It is beyond understanding how that song is so under-reacted to. Why??? It's the finale of the album and the creme de la creme of all things Meat Loaf. This one is also overlooked and it's another blast from Bat Out of Hell, but FCOL is way too epic to be so overlooked.

Can't go wrong with Meatloaf. That is Edgar Winter on sax and Ellen Foley doing background vocals. Bat Out Of Hell is a perfect album front to back and I was the right age at 16 when it was released. There are only seven songs and this is your fourth one so I would go with You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth next (great spoken intro with him and Ellen) followed by Heaven Can Wait and For Crying Out Loud for the finale. Looking forward to it.

Jack Black would be brilliant in a Meat Loaf film. I may have told you guys this before, but I saw ML in concert several times in the late 70s/early 80s. This was when he was still super heavy & had his long hair. We always got seats in the 1st few rows & he would sweat so much that his clothes were drenched & his hair was dripping in sweat. He would shake his head & the sweat literally flew out into the audience! We were young & stupid & loved it!! 😂😂

This song was supposed to be several minutes longer but the producer cut it down to make it radio friendly, even though this one wasn't a single. When the author, Jim Steinman, came into the studio the next day and heard the shorter version, He told the producer to NEVER chop up one of his songs again. It still turned out really good, but I'm pretty sure part of what was cut out was another verse that would be "The Ending" as you described earlier.
@andrewknight4746

“The Producer” as you call him was Todd Rundgren and if he decided the song needed to be cut down he was probably right. He’s a genius. He also played the guitars (Including the motorcycle) and arranged and sang the background vocals.

There seems to be a few things you guys are missing out on here. Jim Steinman wrote most of the Bat Out of Hell Album as a project for a Rock Version Musical of Peter Pan in around 1974. It was always a concept album telling a complete story from start to finish. It was always a Musical. Meatloaf was already an accomplished Musical Actor / Singer, I believe he was in the Broadway hit of the Musical Hair. They came together to produce the 1977 Album version of Bat Out of Hell (and BOoH 2) Which shot them to international stardom. Bat Out of Hell, Heaven Can Wait and this song (originally titled The Formation of the Pack) were three songs that Steinman and Meatloaf took from the original 74 Musical to form the basis of the BoH Album. They went on to produce quite a few more songs together. Meatloaf is the Performer, Steinman is the Writer. - Whilst Jack Black is quite a good Musical Actor in his own right, I don't think he could ever fill the space left by Meatloaf, nor do I think should anyone try. There is no need, as there is so much footage of the legend himself to watch.

Like Amber said, there's a beginning, a middle and an end. That's why you have to listen to the entire album in it's entirety, because the first song starts the story and each consecutive song builds on the entire story the album is presenting. Jim Steinman wrote these songs to portray a story. That's why it's considered a rock opera.

Have you two seen Meat Loaf's last tiktok video, basically saying goodbye to us all? Heart wrenching. I have loved Meat Loaf since I was 5 years old in 1978!!!! I knew every lyric to every song in the album Bat Out of Hell.

"Read 'Em and Weep" is one of my favourite Meat Loaf songs/videos. Barry Manilow covered it and his version went to #1. But Meat Loaf's original is so much more ... Meat Loaf!

The Bat out of Hell album is still the highest selling album in Australia. Not bad for a record released in 1977. Its about 23rd in The USA.

I love this song. That said it is criminal that you haven't reacted to For Crying Out Loud yet. Meat said "the greatest love song ever written and I will fight anyone who says different."

Jack Black and Meat Loaf recorded a duet on Meat's album "Hang cool Teddy Bear". The song is called "Like a rose". If you're interested to hear them sing together this song might be a good choice.

You’re missing some of Meatloafs best work. “I’d do anything for love but I won’t do that” is a feast for the eyes and ears, also “Objects in the rear view mirror may appear closer than they are” they are both like mini movies with stunning musicality. Omg they take you away and take your love of meat to a whole new level. Please please do these 2 songs.

There are several "documentaries" on Meatloaf already. "Behind The Music - Meatloaf", "The Story Of Meatloaf", "Meatloaf, In Search Of Paradise" and "Behind The Music Remastered." He also has a very extensive acting resume, including being a "contestant" on The Celebrity Apprentice
