Oil change BMW K75

Changing the oil and oilfilter of my BMW K75. This is the way how I do it. I'm sure there are some people who fill the oilfilter with oil before installing it. Do as you please ;-)

Remember to take the fill cap off first or you'll need to turn the bike upside down to replace the oil. :)

Wrong.. before you put the oilfilter back in place fil it up with new oil so you oilpump pumps directly oil in t he systeem and you have directly oil pressure and no damage on turning parts . Make a good film or an followup on it mind regard jhon k75

WRONG. There’s plenty of residual oil to lubricate parts even after you drain the reservoir. Full pressure is restored in just a few seconds so zero risk of damage. Ask any mechanic - not a necessary step

What do you think of after-market filters that have a hex head as part of the filter casing, so that no separate wrench is required? For example those sold by Volar Motorsport?///wonderful sound whenever it starts!

I use old oil just come out to lubricate oil filter new rubber ring seal. Less likely to stick. Also put new oil in new filter.Good video. Why Bmw got seal cover under filter?

No oil should be present when you take that cover off unless the filter is leaking, no?

Hi great video. How do you like the hiflo oil filter? Better than the BMW/ mahle filter? Have you tried the k & n oil filter?

Filter is fine. Never tried the K&N filter.

how much you paid for the oil ? API sf /cd are very old standards it's 8 euros for 5 liters here.... I don't know if you know but you can use nearly whatever you want in this bike. the engine is separated from the gearbox,so you can put car oil without problems. You can use 5w40 to 20w50 On a old bike i would use 20w50. You can have 5 liters for 15 euros with the ACEA A3/B4 norm wich is very good compared to the oil you use. Nice detailed video : )

That's very reasonable! You'd e lucky to find that value, in the uk ... Earlier this year, I paid around 18 GB£ for 4 litres of Mannoil 10w40 - and that's 'cheap'... Seen some engine oil advertised at around 30 Gb£ for 4 - 5 litres

awesome video! thanks so much. I'm having a bit of a problem with my k75 and was wondering if you had any thoughts. (I'm not a mechanic, just learning on my first project bike). Something is happening with the rear end of the bike. The back wheel feels "loose" and like it's slipping when I make turns. The wheel is connected correctly to the bike, and I am experiencing a "wobble" on the back end when making slight turns in the road. Any thoughts? Thanks again for the great videos

Hmm, sounds like a wheel bearing issue to me. Put the bike on its centerstand, grab the back wheel with both hands and try to wobble it. Can you feel any play? If yes, I suspect the wheelbearings. But I'm no mechanic, so maybe better take it to a garage.

@@BMWK75Rider Thanks for the tip! I don't feel any free play but it's hard to tell. I haven't been able to find a k bike mechanic in LA. Even BMW dealers out here don't want to touch these :(

Big mistake not filling up with fresh oil the new filter. One should top it up with oil before installing. You are teaching wrong here.

I was about to look it up in the Haynes manual, but I sold it recently since I no longer have the K75. The forums I looked at also don't agree: some say you have to top it up, others say it doesn't matter. I've never topped it up and had no problems afterwards. Remember that there will always be some oil left in the system. It's not that you're running the engine without any oil in it and also, it's only for a couple of seconds. Always a nice topic for any conversation at a motorcycle meetup ;-)

There is no way there can be any kind of vacuum that would be relieved by loosening the oil filler cap. That is just utter nonsense. The oil will drain just as fast with the filler cap tight.

No. You can actually see the oil start to drain faster the instant you remove the fill cap. It’s not a total vacuum but easy to see it restricts flow

@@drdrew3 its not a vacuum. Engines would not work well if there was. The oil will drain just fine with the cap on because there is a crank breather connected to the air intake. It will not win you even a single minute of time. What makes it flow is draining when the engine and oil are warmed up. Thats all that really matters.
