I grew up listening to him and never considered his music country. Probably because it played on the regular radio station. He was absolutely amazing. Everything he sings is beautiful. Just throw a dart and pick a song. You won’t be disappointed.

@joelliebler5690 no, not country at all. His genre is folk. You can Google and learn that much, but he did have a ton of top ten and #1 hits so he kind of crossed over to pop. I can agree with that 😊

@@lovestreet2675I grew up in that era with my brother having a few Of John’s albums including his best of and he definitely had quite a few country folky songs or just plain country if you know his extensive list of tunes. He also had great folky pop hits as well

@joelliebler5690 not country, but folk influences. Country has a very different sound. You can Google him, he's not country. I grew up with all his albums, memorized them all, and lived in a very 'country' small town, square dancing and all lol. John Denver wasn't country.

John Denver was a great singer-songwriter & actor. He had so many hits in the 70's-80's. Some of his signature songs were "Annie's Song", "Rocky Mountain High", "Poems, Prayers & Promises", "Calypso", "Thank God I'm A Country Boy", "Sunshine On My Shoulders" etc. John appeared in several films & television specials during the 70's-80's, including the 1977 hit "Oh, God!", in which he starred alongside George Burns. Home Free does an awesome version of "Take Me Home, Country Roads".

John Denver was huge in the 70's. His music was inescapable back then and hearing it today takes me back to being a kid listening to the radio with my parents -- "Take Me Home, Country Roads", "Rocky Mountain High", "Sunshine on My Shoulders", "Annie's Song", "Thank God I'm a Country Boy", "Calypso" -- It's easy for me to get nostalgic listening to those songs today. "Take Me Home, Country Roads" comes with the nostalgia baked in. Even when I was a kid I thought the song was already a hundred years old. Denver starred in the 1977 comedy "Oh, God!" as the mild mannered supermarket manager chosen by God, played by George Burns, to spread his message.

He had so many great songs, and a goofy fun personality to go with them. He was a staple on TV and radio for a long time. "Annie's Song" is a beautiful love song, and "Rocky Mountain High" has been adopted as a state song by Colorado. Both are worth a listen. Great reaction. John Denver has always been one of my all time favorite performers. He was my first live concert. I spent maybe about 8 hr's creating a Cassette-Tape with nothing but this song. The reason it took me as long as it did - is because I played and recorded the song back to back so you only heard the song without any of that blank space at the start or end of a song. This was a master piece of recording and editing. At one point I had every single album of his. So many of his songs really hit your Heart-Strings.

John Denver is a fantastic singer and song writer. He also sounds just as good live as he does on the studio versions. If you enjoy a love song listen to 'For You' from his Wildlife Concert which, although I love 'Annie's song', I think is better. He was an environmentalist before most people knew what that was. He died far too young and the world lost a great talent.

Bill Danoff and Taffy Nivert are the co writers and background singers on the album. They presented a partially written song about West Virginia to John Denver and asked for his help on more verses, a chorus and the music so they could sell the song to a country artist. John Denver was so impressed with the idea that he helped complete the song and included it on his Poems, Prayers and Promises album. Although the song is about West Virginia it has as an emotional connection to anyone that has a special place called "home".
