Oil & filter Change - 2010 Toyota RAV4, 3rd Generation, 2.5l 4-cyl motor

2010 Toyota RAV4 with 2.5l 4-cylinder motor.
Oil & filter change - Tools needed:
14mm socket for oil drain plug
64mm socket for oil filter housing
4-3/4 quarts 5W-20
Fram oil filter = TG9972, or WIX oil filter = 57047
2006-2015 TOYOTA RAV4 MAINT REQ INDICATOR LIGHT RESET
Turn the ignition switch to the “On” position, but do not start the engine
If your car has START push-button , press the “Start” without touching the brake pedal.
Press the odometer button (for 2006-2012 models), or DISP button (2013-2015) on steering wheel until you see “TRIP A” on the little screen
Next, turn the ignition “off”
Press and hold the Odometer / DISP button, and turn the ignition switch to the “On” position
If your car has START push-button , press the “Start” twice without touching the brake pedal.
Continue to hold down the Trip Odometer Reset button until “000000” MILES appears on the display and the maintenance light turns off.

So, you do not fill the oil filter canister with oil before replacing? Also, I noticed today that the interior of the canister is spring loaded, so it's important to note that there is more resistance to screwing it on once it reaches that point of the threading.

Hello! FYI, we sold the RAV4 recently because it started to burn/use oil at 200,000 miles. This is with 5,000 mile oil change intervals. I couldn't figure out a way to add oil to the canister during an oil change. Easy with a spin-oil filter which I do on the new vehicle. I agree about the spring in the canister, I always felt like I was over-tightening the canister, and would break the plastic. Take care!
