K,, me too! Saw them concert once,,, mid 70s,, of course I had to see Dennis Wilson so I was right up stage right. Unfortunately, he needed to be taken off the stage a few times. It wasn't too long after that that he drowned. A lot of people don't know that Brian Wilson did not sing in many of their songs. He produced and wrote from his home studio, and may have provided a background voice here and there. But as you know, he had some mental problems, and couldn't perform on stage. That high-pitched sound in The Beach Boys' 1966 masterpiece "Good Vibrations" is always assumed to be a theremin. But it's not. It's actually an electrotheremin, invented by Paul Tanner. Fun Fact about the Beach Boys: They were a 60s band, but they stayed super-popular well into the 70s- every commercial break on TV seemed to have a spot for a K-Tel Records Beach Boys collection when I was a kid, and all the elementary school kids still listened to them. I've come to learn since that they even had a Saturday morning cartoon series in development. In 1980 & 81, they played the Capitol Mall in DC on the 4th of July. They were expected to do it again in 1983, but Secretery of the Interior James Watt intervened and banned rock music from the 4th of July celebrations because he felt it would draw an "undesirable element" to the Mall. He instead booked Wayne Newton to much public mockery. Who was more all-American than the Beach Boys? All their songs are about surfing, hot rods and girls... It got worse for Watt when Ronald Reagan revealed that he *liked* the Beach Boys, and presented Watt with a plaster trophy of a foot with a bullet hole in it.
