Momotaro is way more easygoing than he gets credit for. He doesn’t seem threatened by Gentaro. He treats him like a child that is just big. The family has come a long way and seems calmer.

Could be. Also, Shabani grew up in a large group at Taranga Zoo. His father was a magnificent silverback but the most aggressive one I’ve seen. Shabani has had more experience with the social hierarchy of a troop and seeing his father keep order. Momotaro grew up alone. He’s always been King everywhere he’s been since he was taken from his mother. It may not even occur to him that he would be anything but the leader.

You notice how these gorillas never interact with each other. They are depressed, and extremely bored, and very unhappy. What a miserable life they have in their steel jungle. It's cruel and the Kyoto Zoo could do better. Just look at this video of gorillas in captivity and notice the huge difference in their demeanor. The main reason (which I understood them to explain) is that Genki had a lot of problems emotionally and mentally with other females in the zoo she came from before she was transferred back to this zoo, and she ended up chewing off part of her fingers because of it. So having other females in the zoo where she is now probably wouldn't be a good idea for her mental stability (unless the other female happened to be her baby...not sure how she would do with that, but she's a good mother, so probably fine I'm thinking).

@@Sheryl777 well her mental stability is importance but the zoo has to maintain it’s gorilla group with the possibility of Gentaro leaving to form a group elsewhere that would leave Momotaro, Genki and Kintaro (who in a few years will become sexually mature and be on the road to becoming a silverback and then he would have to leave)
