Thx for putting in that much work. This has totally convinced me not to attempt a spindle repair :-)

Yep if it was not for the cost of a new one I would not have either!even the bearings are expensive here in the UK. Having said that it has been faultless now fro a good six months with almost daily use. Cheers!

Hi Gary, You and me are both surprised its still going. The router is currently in bits in my garage awaiting its new home in my not yet started new workshop. prior to that it was worked every day in my business for around 18months before I retired. Cheers

Brilliant! But if had, which I do not have these tools at my disposal - I'd still resort to buy a brand new spindle. You'd probably do the same if you could turn back the time. I do admire your skill Sir.

Thanks Jansb, a good point, the reasons were I did not want to spend the money, I needed the machine for a paid job so had very little time to fix it. We also live in a disposable economy and I like to fix stuff where I can. having said that a better spindle with power drawbar would be a great addition to the router maybe next time. Cheers

@@CazualHaze Yes Sir; your preference to save is one of mine but held me to become a horder of many things I can not part with - hence my comment.

Did you just try to unscrew it the wrong direction, twice? On both ends?

Almost certainly cant remember for sure. There is very little detail on these online I asked the supplier (in China) and got back a general view only. I think you are on your own with these, like so many Chinese machines.

Watching a video of a repair company changing the bearings - at 22:01 looks like you were trying do undo it the normal lefty-loosy, they are actually reverse thread so you were infact tightening it (23:45 you can see the thread is indeed reverse) more until the cap head snapped off.

lol, i was shouting at the monitor at that point, and why did he make the pin wrench with through holes for the pins....doh.

You did not mention while removing bearing that they must go back the same way they are removed, taking note of the "V" markings on the outer shells. It depends on the application which way the "v" arrows point.
@CazualHaze

Thanks for the comment you are of course right. The router has been fine since I fixed the leak I dont remember seeing the markings but you can still just take a look at the bearings to determine which way the pressure needs to be applied. Cheers

@@CazualHaze I worked for Boeing where bearing arrangement was critical for dynamic loading, having said that if you have no marking on the shell it is not important. I watched your video to understand how to dismantle and the tooling you made as I am about to purchase the same motor and want to be one jump ahead when it comes to repair. One last thing, the "V" arrows were the only way of knowing the order of assembly as they looked identical inside according to the drawings. Thanks.Phil

Hi Corsairflag, Yep I dont remember any markings on the shells. I think my motor was just badly assembled the O-rings sealing the water jacket looked pretty crappy and one was slightly off-centre. Since the repair its been fine still working. I did want to replace the bearings as I was not convinced water had not got in. After along search I could not find any supplier in the UK only from China. So I decided to fit the old bearings back in. Got away with it so far!!! Cheers

@@CazualHaze Nah it was a joke, given the amount of effort you put in. I do have a blocked water cooling jacket thought and have cleared it out with CLR solution.

This is just shocking hypocrisy. Implying that Chinese design and workmanship is shoddy whilst machining replacement parts with measurement tolerances my 11 year old son would find unacceptable.

Hi thanks for the comment There are fantastic products made in China including the iPad I am writing this on. However the little cnc router and all the other ten or so machines I have either imported or bought locally have all had faults straight out of the gate. Must be unlucky! In fact this machine had no earth from the control cabinet to the bed and as a result was painful to touch and possibly lethal if you had a heart problem. The repair was done quickly and not to standard part of my income comes from parts I make on this router . As the orders piled up I had to get it back to work.
