Of course it was because of their women lol, Linda Paul's wife wanted to play in the band and she was allowed but Paul didn't like Yoko so when John said she was going to play in the background he said no. They broke up soon after but while Lennon said they just grew out of the band, McCartney subtly blamed Yoko and she has been blamed for breaking up the band ever since. It didn't start to bother John until hearing it for a couple of months and as everyone knows when you try to correct a lie after you are not believed. Even to this day when a female is coming between a band they are pulling a Yoko, McCartney deserved that song and more.

The reasons for their fall out ran far deeper than "their women" and had more to do with Allen Klein and money (Paul knew he was a crook and that getting into bed with him was a bad idea, John though he knew better and wouldn't listen. I heard an interview with John about this song from the mid 70's post the two of them making up. Firstly he speaks very lovingly about Paul and his music, which was nice to hear. Secondly, he pointed out that whilst Paul was the target of this song on the surface, the anger in the song when he reflected on it was really aimed at himself. He's singing to his own anger and guilt and making Paul the scapegoat. It was a nice bit of self reflection from John!

John said thst becaise he realized he had overreacted to Paul’s initial diss which may not have even actually been about him and Yoko. And he felt bad that he had dissed his old friend so harshly. It may just be one of the best diss tracks ever made. But it might have ended being too harsh for even him. “the only thing you done was yesterday. But since your gone you’re just another day” references two Paul McCartney songs specifically. It wasn’t about John.

"Little Lamb Dragonfly" is also a great song by McCartney. Supposedly the "Little Lamb" part is about a lamb on Paul's farm, but I'm convinced the "Dragonfly" part is about John, if you listen to the lyrics. It's pretty heartbreaking if it's meant for John...it's basically about Paul pining for him to come back. Paul was severely depressed after the breakup of the Beatles and credits his wife Linda for saving him and convincing him he could still write music. It was Paul against all three of the other Beatles...they wanted Allen Klein as their manager, and Paul wanted his in-laws. Paul turned out to be right about Klein, who screwed over John, George and Ringo.

@@MARKBUZZ1 uhhh no. According to may pang's book, George desperately wanted to be percieved the way Paul was perceived by John. Paul was seen as an equal whilst he was seen as a kid. John was aware of this (he said it himself in that infamous playboy interview) so when they broke up he kind of took advantage of it. "Oh you can replace Paul if you just take my side!" so George did, hence his involvement in this song only to get betrayed later. They had a huge fight later where George was so furious over the fact that John was never there for him, in his own words "I did everything you told me to do but you still weren't there for me!". Poor dude even went along with Klein because of John. I don't think George had much negative feelings towards those two but it was blatantly obvious that he was.. well quite jelly of Paul. Not because he thought he was more talented but because he was an "equal". This bitterness didn't go away, he himself said that he would love to join a band with John as long as Paul isn't in it.

Yes, John & Paul patched it up. They almost reunited on Saturday Night Live (American TV show) when the shows producer made an on air offer of $3000 for a Beatles reunion. Paul was visiting John at The Dakota and they were watching the show. At the time, a billionaire had just offered the Group 50 million for 1 concert. You must react to The Beatles' nineties reunion single "Free as a Bird". John was gone obviously, but they built the track around his home cassette recording with the help of Jeff Lynne.

It wouldn't've been the first time John took his own meaning from Paul's lyrics, as when Paul introduced the song "Hey Jude" to him, and he thought it was about Paul giving his blessing to John's new relationship with Yoko Ono. Bottom line, John responded to what he _thought_ Paul was saying to him in BSoMC. One of the last songs that John dissed of Paul’s was Listen to What the Man Said. He called it another one of Paul’s stupid love songs. Which influenced Paul to write Silly Love Songs which John praised. And it became Paul’s 2nd biggest hit here in the states next to Hey Jude. How bad could their row have been to generate this? It's because John loved Paul so very very deeply, and did to till his death, that the explosion that ended the Beatles, which John saw as a betrayal, was so very painful to him. Sometime before he died he said, "There have been two great loves in my life: Yoko Ono and Paul McCartney." So when that bond was broken he felt it very, very deeply. I'm so glad they were able to reconcile. John's last words to Paul were, "Think of me from time to time, old friend."

John certainly doesn’t come off great here in my opinion. I agree that I love the music but here’s how I see it: John criticizes Paul’s solo album for not saying anything meaningful or being personal and being “Muzak”, Paul releases the song Too Many People where he actually says how he feels about John and Yoko and makes a personal comment. John is offended that Paul spoke his mind in a song and throws a hissy-fit set to really cool, funky music, insulting Paul directly. Not very cool by John, does he want Paul to be personal, or only be personal when it doesn’t criticize John? It feels very hypocritical to me.

I'm surprised that Paul survived his being cut to pieces by John in this. Like it or not, John spoke his mind but he and Paul did reconcile before his death. All I know is that those two were made for each other and it's the world's loss that they didn't feel they could collaborate anymore. Lastly, I gotta say that John's first two solo albums, Plastic Ono Band and Imagine, were two of the most sublime things ever recorded. Every track on both of them is worth your time, brother.

He kind of didn't survive, in that Lennon's war against him convinced a lot of people that Paul was shallow and lame. A lot of Paul's later albums were fantastic, and has never stopped experimenting and pushing forward, no matter how many people made fun of him. In any case, totally agree that they were made for each other. I don't think we have a word in the english language for the kind of connection they had.

I saw the same interview. He didn't say it wasn't about Paul, as I saw one comment say. But he did say he realized the anger he felt was really about himself. "It was about me". Also, its been said that Too Many People was about John and Yoko, it wasn't. But John was paranoid (which he also admitted in later interviews) and thought it was about him. I've also heard that he thought Get Back was Paul's way of saying Yoko should go back where she came from. Now, after watching the Get Back Documentary, we see how Paul pulled the song out of thin air. They also talk about how the song was in response to their repulsion (for lack of a better word and not having the time to go through the documentary to see how they phrased it) for how the government in England was protesting the influx of foreigners in England. Certainly not Paul talking about Yoko.

That view kinda manifests itself in one little brief scene early in the movie "Yellow Submarine", and the later tragic video they were shooting in a studio setting where Paul scolds George on something seemingly pointless and the painful look in Lennon's eyes as he stared at the camera, possibly wishing he or the camera were not there! Paul's a great, talented, work-a-holic guy no doubt, but perhaps he let his fame go to head a little too much. And they were probably getting tired of each other as they had all gone through a lot being The Beatles! ✌️😎

In 1968 I believe there was a rumour in the music press going around that Paul was actually physically dead. That's why they stopped touring. That the Beatles started having a stand in for him instead on the album covers. People looked for clues on their album covers saying he was in bare feet in a suit on the Abbey Road album cover which meant he was about to be put in a coffin and John was dressed as the priest. The number plate on the Vdub is 28IF ( the age he would have lived to) So all those freaks in the lyric who thought you were dead were right is who John was referring to that rumour. I've been listening to the Beatles for about 30 years and it's beautiful seeing people react to them the first time because it reminds me the first time I heard it..but at the same time you know the beauty of what's about to come up with each song..Thanks for sharing This has always been one of my Favourite Lennon songs despite the lyrics. Love his voice and bluesness of it. It's on the same album with Imagine though. Classic John. One song abut love and peace and another about saying Paul was dead.

Believe it or not, there are still people out there who absolutely believe Paul died and they replaced him with someone else. Part of their theory was that the fake Paul had to have some plastic surgery to make the transition more realistic. Then they stopped touring. Of course. Paul's family and the impostors family went along with this, as well as all their friends. And obviously the government had to go along with this. According to their theory, he broke up with Jane Asher, or some say she broke up with him because she knew he was a different guy. Never mind the fact that she broke their engagement because she caught him in bed with another woman. Which seems much more plausible to me. But Linda wouldn't know; that's why he chose her. It just goes on and on. Of course they found someone who looked enough like Paul that the surgeon even got that little tag on his upper lip. And finding a left handed bass player was no problem. Lord, give me strength.

Paul had "Too Many People", "Dear Friend", "Some People Never Know" which had the line "some people can sleep at nightime knowing that love is alive", and "3 legs". The Ram album also had a photo on the back cover with two Beetles f%cking. George played on both "Crippled" and "Sleep". George's songs "Isn't it a Pity" and "Run of the Mill" are both aimed at Paul, as well as Ringo's "Back Off Boogaloo" (again with George).

I'm really glad you're getting these Beatles reactions released and all your work wasn't for nothing. These are all great songs. The public battle of words didn't take up a lot of their time, they made up after a bit, even jammed when Lennon was making his "Rock 'n' Roll" album with Phil Spector (before Phil went paranoid and ran off with the tapes, that's another story). It's been said Yoko liked to keep John & Paul apart but there was 1 time they were watching SNL together and the producer offered $3,000 for the Beatles to reunite to play 3 songs, a ludicrously small amount of money. Being in NYC at the time John & Paul talked of showing up to collect it but they were too tired, what a lost opportunity. No Lennone wasn't the subtle type, he was clever and couldn't repress his ingenuity. Call the burn unit, Linda.

John's " savageness " in the lyrics proves how much he loved Paul. If he didn't care about Paul it would have been maybe just an annoyance. But the hurt we perceive as being caused by someone we love is great. John attacked Paul right where he knew it would cause Paul the most pain, by putting down Paul's music. Paul had sued the other Beatles because they decided that Alan Klein would be their new manager or whatever, and Paul didn't want that. He was later proved correct. So George playing on John's song was because George was hurt also. The power of forgiveness on all sides is difficult but so rewarding. You're right Harri, the music is so fabulous, I wish John had later written new lyrics for the music.

John Leader said I don't remember the comment but he did feel bad about it. Especially after they were so mad at him for suing them. And then coming to find out that that was the only way that Paul because he took the time to seek much legal advice. Could save the Beatles fortune. They still lost several million dollars to Allen Klein. But for God sake why didn't they do a song to retract this it's just a horrible horrible horrible way to talk about someone that taught you how to play guitar. It actually started with John's Rolling Stones interview. Which he later retracted, stating he lied because he was angry. But the editor was so invested in John's viewpoint that she made their critic change his positive review of Paul's first album to a negative one. And the rest of the critics and reviewers kind of fell into step.

Paul betrayed John. When John quit the Beatles and made it definite, Paul didn't want him to say anything about it yet, wanting John to play along as the last Beatles album was released. But Paul hastily made an album, and while he launched it, announced the Beatles were over, acting as he was the the one ending the Beatles. John was furious. Paul didn't consult with any other the former Beatles before doing that, which was against the norm for the group. Then he tried to make John look like that bad guy in all of his interviews. And that was just the beginning. And that's why there was so much animosity, the betrayal.

Perhaps the original diss track. John could drop SAVAGE bars when he wanted to. For clarification: John was not referring to Paul's "creative death" when he said "Those freaks was right when they said...you was dead". He was actually referring to the "Paul Is Dead" conspiracy theory, which the Beatles made fun of in their final years (allegedly, 1n 1966, Paul had a fight with the rest of the group, and stormed off and got in an early morning car accident in which he was "killed". The Beatles allegedly covered his death by putting in a body double named William Campbell, who had surgery to look just like Paul, and took his place. The Beatles had fun over the next few years, leaving mocking "clues" about "Paul's Death" that are still legendary today). Also, one diss you missed was, "The sound you make is MUZAK to my ears". "Muzak" refers to that music you hear when you're in an elevator or some public space, I.E. sanitized, safe, harmless rubbish (referred to far and wide as "Elevator Music". He's saying Paul can only make music like you'd hear in your local grocery store or public bus station.

Paul was offended and that was actually the last time they ever saw each other. John told this story in one of his last interviews in 1980.
