The whole team at Vaer was watching this video - super interesting (never seen it done before). Also, a quick disclaimer for any potential customers: filling your watch with oil is not covered under warranty! But definitely a cool premise for someone with the right tools/skills :)
@allthingsrandom8137 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, that’s true. I wouldn’t do it if you cared about the warranty. The Watch is built solid enough that I’m not worried about it. Thanks for stopping in guys, really appreciate it. Love the watch!

Such a cool idea. Love the look of the dial afterwards

Can you do this to any quartz dive watch? I have a Seiko solar dive chronograph rated to 200m, the long seconds hand is only used for the stop watch feature usually it just sits at 12 o'clock and normal time seconds are indicated by one of the chrono subdials. If i use the stop watch the long seconds hand sweeps around and if you stop the stopwatch and reset to zero the seconds hand sweeps really quickly back to 12 o'clock, I wonder what effect the oil viscosity will have when the movement sweeps the seconds hand back to 12 o'clock really fast?
@allthingsrandom81373 ай бұрын
Yes you can. As long as the viscosity is correct, it doesn’t affect the speed of the movement.

Looking at that very tempting to try it on a Citzen Eco drive screw down back. Tempted to try that mod very excellent demonstration. Like a sergeant!

Outstanding as always I don't think that I'll be leaving the spring bars on for easier cleanup and yes I've also used the incorrect oil as well but it was on my first attempt the reminder is greatly appreciated my friend It looks amazing by the way I'm just waiting on the new crystal to proceed Be well and Stay Frosty 👍

Angry that I can't do this on my Seiko SLA071 Landmaster! Beautiful job. Makes me want to try on a Seiko Tuna Quartz.

I got a U-Boat Darkmoon quartz movement watch for Christmas which looks amazing with factory-installed oil filled dial. I'm sure that the main reason for this is for the aesthetic appearance which is amazing with my Darkmoon. I'm wondering if there are any other benefits to having the watch being oil filled. Will the quartz movement last longer having been submersed in oil?
@allthingsrandom813718 күн бұрын
The main benefit is the fact that the water resistance rating is exponentially increased because the density of the oil is much more than water

Wonderful video ... can this be done on an automatic ? If yes, I might try it on my Cadisen that's arriving soon ...
@allthingsrandom813711 ай бұрын
As long as it’s quartz it can be done. No mechanical
@Theflyguy5228 ай бұрын
Sinn have been doing this for years with their hydro watch. And that’s got a HAQ eta thermo compensated movement. Very well done, you did a good job on that 👍

What style watches can you do this to? G Shock, Seiko, Invicta?
@allthingsrandom81372 ай бұрын
Quartz and solar only. Make sure it has at least 50 meters of water resistance
@hrvojebartulovic78702 ай бұрын
Hey, water is not thicker than oil! 😉 Otherwise it would sink in the water, but it floats on it! (It's only more viscous but it's s completely different thing.)
@allthingsrandom81372 ай бұрын
OK, you’re right misspoken. It has a higher level viscosity which repels water.

@allthingsrandom8137 I'm sorry - I didn't thank you; I'm in the process of buying Casio Duro and I plan to follow your advice and procedure, so... Thanks a bunch!!!

Should there be a small air bubble for expansion/contraction? I have a Uboat darkmoon and it has a small bubble in it.
@allthingsrandom8137 Жыл бұрын
I mention that in the video. That I do not want a small air bubble. I don’t plan on diving deep enough that there’s ever going to be a need to expand the liquid inside and fill that gap to not pop the crystal off. So to me it’s a non-issue

@@allthingsrandom8137 Lets hope it will not pop in the airplane. Already happend to me once (watch without oil luckily) :D

What about mineral oil? Way easier cleanup. The "forever chemicals" in that silicone oil make me nervous.

What if you want to reverse this process? How do you properly remove all the oil?

What a pain that you'll have to do it again! It's a messy job, well done for doing it on camera so apparently easily. Can you report back in a year to tell us how it is going?
@allthingsrandom8137 Жыл бұрын
Of course!
@michaelhalstead643410 ай бұрын
Could you just pull the crown out and let the air escape and fill the oil that way?
@allthingsrandom813710 ай бұрын
Nope. The internal gasket wouldn’t allow it, plus there will still be bubbles inside if not done properly
@nolindanushka51716 ай бұрын
Will this oil damage the movement??
@allthingsrandom81376 ай бұрын
No, the oil is thin enough to not effect the time keeping and the oil is non-conductive
@EmilmarchАй бұрын
what do you mean by "you don't have to replace the battery because it is solar"? it has a capacitor charged by the light and it also has a life span roughly around 10 yrs just like most Casio watches have 10 yrs battery life. in that sense no different but please stop saying "you don't have to replace" yes, you do, just not frequent like a battery every 2-3 yrs.
@OmicronTauKappaClassicDaddy18 күн бұрын
The Citizen Eco-Drive diver that I have has lasted me almost 20 years and I have not replaced the capacitor on it yet. That's just my own experience of course, but I think it is also notable that the watch crystal was damaged in a bike wreck and it's still going strong. I should really buy another one someday but for now this one always goes with me on my bike rides.
