Peter Green….simply the finest blues guitarist the UK has ever produced…’nuff said.

Finally someone reacting to the early Fleetwood Mac. Peter Green deserved a lot more recognition for his talents than he ever got. The Buckingham Nicks era gets all the attention, but compared to the early incarnation of the band, it's too pop for my taste, good, but not my cup of tea like the Kirwin/Green era.

This is Fleetwood Mac before they went all Girlie and Peter Green lost his soul to drugs. This was way before Eagles and Led Zeppelin.I will not say more than that except that when BB King used to have the best guitarists play next to him,was asked which was his favourite ,his answer was they were all great but but the one that gave me goosebumps was Peter Green.

Yeah... and I recall asking Muddy Waters, in 1968 or so, "Who said B.B. King's the King of the Blues, anyway??" Thinking that Muddy, whom I much preferred, & whom I liked a lot as a person, was being slighted. (I never met B.B. King). Muddy chuckled & said, "Well, I guess HE did..." And I said, "I don't like how he (B.B.) plays; he's too .....slick." That brought out another chuckle, & I think he knew exactly what I meant. And I said I much preferred Muddy's style, because it sounded so, I dunno .... eeeevil... And so it did!! Perfectly evil!! (Another big chuckle). So many great memories from back then....

So good, Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green were incredible, shame what happened to Peter being spiked with LSD in Germany and never recovering properly eventually giving up music for over 30 years, but he did eventually make a comeback and toured his blues band again. Also shout out to a much underrated guitarist Danny Kirwan, he was very much a protege of Peter Greens and was superb but after he left Fleetwood Mac he never really achieved the success his talent deserved

Peter Green is original. In my opinion a MUCH better guitarist than most of his era. You would adore Black Magic Woman (which Green wrote) and Albatross is totally up your alley. Green, McVie and Fleetwoid were apart of John Mayall's before branching off in 1969. For another pre-Nicks Fleetwood Mac history you may like Bare Trees. Another guitarist who is part of the line up above is Danny Kirwin. A VERY good guitarist and a very underrated songwriter. Lots to listen to in your private time.

Peter laughing because Jeremy Spencer cocked up on the maracas! Peter Green, the greatest blues guitarist that the UK has ever produced. Peter would never accept that, but always held to the fact that he was just a guitarist trying to become a better guitarist. In later life Peter became very messed up with psychosis and drugs, but he was rescued and saved. Now in Heaven along with Danny Kirwan, God bless both of them for what they gave us all. It really was the magic such gifted artists are made of.

Great review. You bring value to the table. I'll be back. Before today, I was all about the Christine McVie to Bob Welch years, as heard in Bare Trees and Future Games and Hypnotized...which I prefer to that which came after, when it became shoveled at us. I did finally hear Peter Green's timeless "Black Magic Woman", which Carlos later immortalized, that was the extent of that earliest layer of the Mac. So raw and rich. A new favorite. I had heard this, but didn't know what it was. Now I know. Value. Thanks.

This era of Fleetwood Mac had a more eclectic mix of sounds. This is towards the more blues end. A few others that I would recommend you checking out: Green Manalishi (very hard and heavy rock with a touch of psychedelic in there. Close to Cream) Man of the World (One of the most anguished songs) Dragonfly (very psychedelic)

I understood, ages ago, that (early) FM were outselling the Beatles, at least in Europe. Doesn't surprise me. They had a certain amount of grittiness then, likewise the Stones. Down & dirty always wins out over pretty, I think, at least for some of us!! (A great deal of some of us!!!) 😺 💗 🇨🇦

It's not short . . . it becomes slow and haunting . . .listen to the song on the album. I don't think they wanted to try to recreate it on stage, for a few reasons. One being, after that start, a lot of people find the last three quarters of the song to be slow and boring . . . it's not, it's ethereal. . . . otherworldly and beautiful. That's what was so great about Green, among his singing and brilliant guitar playing, his songwriting went in directions no one else thought of. Albatros is a case in point.

It's a damned shame that 'Oh Well' - good as it is - is the go to intro to Peter's genius, here, Mostly by pure popular acclaim - with Albatross a close second in the early Mac legacy. Because Peter's finest moments - such as 'Jumping At Shadows' from the 'Boston Tea Party' or 'Got a Good Mind... from Dead Bust Blues/New Orleans or 'Someday After Awhile' from 'Hard Road' with Mayall's Bluesbreakers - will probably sadly remain mostly obscurities to younger generations of listeners - especially non playing listeners. Not that Oh Well is unworthy, mind. Just that 50 plus years later, I would've thought Greeny had earned a level of respect that would inspire people to finally dig a little deeper. IMHO, the man was the greatest British bluesman of his generation - bar none.
