It is indeed really interesting that the manual doesn't mention preload on the forks... Regarding the damping on the forks, usually the adjusters turn with the preload adjustment. If you do hold it, you will be adjusting the comp/rebound when changing the preload.

They should go into this stuff in detail in the manual- it upsets me that they don’t, because the higher spec forks are touted as a premium feature. I have a 22 XE, which came with Ohlins forks, and I just had to take it to a shop to set the preload because the adjusters wouldn’t turn. They said the caps need to be replaced because the adjusters were wound down too tight. It was done before anyone purchased the bike new. It’s my only complaint on the bike!

You are too right. If I can explain it it can't be that hard. I'm glad I figured out the preload though, these bikes have quite sharp turning and without proper adjustment mine would oversteer the turning line
