Ohio Turnpike begins new toll collection system

I went there today. New to the system. All signs said ez pass. I didn't see a lane for me. I tried stopping to get a ticket, only to turn and see a sign. It said no tickets here. Then I looked forward and another sign said do not stop. Here I am stuck, I rang the bell just before I saw that sign. It was supposed to be about a two$ toll. When I got to the exit they made me pay almost $20! What a deceptive way to go. Stop, don't stop. Go! OMG why don't u just send a bill to my address rather than cheating me. I'm a widow trying to go to the Drs. Grrr!

I only use the pike once a year for the airport so I'm just getting a ticket.

If I am reading this info correctly, the ohio tnpike is now using open tolling, or cashless tolling. I don't see any ticket option. What that means is that they take photo of your license plate at the start and end of your trip and the registered owner of the vehicle gets the bill in the mail (there are also usually ways to go online to pay it as well). Of course, if one already has an ezpass transponder, then the toll is deducted from your account. If you are only going on the road once a year, then the cost difference between the ezpass rate vs the cashless toll rate might not be a big enough value for you to get the device. I recommend folks get an ezpass from an organization that does not charge any activation fee. Here in NYC, the MTA EZPASS does not do that nor do they have any sort of monthly account maintenance fee (I don't know if the Ohio division does). You do not have to get the unit from your 'home' state. And considering that NJ and the MTA ones have different toll rates if you are not using their device on their roads/bridges/tunnels, it might even make sense to get a 2nd unit so that you could switch before traveling on the other's roadways.
