With Ser Alliser giving up Janos, it's not just because Jon gave him First Ranger. Its because by giving him First Ranger, Jon showed that despite their disagreements, Jon still will be honorable and give him the respect he deserves. Despite hating him, Alliser also greatly respects Jon in return and will obey his commands as Lord Commander of the Night's Watch. Lord Janos violated his vows by disobeying a direct order, and execution was the lawful punishment, so Alliser was not going to interfere.

Stannis approves of Jon's decision to behead that guy because Stannis believes that for a leader to lead, he has to command the respect of his men and punish disrespect. If you let someone talk to you like that and then just let him go because he apologized and begged, no one is going to take you seriously; by killing him, Jon showed everyone that when he gives you an order, there are consequences for disobeying, that's what Stannis would have done too.

Stannis was a member of Robert Baratheon's council and stayed in King's Landing until Jon Arryn died. He personally knew Janos Slynt and his corrupt ways, but couldn't convince Robert to give enough of a fuck to execute him or even to get rid of him. So Stannis didn't need the context, since he had wanted Janos Slynt's head for awhile now and he knew that he probably deserved it if someone honourable like Jon was chopping his head off.

@nateh99173 ай бұрын
You asked why Jon didn't/isn't helping Stannis take the North from the Boltons, and in universe it's because the Night's Watch swear an oath to stay out of the politics of the 7 Kingdoms. But from a thematic/writing perspective, it all comes down to Maester Aemon's speech in season 1: "Love is the death of duty". While that speech foreshadowed Ned's struggle (and death) later that episode, it also foreshadows Jon's struggles in season 2/3/4 with his love of Ygritte while being duty bound to the Watch. Now we see the same thematic battle within Jon it in season 5, although the stakes are higher now, and the choices more difficult. Before, Jon had been ordered to do whatever it took to gain the Wildlings' trust, so he at least could argue that he had to sleep with Ygritte or they wouldn't trust him, and he was doing the right thing by leaving her and going to defend the wall. Now, his duty obligates him to remain neutral between Stannis ("The King Who Showed Up" and the clear good guy), and the Boltons/Lannisters (murdered Jon's family and plunged the continent into a civil war, clearly the bad guys) who Jon hates due to his love of his family. And he has to remain neutral as the Lord Commander, not just another black brother, because the whole Night's Watch rests on his back. And really it kinda applies to every character. The author of the books has said countless times "The only thing worth writing about is the human heart in conflict with itself". That's why you see Tyrion wrestling with killing his father, who sentenced him to die and was a horrible person. That's why Jaime, even after trying to murder a child to cover up fucking his sister/the queen, and starting a continent-wide civil war, is so rivoting to follow, because once he meets Brienne, you can see that he's TRYING to be honorable and to do the right thing. Just something to think about lol

2 big differences from the books here: 1) Tommen is only 8 at this point in the books. They haven't (as far as we know) consummated the relationship, but they have already gotten married. 2) the Sansa plot doesn't happen in the books. Without spoiling too much in case you read/listen to the books (highly recommend), in the books instead of being Sansa, the Lannisters themselves give the Boltons someone they pretend is Arya. Doing it this way is stupid because there isn't sufficient motive for Sansa or Littlefinger (and because of that, it makes Littlefinger look dumb as hell), plus it means the Boltons are openly rebelling against the Lannisters whereas in the books this is done to strengthen their allegiance.

The Many Faced God is the belief that all of the gods are the faces of one. Everyone knows His gift, which is life. He gives life and takes it away. Those that drink the poison in the House of Black and White are ready to die. They have nothing left and they give their face for eternal peace. I think it's about fate. Accepting that all men must die and that all men must serve in life and death. That there is a greater unexplainable purpose for everything that happens. As dark as the show can be, GRRM isn't a cynic. He's more of a romantic trying to find meaning in the absurdity of it all.

The only reason that Baelish marries off Sansa is because the character from that arc in the book doesn’t exist in the show and they still wanted to do that story. If you think about it he gets literally nothing out of this other than making Sansa hate him from now on.
@samuelhiatt93383 ай бұрын
I HATE what they do with Sansa in this part of the show, especially since its a change from the books. In the books, they have a girl named Jeyne Poole marry Ramsay under the false belief that she is actually Arya Stark. So Ramsay believes he's married Arya to solidify his hold on the North, but it's actually just a random servant girl from the Stark household who had been friends with Sansa. This makes MUCH more sense, rather than Littlefinger's out of character sort of betrayal of Sansa.
@patbau963 ай бұрын
Yeah Baelish marrying Sansa to Ramsay is where the show's writing starts to really fall off the rails for me

Janos needed to be beheaded by Jon for so many reasons. Treason against the King.... BUT ALSO, he DESERTED the Nights Watch in their time of need. Deserters have always been beheaded, Jon grew up witnessing that. This insubordination was just the last straw, and Jon used THAT as the reason to kill him. But, technically, he could have been beheaded with reason prior to it. All 3 things were beheading offenses. 🤷🏼♀️

@@LegenbarryReactions True. Yet you did delve into the underage topic DURING the wedding of Tommen and Margaery when there was also an opportunity at Sansa's wedding and reception (plus the aborted bedding ceremony). I have read an interview of Natalie Dormer (Margaery) regarding an earlier scene when she had sneaked into Tommen's room. Just before departing she leaned in to Tommen and kissed him on the forehead. Dormer went off script in regards to that kiss. She felt Dean-Charles Chapman (Tommen) was too young in actual self and character to be kissed romantically. She kissed him on the forehead because it seemed more suitable for the character and Chapman.
