OIL INJECTION DELETE: MERCURY 175 XR

I made a movie showing how I deleted the problematic oil injection system on our 2001 Mercury 175 XR jet drive power head. This comes highly recommended to do. I've heard of many cases in which the oil pump or lines encounter failures and subsequent engine failure with little to no warning to the operator.

Yeah I'm so confused too. I have oil injection and it's kept everything inside the engine like new. Just baffled as to why you'd remove it?

@@fkingbear1834 On motors that have a plastic gear on the crankshaft that drives the oil pump... those are the ones that suprise - suddenly you have no oil pump and your motor grenades without warning. My oil injection worked fine, its the unreliability of the components that I didn't want to risk. I've heard enough stories of oil starvation. Premixing/deleting the pump ensures you will not have issues with this.

Plastic gear IS something I understand wanting to remove and I happen to be a machinist so If I can't actually come up with a solution I may follow your suit brother. you should have removed the engine oiltank and sensor above the oil pump . Also , you should have put 24C grease on the orings before installing and blue locktite on the 2 bolt threads .

I haven’t had any trouble with what I’ve done thus far. I’m a fan of loc tite but the bolts are still tight. I left the oil tank so I wouldn’t need to fiddle with the oil level warning. It’s just how I did it myself you can remove yours if you like, both ways work.

On your delete kit did everything work for you? Just wondering why you didn't delete the big tank on the floor? What did you mix your fuel/ oil ratio? Thanks for the info.

Why did you delete the injection the updated version with the brass bushing doesn't have the problem stripping the nylon gear inside the crankcase that was pre-1996 motors

I'm a member of the sugar sand group on Facebook. I was seeing several posts per week of guys seizing their engines due to oil starvation for one cause or another. Its not only the unreliable oil pump gear, the whole system can be problematic and there is no warning until its too late. Premixing for me was the way to go.

Thanks for the great information! Just bought a Boston Whaler with the same engine and the previous owner has already blocked off the oil. However, the engine is doing the oil warning beep every 2 minutes. there is some oil in my reservoir but not a whole lot. Would the beeping stop if I filled up the reservoir more or do I need to cut some wires to the buzzer?

Probably either way. Not sure if the level sensor activates or deactivates open or closed - you could figure that out easily enough. Otherwise you could just fill it with oil and call it good! Thanks for the comment and cheers!

Underneath your starter there is a brass fitting with a hose coming off it. Is that part of the oil injection? Reason I’m asking I have the same on my boat and it’s been deleted but that hose has crankcase pressure that is releasing from it. I’m hearing a hissing/ticking noise from it.

I would inspect the line because it ideally should not be leaking. If its the line that was used to deliver crank case pressure to the oil tank originally there will normally be pressure wanting to escape there. Be sure it is adequately capped off.

How did you stop the oil pump sensor from beeping. Looking at deleting my injection but I’ve read you need to snip one of the wires that alert you when the oil pump isn’t working.

He left his oil tank in place and full of oil so that the sending unit does not send an alarm voltage back to the buzzer.

Psycho Cichlids no problems afterward. I just premixed the fuel to be 50:1 mixture and off we went. Don’t forget to hit like if it was helpful! Consider subscribing also I’ll have more videos!

you should have removed the engine oil tank ! do the 3plugs and drain the line between fuel pump and the connection , so mixed fuel will need to be replaeted ?

great video, what happens if you cap off all oil lines and mix it with the gas. do you still need to remove the oil pump rod?

YES. If you don’t that pump is still moving and doing it’s thing (if the drive gear doesn’t fail)… it’s best to delete it and cap off.

I really don’t remember. I believe I found them at Lowe’s or a hardware store. Just about anything that plugs off the lines will do.
