bby the way: the "grafics" you see in this movie are not CGI (apart from a few later added scenes). these are actual camera shots of models. computers back then where not even close to powerful enough to make CGI in ways we know today. i can really recommend to watch the making of this movie. its eye opening about how they managed to make it look like it did. it was hell of an effort the special effects team did here.

"The Force will be with you, always." Fun Fact: The first movie to make over $300 million domestic box office. It was also the first movie to cross $500 million worldwide in its initial release. Action Star Fact: Stunt doubles were not used for the scene where Luke and Leia swing to safety in the Death Star. Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher performed the stunt, shooting it in just one take. CGI Over Practical Fact: All the CGI was added in the late 90s and NOT part of the original release. I don't mind the changes, except for originally Han Solo (Harrison Ford) shot Greedo (Paul Blake) before the bounty hunter could do anything. Gun Enthusiast Fact: The weapons the stormtroopers used were essentially the Sterling L2A3 9mm SMG (sub-machine gun), a military weapon developed in the late 1940s in the U.K. and adopted by the British and Canadian Armies in the 1950s. The curved left entry side mounted magazine was removed, and that was as much as it was modified for the movie. The longer sandtrooper weapon was the MG-34 machine gun from Germany. Location Location Fact: The Tatooine scenes were filmed in Tunisia. There is a town in Tunisia's rural south named Tataouine (Berber for "eyes") and George Lucas liked the name so much, he adopted it for Luke Skywalker's (Mark Hamill) home world. Some of the interiors and the courtyard of Luke's house were filmed in a hotel in Matmata, Tunisia. One can visit this two-star hotel and see some pictures and the painted ceiling of what was used for the Lars' dining room. When Luke goes out of the farm, he appears in a flat deserted area, while the reality, when you get out of the hotel, there are a lot of other houses, small stone hills, and a lot of prickly pear cacti (a variety very common in Tunisia). The skeleton that C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) passes belongs to a Tatooine creature called a Greater Krayt Dragon. This artificial skeleton was left in the Tunisian desert after filming and still lies there. During filming of Star Wars: Episode II - Attack Of The Clones (2002), the site was visited by the crew once more and the skeleton was still there.

There are subtitles for the alien dialogue, so be sure to turn them on for the rest of the movies. Jabba was basically saying that he's giving Han one more chance to pay back the money Han owes him, or else Jabba is going to send bounty hunters to get him.

At 2 points during the filming of this movie actor Kenny Baker (R2D2) nearly died on 2 separate occasions due to wiring inside the dome of the R2 outfit and then in an incident that was even worse where the crew in a act of total negligence forgot he was inside the outfit and left him inside of it for several hours. He joked about it later at conventions and in interviews but at the time it was almost enough to make him not come back for the later episodes.

I love how much we get "oh that's cool" from reactors right before "what a piece of junk!" on the Falcon. It looks cool to us, but in universe Luke, from Hans hype is expecting like a Ferrari and gets an old rusted out cargo van. Also, the stormtrooper aim thing started because they were ordered to miss during the escape. But since the heroes have plot armor the stormtroopers could never have good aim, and that was the only time that excuse would work, so there's no reason for them having no aim later. It just became a thing that even later in universe stormtroopers are known as terrible shots.

The model used in the filming of ANH of the "Devastator" Vader's Star Destroyer at the opening of ANH was over 4 feet long. The model of the "Executor" Vader's SSD seen in ESB and ROTJ that was just over 9 feet long.

The language spoken by the Jawa is actually a real language. They used sentences from the Zulu language and just speed them up to make it sound alien.

The skeleton was of a Krayt dragon. In a episode of the Mandalorian a live Krayt possess a very real threat to the main characters at one point.

I was 13 years old in 1977 when I saw Star Wars in the Movie Theatre, It was not renumbered Episode IV until 1980 when Episode V The Empire Strikes Back was released, George Lucas did not know if he would be allowed to make more Star War Movies. Great reaction man, hope to continue watching, best way to watch the films is definitely in theatrical release order for the first time viewing. Start with this one then move onto Episode V, at least try to watch the original six👍🏼. Later you can watch the films in any order to wish as you already have the knowledge of the films, so other methods work well for rewatches; but seriously don’t let anybody tell you any different, the story flows the best that way, and it is how the director and crew intended the audience to watch it. I believe it's in episode 8 where Chewie finally gets his medal for his role in the destruction of the death star. When it comes to the big medals sometimes it takes a very long time to be presented to the person who earned them. In the US our highest award is the medal of honor and there are some Vietnam veterans that in the past 10 years have finally been presented with the medal for their acts of heroism. Normally in this situation if a medal is to be given to a flight crew such as the DFC which is a medal earned for acts of bravery while in the air it will be presented to both the Aviator and RIO/WSO (Radar Intercept officer/ Weapons System officer) at the same time. In the USN those who are RIO's/WSO's are also called Naval Flight Officers and go to a completely separate school from Aviators where they will learn the various radar and weapons systems for aircraft like the F-14 Tomcat before 2006 or the F/A-18F today. They also wear a different set of gold wings than what the Naval Aviators wear on their uniform having two anchors crossed behind the shield while a USN/USMC aviator has one anchor on their wings of gold.

A lot of people make the joke that Stormtroopers cannot hit the broad side of a barn standing 5 feet away from it but the opening of ANH shows just how dangerous and accurate they actually are when they are not firing on a character protected by plot armor or under orders to miss on purpose as they were on the death star. Imperial Stormtroopers actually have better accuracy than real life SWAT officers and most of our military forces.

Welcome to the Star Wars fandom, Robinarc! If you are going to watch the Star Wars movies, I highly suggest that you watch them in this order (after this movie): Episode V: Empire Strikes Back Episode I: The Phantom Menace Episode II: Attack Of The Clones Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith (Stand Alone) Rogue One Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi And from there, watch whatever you want. Honestly, the Sequel Trilogy (and Solo movie) sucks more than the Prequel Trilogy and I refuse to watch reactions to them. Again, this is just a suggestion. You can take my suggestion or not. However you will greatly appreciate the order that I suggested afterwards. The plot twist in Episode III is more impactful and Episode VI makes a more satisfactory emotional ending, because it is the end of the story. This also solves the prequel paradox by making all these movies just one story. I can't say anything else or I would go into spoilers. Now some other people will suggest the Release Order. I can't stop you from watching that order, but the "because we watch them in that order" is a super weak reason. My "Satisfying Order" serves a narrative purpose (something the gatekeeping Release Order purists can't say) and you'll be watching all of movies anyway. If I could blank my mind and watch these movies fresh, that's the order I would love to watch them in.

I can understand Release order and I can understand Chronological, but I can't see any reason behind Machete/"Satisfying". You're basically interrupting a smoothly flowing narrative arc to jump into prequels and in terms of plot twists, you just trade one for another.

Jaba and Greedo speak Huttese. In Empire strikes back I don't think there are any alien languages at all, but for Return of the Jedi you need to have subtitles on to follow because there are lots of alien languages, mostly Huttese spoken.

The funniest part of the movie was cut out in this video. The scene where the stormtrooper extra did not duck down when entering into the control room and bumps his head off the door. That scene was almost cut but everyone found it too funny not to include it in the movie.

The ending of Rogue one which came out in 2016 explains exactly why Vader knew for a fact Leia was 100% full of crap right from the start and was a part of the rebel Alliance though technically although it's not considered as canon the video game the force unleashed also revealed that fact as well before the Rogue One movie came out.

If you watch TOPGUN: Mavrick you'll see a lot of similarities between the canyon run they have to make at the end of that movie to the ending of ANH. Even the target size matches in both movies.
