Brilliant movie. Like many a bio pic it took a few liberties re accuracy, in particular his relationship with Salieri, but still a great movie.

This is from Mozart’s Requiem. He was working on when he died on Dec. 5 1791. It was first finished by Franz Sussmayr to deliver to the person who commissioned the work, a Count whose wife had died earlier that year at the age of 20. Since that time other composers have written other interpretations of it.

Don't shy away from your statements. When it comes to classical music, it is not uncommon for different people to come away with different feelings/views. That is the wonderful part of any great art, music, painting and so on. Touching people differently from one person to another. In fact, the different views can be as interesting as the art itself. Example: wow that came to your mind; it's so different from mine; that's amazing! Yes, great art can do that. As me, you looked so engaged; but I felt like going to sleep, but in a good way. not out of boredom, but as I felt like negative energy was draining from my body. And I just felt like relaxing into sleep. And part of it was that "darkness" you talked about. It added to the soothing effect I felt. The "dark notes" pushed the dark energy out and I felt like powering down into sleep.

Mozart is considered by many to have been the greatest composer to have ever lived. It's a defensible view. He wrote his first SYMPHONY at age eight.

This Lacrimosa is one part of Mozart's Requiem. I would recommend listening to the entire Requiem - it's beautiful. A requiem is a form of music written to mark a death i.e. funereal music. BTW the word Lacrimosa is from Latin and means "weeping/tearful" - hence the sadness of this piece.

It's been a long time since I read his biography, but I believe he started composing at 13, and died in his 30s. If a composer didn't have a wealthy backer, they often lived in poverty. He composed some awesome pieces still enjoyed today. Try the Marriage of Figaro Aria. You Amy recognize it from the Bugs Bunny parady. 😊

there is a very good reason this is kind of dark. this is one of many parts in his final work, and it was a Requiem Mass which is a mass played for the dead or a funeral also, he was very ill when he wrote this an dliterally dying himself didn't fully finish it . this is the last movement he completed in full all by him self. but mozart has multitudes of light music. and really all kinds. there are so many great things you can listen to. i fyou want some ideas feel free to ask :)

Ouch. The piece is entitled, “Lacrimosa.” It is a portion of the sequence of a requiem mass. This is about death and sorrow and loss and grief. Mozart was rarely dark. But if you’re going to go dark, this is how you do it.

The most astounding thing to consider is that he composed countless works, hundreds upon hundreds of major compositions, in a very short lifespan. Many, of not most of these works he composed in days. He didn't sit and tinker with these over weeks and years to perfect them, they existed inside him compete, and the just poured out of him, never to be equaled.

Lol loved the reaction. But actually no, 95% of Mozart's music sounds happy and soothing, only rarely he composed in minor keys that give it this darker sound. This one sounds dark because its just a section of an hour long piece, a Requiem mass (mass for the dead) which is actually the last piece he ever wrote. You really need to check out more classical music, there's lterally thousands of composers that are worth listening to, and every composer had their own style; not only that, every composer used to write different types of music (so for example songs like today's musicians, but also symphonies, opera, chamber music, church music like this one, concertos, sonatas and much more). What i mean to say is there's a lot of variety in every composer in classical music and you will for sure find something you love in it. Personally, I suggest not sticking to a handful of composers, and especially don't make the mistake of thinking the most famous pieces are the best, usually it's the opposite in this genre. The most famous pieces are often just the most boring!! I specifically said "i'll suggest a few pieces that are easier to the ear" which of course makes them more popular. And, in my opinion more boring, because popular classical music pieces are usually simpler, more melodic and pretty repetitive. That's what makes them easier to the ears.

I didn't say melodic means simple, I said melodic pieces are easy to the ears, meaning they're easier to follow, especially for unexperienced ears. When did I say melodies make music boring?? I said that it's more boring, to me, related to some other music that explores and dares more. You talk about Mendelssohn's Violin concerto: it's easy to the ear compared to let's say Prokofiev's 2nd or Korngold's; it has a more steady rhythm, more mainstream harmonies, easier and more "natural" melodies, well-placed typically romantic dramatic climaxes, and thats what makes it so popular. You're assuming I find it "boring" but I actually love it, I know every second of it by memory. It's just not as musically interesting as Dvorak's Violin concerto or Shostakovich's. You think I'm throwing shit at the music you like failing to see I like it too (why would I suggest it otherwise??). I was just adding that classical music is much more than drama, easy melody, easy harmonies and steady rhythm. He, as a reactor, will enjoy the easier pieces more of course, but I was trying to explain that classical music is much more than just that, and eventually he would discover it

you should check out Bach (toccata and fugue in d minor) and Beethoven ( Ode to joy or his 5th symphony) there is a reason this music is played centuries after it was written

While most of Mozart's music is bright and cheery, this is a little darker due to it being a funeral mass. My favorite piece by Mozart is "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik".

Mozart again, from one of his operas 'The Magic Flute', this is 'Der Hoelle Rache' ('Hell's Vengance'), more commonly known as 'The Queen Of The Night Aria'. kzbin.info/www/bejne/j6allnWgprCGfbM It's sung in German, but even without subtitles you will get the gist of the emotions! Basic (very basic) story, young girl is the daughter of the Queen, Queen is trying to get her daughter to kill someone, saying 'if you don't do this, I'll disown you'. The Queen sings some of the highest notes in opera in this aria...great stuff! :-)

Ummm, not Mo Zart....Moat Zart....Mozart. Sorry, drove me crazy every time you pronounced it MoZart. He played for royalty when he was around 5 years old, I believe. If he was allowed he today, we'd be hearing some crazy, amazing music. And yes, as someone suggested, watch Amadeus.
