This update is a complete joke I went from being able to easily solo heroic escalations to being 1 shot by behemoths there, and weapon exp is ridiculous it will take months to max out all the weapons.

Yeah same. I heard some stuff about the new update and wanted to give it at least a try myself. All progress is gone, my builds destroyed and they even let me do all the tutorial stuff again and run around in the city to meet the npc's without a skip button before I could go to the first hunting area. It was so amazing I closed the game after around 20 minutes, bcs I couldn't do this any longer. Yeah the game wasn't perfect before, but it was at least fun to play. Now it isn't more then a place holder for other games that I will delete when I'm back home.

The Lvl system, the weapons (there is only one basic weapon for each type, all elemental weapons were degraded to skins, you need to pay with real money to get the 'good stuff' and such. Even the skill tree is garbage now and the fights aren't that much fun as they were before. In short - with the last update the game died :/

To put in perspective the time sink of this update and the previous Reforging took around 1-1.5 hours for a normal player to max out their weapon This update it will take around a month if not more if you play all day every day for one weapon and you deal all around less damage

It's crazy how the first overhaul of the game pushed players progress back but you could still catch back up to where you originally were, but the second overhaul just fucked and reset nearly EVERYTHING back so much it doesn't feel like an incentive to keep playing. Edit: Seems like Phoenix Labs was bought out by a blockchain company sometime last year so this is probably part of the reason behind the excessive paywall releases to the newest update.

Before the update I had a repeater class that I called the 6 tail slayer, I had 3 stimpacks, a helmet that protected me from a deadly blow, nine lives cells to tank another, and agarus repeaters. Top that with medic to revive faster and the little drone I don’t remember the name of paired with the helmet so anyone I revived would become invincible for a while, yea I’m really annoyed I can’t use that anymore

I had several 'builds" I liked to swap around. Whether I was in full Iceborne/Nine Lives and drawing all the aggro possible since I could just face-tank it with minimal evasions or whether I was using my Warpike to max out drops (way back when we still had airships and even the performance-review in beta). For Repeaters, I preferred to play support by buffing my team's damage while I plink -definitely a more 'relax and chill' than the usual frantic dodges I'd use on Swords. It's a damn pity all of this went away.

They said they weren't going to be removing any of the old weapons (just the unique weapons and armors), and the armors weren't going to be affected, they would just be capped at a lower upgrade level. They said that we were going to be getting new weapons that could be leveled up higher than the older stuff. Instead, they took all the weapons away and only gave us the unique weapons, gave all the remaining weapons the legendary weapon abilities, removed the legendary weapon ability to be linked to a different weapon (which is what made them so powerful in the first place), and changed everything about the base stats of everything in the game. Nothing does what it did originally, and you can't change anything about the gear to attempt to save it. And that perk activation requirement just breaks any attempt to make a decent build that works. Before the update a friend and I had came up with our own pike build that did insane wounding damage that then switched into monumental part damage. Now attempting the same build is impossible because we can only get one of the two perks active at a time because there isn't enough room for both to get to the max requirements, and still have slots left for the other boosters needed to make the build work. This game isn't even a functional game anymore, I completely agree that everything is running on 8-bit hardware now, as my character is jittery even when standing still, and I am not even hitting the behemoths while standing directly underneath them. Damage went from 50,000-60,000 down to 2,000, and yes I can't even fight all out because WHERE IS MY STAMINA. Pheonix Labs can't be the only ones to blame either, as I think they got purchased right as they were about to launch the update, and the company made them change it to what we got purely for greed.

When they started adding typical live service mechanics, daily quests, hunt pass, faster hunts... Then reforge, XP grinding... That was already the end.

The fact that I could play a game like monster hunter for free was amazing even if it's like baby mode for monster hunter. The new reforge change looks decent. Re-upgraded all my builds. Took another long break from the game again. I came back after the recent update, only to find out they reset everything again. All those hard work of grinding…just gone. Only to have a small amount of materials to craft whatever is available for crafting. My weapons and armors, I have to craft again? Why, just why? Great summary, thanks. I left right before Reforge and returned casually a couple months ago. I got bored pretty quickly, but held out for Awakening in hopes that it would live up to its name. Sadly, it fell so incredibly flat on its face. The magic that made this game great is truly gone and in its place is a soulless mess.

I played Dauntless specifically because it was a more bombastic visuals version of MHW. I spent oodles of time getting ever warpike and a few other weapon types, because they all looked neat and had a varied ability pool. Now… all gone. Didn’t even leave me a single warpike, and only are selling 2 at the moment. Meaning that the 300 weapon dukkats leave me deciding which 3 weapons I want to replace the dozen+ weapons I did have.

I think the problem Phoenix Labs never figured out how to properly monetize the game. They tried to copy the Fortnite formula, which doesn't work in a game like dauntless since fortnite has more variety in its monetization.

@kaden-sd6vb that's true. but I'm not wrong when I say Fortnite has more monetization options compared to Dauntless. Dauntless only has 7 weapons with your average player using around 2-3. Fortnite has tons weapon options each with their own skins. Not to mention pick axes. This gives fortnite more purchase options.

It worked, thats the problem, Dauntless was a success, but Phoenix Labs took the profit and invested in 10 new projects, abandoning Dauntless in the process, those 10 projects failed, only 1 launched and was a flop. 2 years without updates they return to Dauntless with this. It was bad decisions that lead to this, not lack of profit.

Seeing what happened to Dauntless hurts, it has been kinda this backburner game that has a significant staple in my memory throughout the end of my schooling as I'd hop on with some friends in the afternoon or even when I convinced my dad to play it with me and we both got really invested... Thinking now that I couldn't possibly recommend the game to others, even as a "free" to play title, and knowing that the Dauntless I got so attached to is in the most literal sense gone and never coming back, good god. I remember when my little friend group first started with Shock Esca, some others got bored but I stuck around to see how the game developed, the memory waking up at an unholy hour in the morning cause of my timezone, just to update the game for Umbral Escalation and exploring the new Ramsgate for the first time. The game was so charming, it was never super popular or well known but it had a dedicated little fanbase and I was happy to be part of it. What a shame, to go out like... THIS, instead of just sunsetting it as a developing project altogether.

I quit about 3-4 years ago, not for any particular reason mind you, I didn't hate reforged, but I just didn't want to burn out on the monster hunting genre and Dauntless was making me feel that then after years of MH before it. Excited for wilds next year to get hunting again.

Devs really saw what Monster Hunter wilds is doing & thought " well, we can't compete globally with that, so instead of keeping our current player base we will get all the money possible before they leave for wilds" instead of just keeping the game good for players to enjoy the game. Which in turn actually brings in new players

I was actually exited for this update from what I read a couple months ago, but it's so disapointing. The special effects we could all do on all weapons are now only available on one, which is making you change even the way you fight (in a bad way). I used to enjoy the chain blades and now I do no damage at all. It's just sad. And it's not even a pay to win, it a pay to play the most basic option of the game.

The part that disappoints me the most is that it was GENUINELY nice having an accessable Monster Hunter type of game, honestly if it werent for Dauntless i wouldve never realized how much i love the concept alone of Monster Hunter games, this was my introduction to that whole genre. Id come back every now and then, just to see it get worse over time. I used to reccomend this to anyone who was curious about Monster Hunter games and wanted to dip their toes in, now its just a bad joke that gets sadder over time. It kinda reminds me of what happened to Halo, just corprate greed taking over. All i can say now is just "yikes" man.

In my opinion, when Dauntless was trying to be more like a 1 for 1 monster hunter back when it started was probably the best version. I tried it when it basically came out, then again late 2020- early 2021and I stopped after a little bit.

TLDR: Game had a lot of sentimental value, I played and suggested it a lot but not anymore since I feel very betrayed by this update I discovered this game through a friend and I found it so so cool. I loved it and played it almost every day for about a year (I started playing around the time the Blaze Hawk Huntpass first released). Then I did kind of forget about it but came back shortly after reforged was released, I noticed the changes and I didn't really like the Aethercore upgrade system but I could deal with it. Then recently, I met a girl that's now my girlfriend and she likes videogames and Dauntless was just such a precious game to me that I wanted to show it to her. Not anymore. After this mess of an update released I didn't want her to start playing it. That's how bad it hit. I loved this game. I really did. It had so much going for it in my opinion, available on basically ANYTHING, all consoles covered as well as PC and it's PVE so you don't have to worry about showing it to friends and theb they get destroyed by mire experienced players cuz it's not PvP but PVE. But this update is absolutely REDICULUS. Before it was possible to max out some gear, it took time, yes, but it was possible. Now you might as well call it impossible bc that amount of grind is just unholy. I can only say again: I absolutely LOVED this game and it was the #1 Multiplayer I would suggest playing if my friends didn't know what to play. Not anymore. And I genuinely feel heartbroken

Daunt old pro(when we had pursuits) Monster hunter dinosaur (when the attacks were on dpad) here. My biggest gripe about Daunt going the way of the dodo is the fact that my suns became the only other option for repeater users. I had a dedicated off meta build i was proud of and every time i got a party invie it was secretly because of extraction cylinder (2seconds of abilities after dodge) and based it around Tempest, Invigorated, Drop, Impulse and Cunning. "I was excited to play dauntless, but this is just a different game with the same name." Sums up my heart as a whole.

This is a genuine disaster. I do like some aspects of Awakening, making each weapon unique and not have as many having a lot has its own advantages. But i didn't know the grind was THAT insane, holy hell. In every area they fucked up tremendously. Even choices that i could agree with were executed very poorly.

I hopped on Dauntless to check out the new update and was devastated to see all my builds and weapons pretty much gone and it instantly killed my excitement I instantly uninstalled. I loved the old quests, patrols and progression from before the reforged update there was so much potential in the earlier stages of the game. It's sad to see it become this washed up attempt of a cash grab.

I stopped playing for a long time because of lack of content and no replayability. And like you, was hoping to get back into it. I will say this one thing. I am extremely tolerant person and very patience, but this update is super questionable to me. I was willing to put up with all the changes except for the fact they took away the ability to customize weapon special and modifier. I am against that idea cuz that’s what I like about dauntless, but since they took it away it feels like they took away your freedom.

I just reinstalled the game a few days ago because i wanted to fight rezakiri or shroud, or do the new escalation. But everything was greyed out. I thought “oh i might have to do a couple things and i’ll get all my progress back!” NOPE. They actually made me start ALL over again. I just uninstalled the game again after that. And i thought the same thing. “They fucking ruined the game.”

The writing was on the wall and I wasn't gonna stick around until stuff like THIS went down, because it was 100% gonna happen. I poured SO MANY hours into this game, and instead of respecting my countless achievements, and whatnot, I get virtually everything taken away, and treated once again like a recruit. This is DISGUSTING. I thought the new scuba themed outfit looked cool. To buy these new "canisters", and you can't even choose which, you'd need to spend like 50 bucks to get everything. So, what was once something you could acquire in the elite hunt pass, while also getting your money back, now you have to fork out enough money to essentially buy an actual new game. Plus, we don't even get AT LEAST one weapon for each Behemoth type. Wanna play with a terra sword? Good luck with that. The game now FORCES you to choose other weapons you might not like, or are even comfortable with. Seriously. I am so saddened by what they've done. Got bored with it a couple years ago, and didn't like what I was hearing about the new update; but stayed positive. But this....This is WORSE in every conceivable way.😞

At first it was peerless stones, which was okay, then it was reforging, which was BAD (not trying to swear) and now it is a complete overhaul of start from the beginning. i used to play dauntless when i got the switch on Christmas years ago, i was able to meet you in game and then follow from time to time to watch your content. i will say the game lead me to play monster hunter rise when it came out. dauntless lead me to meet what it could be my favorite type of games since then. since I've to build my very first PC and tried to play dauntless again it was when i got to face the first reset to my character progression and i couldn't face the fact that they took my hours of grinding of almost every weapon at the beginning. seeing how it is today has also damaged me seeing the game no longer being the same and asking for more money and locking the game full content to everyone. i will thank dauntless for the introduction and having to say bye to this game due to cash grab progression is very tragic to the community that keep it up until today. i may not have the last words but i will wait for my next legendary hunt on monster hunter wilds o7
