This is the best information I have ever seen covering fuel Nozzles. Interestingly enough, last week I tried to help my colleague who uses a torpedo heater for this industrial workshop and since in my country I could not find a replacement for the Nozzle, I decided to pack enough courage and dismantle it, and believe me it was a great experience to go through all that. What I saw in the nozzle last week is so well explained in this video I was surprised that even with all the good filtering that goes before the fuel gets at the last sintered filter, even after the sintered filter I found a lot of debris that clogged the almost radial paths into the turbo space before exiting the final orifice in the flat disc with the swirl chamber at the back. Thank you for this video as when last week I handled the unit I was rather naive at the design of a nozzle, your information about hollow and solid spraying was welcome to appreciate the real magic of such a little unit that many do not look after with the respect it deserves. Both the static and the dynamics of a nozzle are really some of the best engineering designs that exist. Thank you for this very valuable presentation.

I have a Burnham with a Reillo burner installed in 1997 . It has been serviced but this time I did it . I noticed two different size nozzles had been used at various times by the service company . I spoke with Riello and was told they were both undersized . Could they have shortened the life of the boiler ? There is now a small crack and it loses pressure and shuts down . I realize there many variables .

Great details of oil nozzles. I like it! Where are the nozzle specifications usually displayed? I looked at my burner (Becket) and don't see the nozzle size and shape/pattern listed on the burner. When the maintenance guy came in he didn't know either. All he did was looking at the nozzle itself and replaced with the same size and shape/pattern. I think this could lead to poor performance when/if the previous guy had put in an incorrect nozzle.

So how do you get the air out of the nozzle line to stop the after-burn dripping?

This is great. I agree with more efficient use of oil. What if we pre heat the nozzle/delivery tube let's say by inductve heating? How about an EGR system like in cars/diesel trucks?

Thank you for this. I'm a little confused by the term rich. At 32:22 you talk about it and say too much air and little oil is a rich state. I always thought it is the oposite ? Is rich refering to too much air then ? Thanks for your verry informative video!

Yes. What we are talking about is the oil to air mixture is to saturated with air and will not burn correctly.

Great video but how do you get the air out of the nozzle tube? Is this one a one pipe system or two pipe.

This is best explanation about nozzle on internet, thank you, i have a question, my old furnace is New Yorker model;(NY151 ), and the burner is F-AF Beckett burner, everything works good , but soot's more often then supposed to get, on my furnace say i use 1.10/1.35 , 60/80 nozzle, and i think is B type nozzle, but the B is hard to see , a little scratches on the plate, anyway i have been using 1.10/80, or 1.10/70 W nozzle,( W; all purpose) what do you think , can you check it and let me know. Again my furnace works good heats good, the only problem is i have to clean it from soot, more often then should, i think my nozzle should be B, not W type, also maybe i don't have enough air going in !Note: my oil tank is outside in the cold , and i might have nozzle after -drip problem, but i don't smell any smoke or oil at all.
