Two of the best single edge razors on the market today going head to head to see who is the ultimate king of the hill. First up, we have the brand new improved Parker Soloedge that has a magnet added to the back of the razor to help when loading razor blades. Last, but surely not least we have the leaf thorn, which is, in my opinion, is the best single edge razor you can buy on the market today. The results were very interesting. Check out one below to help support the channel. Thank you in advance!

Been waiting for this video.Had the thorn for almost a year.One of my favorite razors.The only downside of the twig or thorn is if it breaks down it’s not easy to take apart.I seen Heiko shaves break one down and it was complex.I do put some mineral oil in the bottom and turn back and forth a couple of times every three shaves to keep it in shape.I also keep it in the stand.Love your videos.Keep up the good work.John B F

I was thinking about this razor a few months ago, "Is there such a thing?" "There should be a classic razor, not a disposable cartridge razor, but a double- or triple-blade razor..." I said. But today you gave me a very useful information. I wanted something like this, which takes classic razors to the next level. "I'm going to buy it right away. Thank you very much.

I ordered the parker solo, but couldn't get it. They put it on back order. Then sent me the version 2 with the magnet in it. So I guess I loved the fCt they made me wait, so the could send new version. Shave pretty good. Love the weight of it. Thought it was going to be lighter than it is. I prefer heavier razors.

I'm glad Parker listened to the feedback surrounding how hard it was to load a blade into the solo edge and found a way to place a magnet into the design. Honestly makes me wish I would have waited before I bought mine. Still think the solo edge wouldn't have landed in the retirement drawer immediately. It just tore my face up with my most forgiving blade. The Leaf Twig now has residence in my shave cabinet. I have yet to get a bad shave out of it. I get better shaves with it than razors that cost me 150+ dollars (and I'm trying to like the one I got this week...but after 2 shaves I'm ready to throw it right in the trash). It's funny, the more razors I buy the more I realize I might already have what works for me and stop buying. The 3 razors that work best for me all cost between 50-100 bucks.

I shave with a straight and also with a vintage Valet Auto Strop using the Feather single edge blades., and honestly, this just doesn't look like a very good shave. I think it is very difficult to beat a really thick blade that doesn't flex or judder. DE blades are just too thin.

@@OhioShaves All true. There are a wide variety of SE razors that use half DE blades. Some clamp the blade closer to the edge than others. They are milder, but I think that they support the blade better. Honestly, I would like to see more SE razors that use the Feather SE or GEM blades. Those are really thick and flex a lot less at the edge .

Same Razor just a little easier to load. Are you having problems loading your Razor?
@Gotobecrazy
@Gotobecrazy 6 ай бұрын
@@OhioShaves It hasn't been much of an issue for me. But sometimes the blade shifts if I'm not paying attention before I screw on the top cap. The blade can easily fall off the base which the magnet fixes that problem. Wetting the blade before loading helps. A tip from another KZbinr if you snap your de blades cut the extra metal off at the top corners (sometimes the half de blade are uneven) will fit better in the Solo Edge when clamping down. He also liked putting two blades in the Solo Edge so it becomes like an old SE which had thicker blades. Have not tried it myself.

Thanks. This solidified my decision of not looking at any other single blade designs as Thorn continues to be my favorite of all the razors I have. I do like the cutting action of the slant razor I have and at times use the J stroke with the Thorn to similar effect. It might not be possible because of the narrowness of the half blade, but I'd love to see a Thorn shape with a slant.

I'm still hoping you can test out a single edge razor using thicker Feather Artist Club blades which are 'thicker, sharper and more rigid than a double-edge blade' with some reviewers saying: 'They cut like butter', 'I get the best shave of any blade out there (alongside feather DE)', 'I believe that they are sharper than any DE blade I've tried. At the same time, they are not terribly unkind to your skin', 'I literally don’t want to use any of my double edge razors again after using these!' Admittedly, I have belabored (and hyped) this issue with numerous comments in your past videos, but listening to your first passes with these single edge razors just bring up painful shaving memories...😁 If need be, I'd come to Bath Township to make it happen.

Thanks for the video. I have only one shave so far on the Parker v1. Noticed there is a lot of blade feel (may have been just me) and the channels right below the blade get full rather quickly. That is just the first blush. Plan on trying it out during the month of April. At the moment like my Leaf Twig but you are right on the lock up. I don't know what voodoo they do inside that thing to get it to act that way (Twig). Also is it just me or does it feel like the knob should turn the other way. Don't know why but that feel counter intuitive to me for some reason. Glad Parker listened and added the magnet I don't really have an issue without the magnet but that is only because you told me what to expect. Thanks once again for this comparison.

I own both the Parker and the Leaf Thorn and Twig razors. My favorite is the Thorn. Unfortunately, it has developed some rust. The seller has agreed to replace it but will also discontinue selling this model. For daily use, the Leaf is easier to load with blades and offers a bit more precision under the nose. However, it requires more effort to disassemble and maintain compared to the Parker, which is virtually maintenance-free. Despite these differences, both brands remain my favorites among all other brands.

@OhioShaves hey thx for the reply. It might be the case. it's probably no big difference. Although it would have been nice if they mention to you and other reviewers that the first one was a test unit with an improved version coming out next. I am sure its not just me that's a bit upset about it.

You have to give Ohio Shaves a break. I feel nothing but honesty on his part. I felt the same way when Parker came out with their variant adjustable razor. I had concernes with the blade exposure on one side but I did not blame the reviewer I blamed the company.

@@OhioShaves I have the R41 (too aggressive in my opinion) and the 23c which I enjoy using. I’m thinking about buying the R89 but have no clue about it. I honestly regret buying the R41 (because of how harsh it is) but plan on getting the R89 (I heard good things about it, smooth shaving, gentle on face…).

I'm not a big fan of pearl Razors. They just designed knock offs of every razor they make. I don't think it's fair to other manufactures that put in all the R&D work, and then for some company to come along and just make a copycat and take profits from the original manufacturer.
@raystar9724
@raystar9724 6 ай бұрын
@OhioShaves I agree with you. A company should not copy but can get inspired by other products and bring some valuable changes in the product, some innovation to the customer. Would you do a comparison between Parker 78r and solo edge ? Thanks.
