Oil Catch Can Install On 5.7 HEMI

Well, today I bought 36 inches of Fuel Line / PCV / EEC hose (0.5-inch internal diameter) to help me clear the engine shroud's front left edge. The supplied hose for my purchased oil catch can, running from the catch can to the PCV valve barb, was too short and would not clear the engine shroud cover. I simply connected the longer uncut length of hose to the PCV valve barb, replaced the engine shroud cover, and cut the appropriate length of hose as needed to clear the shroud and connect into the oil catch can. Job turned out great!

Why not run the hose under the bracket arm? Do the connections swivel on the can? think it would look better. Probably fit a little better. Thanks for the video.

You could definitely run the hoses like that if you wanted too. The fittings will turn some on the can but you would want to be careful not to strip them out by turning them to far. You’re welcome and thanks for watching and commenting.

Watching at the end I had a simple thought...why not run the hose under the arm instead of over the top? I think it would look cleaner and no need to Dremnel your cover. Unless it's a feed/pressure thing and instructions say to make sure over the top...myself I can't see the can or motor knowing the difference and I just think it would look better appearance wise. JMHO

Cars made from the 1950's to mid 1960's had a down draft tube from the crank case. You're just trying to equalize the pressure from the bottom end of the motor. Pulling a vacuum on the bottom end of the motor of course you're going to pickup oil. Just plug the intake feed, and route the hose from the crank case, to the rear, pointing down, some people put a small filter looking thing on the hose.

You are correct. A crankcase builds pressure and you have to relive that pressure so you don't risk blowing any seals. With emissions this is also one thing that they had to do so vehicles can meet them. You could always route a hose like you mentioned and put a small breather on a valve cover and that is a great option as well. Thanks for watching and commenting!

That is the factory's "crank case breather" that really doesn't do much.

You can get the same one that I installed in this video but just have it painted white. This is a very very nice quality catch can that I have been very impressed with.

That is a pair of hose cutter pliers. I believe you can get them at any auto parts store.

It collects and filters out the oil in the blow by “crank case pressure” and prevents it from going back into the intake side of the engine.

@@MeanBee392 I have a crankcase breather and oil cc and at idle I’m at like 31+ psi and then I hit it hard and I’ll be at like 62 psi. Did you notice a higher oil psi too?

If u would have ran the hoses in the other ports u wouldn't have to Dremel ur cover to get it to fit I would have ran the other way

It’s funny these guys can’t tolerate a little oil in the intake but don’t think twice about installing a cold air intake. The poor filtration on those literally allow abrasive materials to flow into the engine. But the oil! We have to stop the oil!!!
