I learned to work on my own boiler after I was taken advantage of by several different guys. One guy charged me an extra $400 because his sons new jeans got ruined. I bought a brand new Crown boiler a couple years ago and installed it my self. I’m glad that there are guys like you and Steve Lave out there doing it right and treating people good.

Great job !!! I’m reading a book copy righted in 1978 on how to treat service oil burners! And this is exactly what you need to do to service them! He even used the same tools and methods to check efficiency! Not new these fancy instruments. Thanks!
@adk1guy
@adk1guy 2 жыл бұрын
In 1978 they didn't have electronic combustion analyzers, which read in real time. Not make an estimated adjustment, try to take another 3 minute test but the boiler stopped because its up to temp, send the heat upstairs, try again, repeat. In todays world that is a amateur doing one job vs a pro doing as a trade. Now I only service the five or so burners I own. I am not going to buy a new $2500 electronic tester. I'll dig out one of the old Bacharach kit we put on the shelf 25 years ago and buy some new fyrite fluid because while I used to be a pro, now I am an amateur

I find this hard to believe. Not your work but everything you do. I'm not a burner guy but I can tell you probably 2 out of 10 people will do all this. I never even thought this was so much work an individual would do. If this is how you take are of all your clients or just for content then you would have my business. Thanks for showing how to do the whole process and the right way to take care of thr customer. Like I said I'm sure not all repair men do this and I'm sure they don't because I have others to the house and timing them they don't hold a candle to you. Thank you . Keep up the great work. As a boiler man I have used every type of light and always go back a LED mini mag light. Always handle light by the front half of flash light never touch the rear half because you will go back to putting it in your mouth as it is easier to manage. and with time you will be able to hold a conversion while working. Remember to put light in your mouth and hold like a cigar. Most people who knock this method put much worse in their mouth. Thank you. Eric

Thanks brother. I couldn't get anyone to come do my yearly service this year. Its December and every place I called said they don't have any openings until March/April ( since I don't have any contracts with anyone) I figured what's the point then winter is pretty much past by then. I have watched techs perform the services in the past so had a rough idea what to do, but thanks to this video I feel confident that I can at least handle the change of all the filters and cleaning the unit to get me through this year. I don't have all the stuff towards the end to check efficiency and whatnot, but at least the basics will be covered. Next year I guess I'll have to call for my yearly service schedule in the summer before.

Very informative video. Thank you very much. I have a question; is it really possible that my Oil burner is using 100 liters of Oil every month, when i am only using it for hot water at home, i mean these 2 things: shower and hot water from faucet which is rarely, and showering is also not every Day. We are 2 grown ups showering every second/third Day, one of us uses minimal hot water (cold showets) To me it just sounds insane that it Can use that much, and we live in Denmark, 1500 liters of Oil cost 3600$ at the moment. So i did something which is probably a Big no go, But i put in normal diesel today instead of the recommended for the machine, is it a Big no go? I only did that because it is going to be replaced with a more green hearing option we have in Denmark. . And the Oil recommended is just too expensive when the machine is using that much. I would still love to hear your thoughts about the usage of the machine. . Thank you in advance

I do too-oil filter bowl that is. I change the strainer also...makes burner run that much more efficient and less strain on pump. How often do you check both pump pressure and pump cut-out along with cad cell safety cut-off time and transformer strength? You're very thorough...I'd work with you any day.

Why switch to gas? How many gas companies are there in your area to choose from to negotiate a better price? In my area it’s just ConEd , all the money to take out the boiler, oil tank , than running new gas line, upgrading meter bar and meter, and even more if you have to dig up from the street to tap into gas main So how long to recoup the money by switching over? The house your switching out is the insulation adequate, gas or oil if it’s not good how are you gonna save money either way?

Give her the joe ward special soot stick a year and on to the next one. And what are you spraying into the oil filter? Professor Joe Ward dumps a can of HOT into the tank . He does ALL his tuneups in a cap and gown. Professor Ward would fire you and strip you of your cap and gown in front of the customer

Hi, if I could ask advice, had heating oil delivered as I had run out. Was advised to turn off the boiler and allow the new oil time to settle which it has been allowed for about 8 hours. Turned the boiler via the control panel back on but for the last hour or two nothing has happened. Can anyone advise do I need to anything or will the timer turn on and things take their course? Thanks in advance 😊

Gawen Taylor I would hit the restart button, on or near the motor. If that doesn’t work, something else is wrong. Hitting the restart button, might not be the cure all. The unit might shut down again. Make sure the power is on. Let me know if you solved the problem.

I live in a 10 unit apartment building with one boiler for all the units. They put a new boiler in five years ago. Every year there’s been a problem with air getting Into the lines. They bleed the air out four times a year. My neighbor doesn’t have heat half of the winter. These amateurs call themselves professionals

Hi Micheal Based on your comment, I would guess you have convectors which has a bleeder on the convector top straight up. If I am correct try adding a float style bleeder to vent air automatically. This is not an install for a novice. Would like to know result of repair that corrected problem. Thank you. Eric

You should never use the bleed screw on the filter! Use the pump instead. The bleeder screw is a leak waiting to happen.
@jaepcam
@jaepcam 11 ай бұрын
No, it's not. Every new filter cartridge comes with a new bleeder screw washer. As long as you put some muscle into tightening the screw, there should not be an issue. Although I always bleed the entire line through the pump bleeder after changing the filter and strainer. But that's just the way I do it.
@riello2362
@riello2362 11 ай бұрын
@@jaepcam that’s what I mean. The integrity of the screw from putting muscle into it. Always gets over torqued. The really is the best way. Besides, I love the extra fuel that I pour back into my tank at home. 😂

Would be nice not to have to listen to that vacuum when I’m trying to listen to you. I will suggest a few things. They make a nozzle wrench, which is a internal and external socket with two handles that make it much easier. Those open end wrenches sometimes slip and you’ll then break your electrodes. I always changed electrodes every annual service, as I have seen some major puff backs due to hairline cracks and pits in the porcelain insulators. I didn’t see you check the nozzle pressure or check the pump cutoff pressure. Other than that I thought you did a very thorough service. That old boiler is running pretty efficiently. Good job and good attention to detail.

Hey rod Spoken like a true enthusiast, but I never cracked an electrode changing a nozzle in 40 years. Always hold wrenches 2 inches apart and squeeze with one hand. Try that and can’t crack electrode with such slight movement. Thank you. Eric
@oilburner9989
@oilburner9989 3 жыл бұрын
Those nozzle wrenches SUCK! They get dirt inside them and contaminate the nozzle orifice. Just more weight added to your tool bag. Nothing but a headache. I've been using 2 open end wrenches for 33 years and have never had them slip and never broke an electrode. You must not have hand-eye coordination.
