To download an mp3 file of the accompaniment, go to www.steveparkhornmusic.net. The first two movements of this piece are playable by a good high school horn player. The last movement (this one) is much more difficult!!! Subscribe! I will be adding more solos on a regular basis. I teach horn at a University and my goal is to create a video library of some of the best horn solos for my students and others. Also let me know if there is something you would like me to record. If you would like an mp3 file of the accompaniment, send me your email address and I will send you the file.

Missed one of the triplets. I have tons of trouble through the triplets and that high lip trill. It's the one section that terrifies me to perform

If you can lip trill, the trill at the end is easy. If you can't do lip trills, you just have to start practicing them until you can do them. There isn't any shortcut. You just have to practice them every day for a few months. Good luck!!!

Whole step trills on horn are played as "lip" trills. You find a fingering that works for both notes and then move quickly back and forth between them using only you lips to change the note. It's not too hard but it does require a lot of practice to master.

Amazing lip trill 2:03 Should be amazed, im practacing that at the moment. I don't know what this is called, but i have mastered humming and playing the french horn at the same time to produce a chord now, im so pleased! AWSOME TRILL!

I agree, but it's tough to have nuances when you are playing with a pre-recorded accompaniment. In a recital with live accompaniment, I would have more freedom.

You can do a valve trill with standard fingerings from the D to E but it won't sound nearly as good as a real lip trill. Learning to lip trill is really great for increasing your flexibility and accuracy because you learn to control the very center of your embouchure. There asome good articles online for learning to lip trill.

@jubjueb123 You have to work up to it. For low notes, I practice doing arpeggios down. It's in Philip Farkas' book, I'm not sure the name, I think "The Art of French horn playing" and it's one of the warm-ups. For high, I just practice scales upwards. Those arpeggios go up too so that's how I get it. Sorry I'm not much help.

Fantastic! Most people play the first and third movements far too slow. This is just the perfect tempo. This movement is by far the most fun thing for me to play (I'm a sophomore in high school), and it's nice to finally have a good version on KZbin. Is there any way that I could get a copy of your accompaniment (or is it a special program?)? Can't wait for the next video!

BTW, you are very talented thank you very much for this! I'm applying for a scholarship for the school of music at the University of Georgia so your videos are really helping me select a piece. My audition date is February 18th!!

I am working on this piece I am a sophmore in HS, I am so excited but alittle terrified about the end of the piece with the range, Also I was looking at the music sheet while listening to this and I was wondering what a "tutta forza" is and "sons bonches _ _ _ _ _" thing is. I'd ask my teacher but it's a weekend and I don't want to waste time, when I am not even sure when I have to play this piece is.

To TXHB1FH89...I found it was easier to do trills by trying to play between both notes. In other words flub the higher note on purpose using your lips to do it. Be careful not to move your jaw too much. Think of it as flubbing the note on purpose. All horn players flub notes, LOL!!!! This is the one time it sounds like you know what you are doing. The best trill to practice is the C-D trill. The harmonics on the horn make it easy to learn.

Wow, not bad. I performed that piece 3 years ago but I played it a bit faster. Anyway, this tempo is really nice and understandable ;) I know, that's a bit a funny question: However, you mentioned us to tell you what we like you to record. As you maybe know, Neruda's concerto si actually written for French Horn. Is it possible to record that one? I know it's nearly unplayable but there is no performance on KZbin at all ;) THX
