I'm looking at those stoves and salivating! The appliances must be worth a fortune! Shame about the rotten joists....

I'm a millennial and we used to have a Rayburn coal fuelled range. Admittedly, we removed it almost as soon as we moved into that house (in the nineties), but we used it for a bit. Mostly for heat rather than cooking, though (we replaced it with electric storage heaters). I've known plenty of other people still using them. This is in the UK - perhaps they are less common in the US.

I have a 1 month old, $2000 GE Profile oven that does not have a proper timer (no countdown/progress just chimes when it's done) , and will not allow the use of the convection feature until I connect it to the Internet - and this oven has a working timer and it is near 100 years old. They don't make them like they used to.

On those Chambers stoves the oven is lined with brick that hold the heat for a long time. Once it's up to temperature you shut off the gas and cook your meal on stored heat. "Cooking without the gas on" was their motto.

My grandmother had 2 of those exact GE Refrigerators in her home in Cape May, NJ.

I know somebody who restores those refrigerators. They are far better than anything made today.

Nice to see things older than me.

Could be really nice if someone wanted to spend a ton of money. Thanks for sharing it. I grew up in a 150 year old house. They get cold when you’re getting out of the shower.

If I had the money I would offer to buy some of those antiques you've got specially those stoves

Holy crap that's old i didn't think that was possible dang

Joists are old but house isn’t falling down. You would need to treat for wood eating insects carpenter ants and termites. Then restructure with new materials.

I would sell my soul for stoves like that. Especially the wood burning one.

Check the antique salvagers. The one I work for had one similar to that a couple months ago that he got from a clean out. And if you're in Upstate NY, there's a lot of those places.

what causes the boards to deteriorate like that where a screwdriver punches right though? Too much moisture, too little, too much heat? Termites?
