Wanna know how I ended up here: Middle of the Road's "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" was in the backgound of a vieo and I recognised that song from signing it withmy mum in the car when I was like 6! I swear I only heard it 2 or 3 times, never since then in the 70s. As soon as I heard it, had the same reaction as you. Then I started seacrhing moe of their songs, I recognise "Soley Soley" from my childhood as well! Music is an amazing thing.

A really Grrreat ! early 70's happy pop song & a very competent band with Sally Carr vocals. What a great good looker Sally was back then, and a super modern image very distinctive clothes, hot pants & knee boots,( sometimes white & sometimes black) a look that maybe 4- or 5 yrs later Agnetha of ABBA was an absolute dead ringer, white boots as well. Check it out ! blonde hair parted in middle..its all there .

Same as your case, I was five years old in 1972, and it was just everywhere. Not the original but a French re-recording (a common thing then in Europe). It was imprinted in me forever, fifty years later it still rings there along with July Morning and Hop-Heyhop.

Hi Harri, I think it's great that you drew attention to this song by MIDDLE OF THE ROAD in your channel. You in the USA... "Soley Soley" is now 50 years old, and even today a beautiful song that brings joy. I've been a fan of MIDDLE OF THE ROAD since I was a teenager. Their happy music fit the attitude of life in the 1970s. It was a nice, carefree time, especially with how crazy this world is in the digital age. MIDDLE OF THE ROAD were among the most successful bands in the 70s, selling millions of singles. Back then you had to pay 5 D-Mark (in Germany). That was a lot of money for the fans. An LP cost 20 D-Mark, today 10 to 15 Euro. To be successful, singers and bands had to do much more. Today, "stars" are pushed on the Internet without having to work anything for it. In the charts was only successful when fans bought the records and singles. MIDDLE OF THE ROAD was a guarantee for good mood and party in their time. It is still like that today. But the band had a great repertoire, a "B-side", which is unfortunately completely underestimated. Great songs on the B-sides of the singles and their LP's. Sentimental and with soulful depth. Titles like "On This Land", "Eve", See The Sky", "Union Silver", Universal Man", Gone's The Time", Winter's Sun", The Sun in your Skin", "Lingering Sounds" or "You Pays Yer Money And You Takes Yer Chance". Best regards from Germany - Joe Yamaha - Biker from Black Forest

I was 12 years old when this song blasted onto the airwaves. Cant escape it even if you tried. Turn on the radio and there it was, switched channels and the DJ would announce …’ and the next song is…. ‘ Go down to the nearest record store and Soley Soley would be coming from the speakers. Get onto the school bus and guess what the driver is playing on her 8 track. I had a huge crush on Sally Carr then. Still do. She was my favourite girl. Loved her voice.

A veritable, 'blast from the past!' It's amazing how some songs can suddenly pop into your head and you try desperately to find out what the song is and who it's by. I've had a few of those in my time. A lot of them are less than well-known songs of their time and, other than a few words/lyrics and part of a tune, you haven't a clue about them. Then, one day, (usually when you're not even looking), you come across something that strikes a chord and you think, 'hang on...', and sure enough, it's one of those long-lost songs you thought you'd never hear again. It's Top of the Pops, so the band will be miming. The drummer is probably scared of hitting a drum and actually making a sound! 🤣

Personally i always liked them, but it was considered to be a sign of bad taste if you liked them early seventies, it wasnt beat, not rock not hippie, it was just commercial feel good movie wich in those days was a no go. Sacramento, Chirpy chirpy cheep cheep, tweedle dee tweedle dum where other hits they had next to Soley soley.
