Hey Eric , just purchased a 2016 SDR with a little over 8 k. miles. The bikes prior owner did a ton of mods. All over the bike. I find things1 all the time , blinking brake tail light 👍, custom seat ( made a huge difference ) power sports commander plug in ( not sure just what that does but this thing flys, yoshimira exhaust, adjustable levers, I could go on and on. I used to have a 66 Harley Sportster. I think I lost $50 worth of chrome every time I road it from the vibrations. This Duke is by far the best bike I've owned . Thanks for the oil change tutorial. Great info. David ride safe🛵

Every used bike I've bought, I try to find with mods that I would've made myself, basically to try and get more for my money. Yours sounds awesome! The only things left I'd like to do is the comfort ergo seat, and maybe some bar end mirrors. Appreciate the support, you ride safe, as well! ✌🏽🤓

Nice video Erick👍 20 Nm for draining plugs with 6Nm oil filter and Motorex 10w50 I'm running with the 2016 model 1st gen and have it for almost 4 years . If I can i will never sell it just buy the 2022 model 1290 but keeping this 😂 I already have 3 bikes 🙈⚠️

@@CatalinAdc How do you like you're Ducati? Has it been reliable? I considered a Diavel or a Multistrada in the past, but wasn't sure about reliability and cost of maintenance

@@thatoneguymoto I had a 1098 Ducati Streefighter in the past 2010 year. It was the normal not the S version. A good bike and didn't had any issues bought it from her first owner I was 2nd . Sold it when was 28.000 km and bought it at 18.000 . Replaced 2 times the timing belts and had changed just sparks and normal maintenance nothing bad. In my opinion it depends a lot of the previous owners and how was maintenance made , when because Ducati parts are pretty expensive if you go to dealership 😉 but nothing to worry. I've had friends with Diavel model almost same engine but different electronics now they've been going in the V4s engines wich are amazing on mechanical engineering💪

Most manuals do not offer torque settings. KTM manual close to service manual with torque settings and major services in the manual. Ducatis manual recommends taking the bike to the dealership even light bulb changes. Of course, yearly or bi yearly visits to dealership for software updates
@thatoneguymoto
@thatoneguymoto 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, those manuals that tell you take it in, are essentially pointless. I get that a lot of bikes and maintenance are connected to the bike's computer, but simple things like chain maintenance, oil and filter changes, coolant, etc really need to be available to the rider, IMO. 🤓

Hi, each chooses the oil he wants, as is natural. I know KTM recommends the "brand" of oil Motorex Power Synt 4T 10W50 probably they have agreement with Motorex, just like other manufacturers, they have agreements with other oil brands.? but within the brand's specifications: and why not, for example the also more than proven Motul 7100 10W50 ? just an opinion ;) Thanks Best Regards

You're absolutely right. Everyone is entitled to using the oil they desire. It's also going to depend on the kind of riding you do. Appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. Ride safe out there ✌🏽🤓

@@thatoneguymoto I also appreciate your answer and your video note: I have some experience in motorcycles, maintenance, repairs, etc... but my question was by no means comparing oils which one brand of oil is better than the other or not. Both are good oils, just that. and it's as you say and well, each one chooses what they think is best based on their experience or use, etc... Nice curves for you, with this beautiful machine!

It's way simpler than the ktm950sm. I have a few dry sump bikes, and getting the fill just right can be annoying. At least these don't have oil tubes which are hard to see the oil level once theyve aged and darkened up.

Did you refill and check oil on the side stand? Not uprighting the bike as the manual says?

David hi, I’m thinking about buying a used KTM Duke 1290 , 2016 , 8k miles they are asking 13k . More or less anything about long term ownership of this bike. My past bikes are Buel M2 , Buel lightning, Triumph Speed triple.

I've pretty much loved everything about owning this motorcycle. I do my own maintenance, and the manual is really good at walking an owner through the process. I guess the only thing to consider is dealer support. I bought mine from a kind of (US) nationwide dealer chain (Eurocycle) but if I had to take it in the closest KTM dealer is about 40 minutes away. That might be my only gripe, but fortunately I have not had any mechanical issues to speak of.

It was nice to see the old Super Duke has it's own tin foil hat. Does it conjure up theories about Harleys and Indians? I like the design of an internal oil filter and that little magnet to collect shavings is brilliant. Impressively designed motor bikes.
@thatoneguymoto
@thatoneguymoto 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, the magnet that is on both oil plugs is a great idea. Also, when they're clean, it's reassuring that things are working well inside. 👍🏽
