It's been several weeks since we've had a garden devotional. Today, I'm being very transparent about walking through trials and making the choice to command our soul to bless the Lord.
Bless the Lord, O my soul;
And all that is within me, bless His holy name!
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits:
Who forgives all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases,
Who redeems your life from destruction,
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
Psalm 103:1-4

You are not a believer, yet. I remember when I was exposed to the gospel for the first time. I had no idea what they were talking about. So one night as I sat alone in my car, I asked the question out loud, "Are You real?" And immediately my heart was filled and leaping with JOY. I was overwhelmed and crying! He heard me! And left no doubt about His existence in this world, and that His Son Jesus hung on the cross for my sins, He died in my place, He was buried and He rose again on the third day, just as He said! The Holy Spirit lives in me and He teaches, guides and comforts me until I am called home to Heaven. You can put your trust in Him. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him, should not perish but have ever lasting life. It's true, God loves you.

I’m probably not a full minute into this video yet, but I had to pause it and say, don’t ever be intimidated to talk about Jesus on your vlog. He isn’t separate from your farm, business, or anything else in your life. Without Him you might not have any of that. So I encourage you to continue to share your devotionals on this vlog. No need to do it on a separate vlog. God bless!

I lost my Son in 2014. We had always wanted to move south, from central Illinois. But we were unable to because I needed help from my family to help care for Jason. He died unexpectedly and I was crushed. I went through a period where I thought Jesus had left me. I need to hear that other people to express their love for God to help remind me that he does Love and carry me! My Son was such a gift from him and I got to hold him close to me for the 29 years I had him. Jason was disabled and lived with us for all his life. I had come to the decision to turn him over to the only one who could love him more than even I could! When I did that I was able to pick up the pieces of me and move on with my life. So here we are, just my Husband and I in East Tennessee! We are a little older but are trying to get setup to start growing some of our own food! God Bless you!

God love you both. My children are healthy but don't love Jesus or God. It rips my heart and I have had to turn them over to my Lord who loves them more than I do and wants them saved also. I would like to grow some food to show them and my grand kids, and myself, God's rhythm in life and His feasts. May God's blessings bloom and rush into your days in this new phase in your lives.

It’s ok to ask God why? My sister was murdered in a grocery store, leaving behind 2 small daughters, and I had to ask why . That was over 20 years ago . If I could tell you how wonderful her two daughters turned out because of love and faithfulness to God you would be amazed. God didn’t kill my sister, he was there to receive her. I know I will see her again, and that I’m thankful for . ❤️✝️

Jess, continue to use your platform. Jesus is a gentleman, He does not force anyone by a gun or sword to believe in Him. When you are saved you cannot separate your life from Jesus. You are crucified with Christ and it is He who lives in you. (Paraphrased) Gal 2:20. Maybe those who do not believe, yet continue watching your channel, will one day see God's love through you and your family.

Blessed be and keep sharing sister.

You put "devotional" in the title. It's pretty clear that your video will be faith related. If they don't want to watch those, they can just skip it. I do the same thing on my channel ;) I make no apologies for my beliefs, values, etc. I have a couple things I tend to not talk about, but for the most part, I have all my cards on the table. Otherwise I don't feel I am being authentic. We don't have to all agree. We don't have to all be the same. I wrote an article about that on my website - how God doesn't make bricks, He is a rock collector. He designed and made us all different and unique. We were never meant to be xerox copies of one another.

Thanks Cosmo Cornbread. That is exactly what I felt about the video as a whole...Remember that he could have destroyed us all and then we would not be here, and yes, sometimes, honestly I wonder why we have to persevere through all these EARTH things...but this testimony is a PERFECT example and REMINDER that God meets us where we are no matter what....And yes, if I believed that we all had to be the same,,,I would have lost hope a LONG time ago. I am now more thankful than ever these days that God also made me different for a great reason, as all His plans have a GREATER PURPOSE! Even the most inconceivable of all things...And Bless you again Roots and Refuge for that testimony, that even when we are "laid bare", and "all...Cards on the table, " that He will make sense of it all, and ALWAYS bring mercy.

''devotional'' in the title. Seriously. There is no need for another channel- people need to just pay attention before they click! I am pagan, and I totally still appreciate your channel- SO MUCH! Your video- I believe it was ''waiting for the fulfillment of your farm''' where you talked about sitting in the bookstore with a pig book in your lap and crying because you thought it would never happen. It honestly resonated with me so deeply. I straight up started bawling because that is where I am at right now. Your video brought me so much comfort. You keep doing you. God is part of your life- other than your devotionals I do not feel like you preach at ALL. And most of the devotionals I still don't feel like you do. It's honestly silly for someone to get so bent out of shape when it's in the freaking title.

I have a slightly different faith, but I like your devotionals. I agree that when faith is such a big part of your life you can’t keep it separate! I realized this in college. I’m an art student and many art students tend to be agnostic or atheist (I think mainly because that’s what the cool people are, but whatever). I sat next to an atheist girl in a graphic design class and she told me once that I talk a lot about my religion. I told her that it was because it is a huge part of who I am, and I couldn’t not talk about it. Don’t hide who you are ❤️

Hi Jess, I am normally a very private person but your loss recently and this revelation made me want to reach out to you publically. I had no idea about the family and the kids, that broke my heart. If you remember I had suffered so much loss in my life and it tore my relationship with god that took decades to fix. I'm fighting PTSD right now and am having a horrible weekend. About 2 hours ago I had a conversation with my wife explaining how I Was feeling and then your video appeared on our list. We watched it while eating dinner, both Susan and I love your videos and journey, you guys rock. I have to admit I am finally finally feeling a little better about life, just from listening to you. It honestly helped me as did your other video if you recal my letter. This weekend I was at a point where I dont see a future with PTSD, its never going to end sort of thing. I guess I'm telling this to you in public, because I am one person who you inspired from your words, there must be many more. God is part of you and you shouldnt have to hide that. If people don't like that aspect they have the free will to not watch the video, god did give us free will afterall. How many others feel as inspired and how many people would lose out if you bowed to the few who don't like what you say. I think thats a big problem in America right now, people afraid to say what they actually feel. Please please keep doing these. I don't think I found your video right when I needed it out of coincidence. I'm having a hard time putting sentences together right now so will just stop. But I want to end by saying thank you for you and your family and may god bless you guys and remain strong in your faith and be given the strength to go through all the trials of life. I wonder if its not how we handle the pain of life that is the meaning of life for us on our journey. Brian

Your beautiful response brought me to tears. Our Creator God made us all to need each other. I pray you continue to find peace and refuge through videos like Jess's and can ask God for His help along the way. PTSD is not an easy road - my two daughters battle it daily - but God's grace gets them through and they are becoming stronger each day. I adore your videos and am glad you share your beliefs! Loss is never easy and God has a bigger plan, we just need to stop and make sure we see the beauty that is around! My children lost their dear childhood friend to cancer and it was the hardest thing we have ever been a part of. As a mother, I couldn’t shake my fear of that reality. I was so caught up with fear, that I forgot to stop and look at the beauty around. It took me a little while to regain my devotion/beliefs, but I was able to come through. Everyday I take a spiritual walk and make sure that I stop and appreciate all of God’s glory!

Jess, I must tell you that this is the most beautiful explanation of the entire process of how we, as believers, walk out this life we're given and learn how to become disciples of Jesus, step-by-step learning to become more like Jesus even though we can't fully be like Him. You have put the entire Christian life in a few minutes. There's more meat here in one place than I have seen in our churches in my 59 years on this Earth. My only wish is that somehow you could put this on a CD so we could give these out to everyone we love. Until then, I am sending this to every friend and family member I have. One thing that I have done since my kids were small is to pray God send His angels to go with them (and all family), protect and guide them, whenever they leave the house. When we leave to go on trips, or even into town, we pray before leaving the driveway for angelic protection for the trip, the car, the house and property and people we're going to and left behind. My youngest is high functioning autistic and praying for her before school always helped her. Just thought I'd share. Maybe it will help. We pray when storms come our direction and have literally seen miracles. I love you girl! Thank you and I bless you and every one in your family and circle of friends.

I've laid here and learned so much and when my spirit gets a low and God send someone like you to pick my spirits back up thank you for what you said.. I know that in God's perfect time that HE'S going to totally heal me and I hope God will allow me to go back out on the highways again carrying the message of recovery to those who's lives are stuck in addictions. Like I was doing before the wreck... I used to battle the whys and the what ifs but I don't care anymore about them... God gave me a timeout to build my spirit and that's what you did tonight God use you to speak to me... I love you kiddo thank you and keep putting Jesus first in everything... BBE 👍 👍🤗 🤗

Bragg family, I was the same way. I saw how corrupted organized religions had become, and I wanted no part of it. Until my then 2 year old daughter started talking about God and leading us in prayer! No one taught her to do that. And I realized that I had strayed away from my own faith. I still believed, but I wasn't living it. And I realized that I had neglected to teach my children about God. I needed to be around like-minded individuals to give myself accountability. So I started to go to church again. I tried MANY different ones until I found one that I could actually feel God's presence in. I don't agree with every detail they preach, but that's ok for me, because I found peace there.

A sacrifice of praise and worship, when we are going through heart wrenching times, is a key that opens the door to the depths of our soul allowing the Lord to pour forth His blessings into our soul! Some of those blessings need to incubate and stretch us before we see the fullness. About 12 years ago after acquiring Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from domestic violence, my pastor said something, after observing my challenges, I will never forget, his name is Wayne Taylor; "There is no greater witness than a Christian who suffers with grace." That challenged me for years as it tumbled through my thoughts, then I saw something else! In these painful times we create the reputation of Christ, and it is by this reputation people choose to accept or reject Him! When we express love and grace in the midst of our pain others see that love and grace as God's. If we are angry, bitter, and judgmental, others see Christ as an angry judge out to get them. Thank you Jess and Miah for suffering with grace and love!

People can say that God and gardening have nothing to do with each other. But that is totally wrong. God has everything to do with gardening, and with all creation. If God were to really leave gardening or anything else things would stop to exist. We can’t grow food without God. We can’t really live life without God. I really love your devotionals. Praise God for so many things for everything. And I praise God for connecting me to your channel. Thank you for making your videos. I thank and praise you God for connecting me to this channel. The Fight of Two Wolves Within You An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life: “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. ”It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil-he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.” He continued, “The other is good - he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you-and inside every other person, too.” The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: “Which wolf will win?” The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

I am so thankful for your garden devotionals. I started sharing them with my 81 year old grandmother who is learning to use a smart phone since my grandfather passed away a year and a half ago. I did this to introduce her to KZbin. After we watch them we have a conversation about them. We live hundreds of miles away from each other. I am so thankful for anything that creates a deep conversation over that distance. She has started following you and has taught herself how to watch the videos I don't send. I started watching you for your amazing garden. The devotionals are a fabulous cherry on to. Thank you.

I have to tell you - I avoided the devotionals when I started watching your channel. I binge-watched your other vlogs until those were all I hadn't seen. I took the leap; I watched the "I AM SO MAD" devotional. It was astonishing to see you process that intensity of emotion, venting in order to reach for understanding and peace instead of cursing and stewing in the anger. It felt like you were sharing your life and experience, not proselytizing; a lens to how you see the world instead of you telling viewers how to be or think, or that they were inferior if they did things differently. When you share tomato growing tips, you present them in a way that offers your experience so that viewers feel welcome to duplicate your path as they choose to, or not. The buffet analogy was perfect - thank you for sharing your vulnerability, your joy, your knowledge, your successes and failures, and your faith in a way that offers your viewers many options. They might not want some of everything and that's okay, but they may come back later to try something different - and like it.

I was raised in a non-Christian/non-religious family. I became a Christian my last year of college. Christians need to treat non-Christians with love and respect if they ever hope to win the world. As a kid I was told I was going to hell. That just pushed me farther away from believing in anything. When a person doesn't believe in something like hell, telling them that is where they are going does not create fear or draw them to God, but does the opposite. I became a Christian because I read the New Testament and realized it was truth. I did not read it looking for truth or cause I was seeking God. I read it as a literary book and the Holy Spirit began to open my eyes to the truth it contained. I wonder though, if a Christian had actually shown me love as a child instead of judgement or not even bothering to share, would I have come to known Him earlier? 6 months after graduating high school I ran into a kid I knew from school who was wearing religious priestly clothing. I had no idea he even believed in God. Thanks for sharing. It was good.

Oh sister you did bless my soul. Anytime you want to explode w the goodness of God I am here to listen. The way the words flow like a river from you w such anointed power blesses my soul. Things around here have been a struggle lately . Its seems everything we own has been breaking. We ask what did i do wrong for so much to be a struggle. I examine myself. Lord I try to be good and do good. I failed someone today. I quickly apologized but I try to do right. My husband says but what happened and how did we get in this situation. Both cars r broken, the washer is broken, the house has issues faster than we can repair them, the bills keep piling up, medical bills , the health issues, and it goes on and on. Where am I failing and what can I do? I know God has the ability to resolve these things but I feel a little lost. Here I am God what would you have me do? Maybe I will start back at psalms .Ty for not being afraid to say this is who I am and you cannot separate me from God. To leave God out of your vlog would be dishonest. Your channel is exploding bc you are following the will of God and this is your ministry.

Right on, Jess. I was just thinking about this today, I plan on starting a channel and my faith will be part of it, it's the best part of me It would be hard to separate it from me. So well said, everything you said was so well said. : ) Goodness, girl, you can preach! Planting seeds and growing love, you are impacting the world. I went through a similar time, not the circumstance but crying out to God to open my eyes, I didn't understand the world, and I asked him to open my eyes and let me see what he saw. He did and what I saw broke my heart. I saw hurting imperfect people struggling to make it through the day, abused people, neglected children and God seeking them all, wanting to save them and love on them. Once that vale was lifted guess who strolled in? It became too much and I started to focus on the inadequacies of humans and the pure evil that walks with us in this world instead of the glorious Lord who was seeking them. I pleaded with the Lord to shut the curtains on me, I couldn't handle it. I don't know if you know of the Katinas but they are one of my favorite groups. They are brothers from Samoa and they sing in perfect harmony and make beautiful music together. Here is their version of 10000 reasons. .kzbin.info/www/bejne/hIfaZaatd9KEiNU I bless you, Jess and your family, and hope this song blesses you.

My dad (a minister of 35 years who went on to be with the lord at age 61) said there were mysteries we wouldn't understand until we get to heaven but on the question of why really bad things happen, the fact is that there is evil in the world and that doesn't one iota take away the fact that God is great. We were put here with free will to love and accept God. If he prevented all bad things from happening, what would be the purpose of free will? What would be the point? We choose good over evil, we accept Christ even in the depths of sorrow. Especially in the depths of hard times.
