Brilliant review! I have both sets of markers and because I bought my Copics years ago I now shrink into myself when I think of what they cost me compared to Ohuhu. I bought the wooden shelves because I thought keeping them horizontal was best but I may be wrong. I’m stunned Claire at what your Copics have done and now I feel I better check all mine because like you mine are years old. I am 100% an Ohuhu marker lover so no Copics have been purchased for years now. I would love a colouralong like you did in this video showing us how to get skin colour and hair right with markers. I also would love a review of Karin realbrush pro. Thank you so much Claire.❤️🌹

Straight forward review and analysis. Thanks for the video. My experience with Ohuhu was not with the Honolulu series and the markers were horrible. The ink yellowed through my pages and ruined a few books. I returned them and have not tried Ohuhu again. I may in future try the Honolulu series and hope for your results.

Out of curiosity, did the Ohuhu markers you tried before come in a hard plastic case? And were the markers themselves on the thinner side, slightly triangular in shape?

I also have a few Copic markers and have only used them a few times and had problems with 2 of the tips drying up. I’m very unhappy with them. I just purchased the 320 set of Ohuhu markers and should get them today. Thank you very much for your video!

Thanks for this!! I have long thought that for my coloring needs, the copics were not worth the cost. I may look to replace my old set of ohuhus with the honolulu set...if i can figure out where to store them!!

Thanks for this review! Very helpful. I am getting back into illustration after six years of not touching any art supplies. I own perhaps a couple dozen Copic markers; they've been sitting in a drawer unused all this time. I've tested them all just now, and they are all in tiptop shape. So, regarding those moldy tips, I am absolutely not saying it's your fault; just highlighting that one's mileage may vary, maybe due to different storage conditions or differences in production batches, who knows.

Once again, you rocked it. I’ve had the Ohuhu 216 set for almost 2 years and before that I had the 168 with chisel and bullet nibs. I recently purchased the 104 and skin sets to make the 320 set. I started to buy a few Copics to complete my alcohol marker sets. I think the Ohuhu falls short in the very light area. For instance, COPIC R0000, R000, E0000, E000, YR0000, YR000, BV0000, etc…. Ohuhu has no representations for this level or tint of color. Seeing as each color maxes out after 2 - 5 applications, some lighter Ohuhu colors can get darker than I want. Next, I’m having issues achieving realistic skin tones with both Ohuhu and COPIC markers. The COPIC E0 series is too peach; the E5 series is too yellow; the YR0 series is too orange; and the R0 series is too pink. The Ohuhu is all over the place. Your video demonstrating faces colored with different combinations to reflect differing skin tones was a lifesaver. Thank you for that. Do you plan on making some videos for Ohuhu color combinations of markers that blend well together? Also, do you find the durability problems you mentioned with the COPIC markers are inherent in both Sketch and Ciao? Or just Sketch? Again, thanks for all the hard work you do.

@@davidchapman2213 I’ve heard Ciao are better because it’s the oval shape of the Sketch that causes cracks

Around 10:30, the issues of hairline fractures with the Copic Sketch markers really can't be overstated. I've noticed more and more complaints popping up about this more and more often, yet Copic has yet to address the issue in any way. It's suspected the oval shape of the Sketch markers specifically is what causes it, as the circular Copic Ciaos don't seem to be affected even close to the same degree (last estimate I heard is the Copic Sketches have about a 10% failure rate, and that lines up with my 12 or so dead markers out of ~130 total). If that _is_ the case, then the circular shape of the Honolulus is probably what's kept them safe, but I do worry about their also-oval-shaped Oahus and if they might develop the issue eventually too. That said, I mainly wanted to comment to agree that the failure rate for the Copic Sketches is completely unacceptable at their price point. At least if Ohuhu's Oahus _do_ develop the same issue, they're _so much_ less costly to replace, and they've proven that they listen to customer feedback well, so I'm more confident in Ohuhu's willingness to do something about it if does become an issue for them too. I _used_ to say Copics are worth it if you need their reliability and availability [and the other perks like sensical number codes and their airbrush system] more than you need Ohuhu's affordability, and that is still true to _some_ extent, but generally this cracked cap issue calls even that into question. Ohuhu isn't perfect, there's no argument about that, but Claire, I think you came down as fair as is possible when comparing the two. I've said it many times before and I'll say it again: Even with their faults, it's extremely hard to beat Ohuhu's value for their price point.

@@MysticSparkleWings thank you for commenting, your Reddit post about how to obtain Ohuhu’s extra brush colours is so helpful! I hope I can find a Japanese exclusive set somewhere. It’s really not on to have issues like cracks with a product so expensive. Even if they were perfect and didn’t crack, I still struggle with the price point. In my opinion Copics are overpriced. I don’t know how much cheaper they are in Japan, it might be import costs that bangs up the price? My Ciaos haven’t gone dry or mouldy at all so I think you’re right about it being the shape of the Sketch causing issues, like you said Copic really should have sorted that out by now, but I don’t see any attempt to? Ohuhu listen to customers and most importantly, implement changes (they even sent me a feedback survey asking how they can improve) which is a sign of a good customer focused company. If they sort out their numbering system and refills, keeping the price as fair as it is now, I honestly think they’re a huge threat to Copic xx
@MysticSparkleWings5 ай бұрын
@@ColourwithClaire Of course! I've very nearly made a second job out of keeping track of the different colors/sets by now. 😅Do be warned-and I updated the linked Reddit post with this information too-it was just discovered within the last week or so that there are unfortunately now _two_ Japanese 80 sets, one of which swaps out the 19 exclusives for other colors. 🤦♀ The 80 sets in Sanrio-branded packaging should still be safe, but for now the best practice when buying a black-case set on eBay is to message the seller and verify the 19 exclusive colors should be there. I do wonder if part of the problem is Copic just can't figure out an optimal way to fix the issues with the Sketch, but if that's the case then the very least they could do is implent a replacement policy for when the markers do fail. That's the other thing about Ohuhu-People _have_ gotten sets with dry markers or other issues before, but just about every account I've seen reports their customer service handling the issues well and quickly when they do come up. I can't say the same about Copic. Also worth noting-There was a survey Ohuhu sent out a couple of months ago (end of May I think) that proposed a _new_ numbering system for the markers that's nearly identical to Copic's in how it functions, so they are aware the system as it is now isn't ideal. Same as the refills, no telling _when_ it'll be put into practice, but as you say, I think Copic should _really_ be watching their back as far as Ohuhu is concerned, more so than any other competitor alcohol marker brand that's hit the market in recent years.

Agree on this. I have babie’d my copics because some of them came from gifts from friends. I had some dried up markers even though I only used them once and made sure i capped them properly. It is so disheartening to see them dried up and to constantly worry that there will be more next time. I am now looking into getting ohuhu instead because of this.

I have 2 dozen unusable copics that dried out on me of the 200 I purchased. I’m very disappointed and contacted copic customer service and never heard back from them. I had a creator tell me well you need to use them and they will dry out. But these are completely dry and I’m not going to take the chance of replacement ink. I do not recommend copic anymore especially since customer service does not respond Tfs

I have the same issue with Copic. The problem is the chisel end on the sketch markers, the other styles have no issues and I’ve had many that I’ve either had to throw away or glue the chisel end on so it wouldn’t dry out the brush end. It’s very disappointing, I tried to get Copic to replace them but it became such a hassle it wasn’t worth the bother. I’ve lost about 25 markers. The only trouble is the Ohuhu cap color and ink variation makes me crazy. I don’t want to always refer to a chart then hunt down the marker number, it’s frustrating for me. So for now I’ll stick with Classic or Ciao Copics. Come on Copic fit your problem.
@clairewilliams94165 ай бұрын
I’ve not brought copics and I’m not sure I ever will, even if they are better (which is questionable) they definitely aren’t worth like 5 times the price of a Ohuhu. I’m shocked to learn I am missing colours I thought the 320 set included all the skin tones and grey sets. The Ohuhu storage cases look lovely but rather expensive if you need to home the entire collection. I have cheap cases from Amazon for like £12 each don’t get me wrong they are thin flimsy and held together with super glue but they do look good and with the addition of super glue you can now pick it up without it falling apart.

Yes, Copic's quality dropped drastically. My first copics from 2010 are still good and wet, still have ink in them. I bought around 30 copics in 2022 and it's dissapointment - 2 dried very fast, replacing the nib and refilling them didn't help, they dried out for the second time. For a hobbyist artist Ohuhu and similar markers are far better choice
