist to play along with. Mahalo

Thanks, Indi! The only problem with my kazookulele is trying to put the ukulele in a case. It's not removeable! I'll use velcro next time. I want to check out Pockets' kazookeylele. I want to see other ideas. : )

Velcro could be a great solution, John! My friend use velcro to attach keyboard to ukulele. So it came handy to go travel :) I wish I as creative as you, because I use clothes hanger to hold the kazoo and the construction not strong enough :')

My kazookulele set-up is pretty solid, but the only problem is having the kazoo in my face when I want to sing, so I have to hold the ukulele in a slightly unnatural position. Anyway, I had fun making it and trying it out in a few videos! : )
