Hahahaha, Same exakt thing here 😂😂😂😂i just spit out my coffee, couldn’t believe it. I’m just starting with oils. And the fumes of the Terpentine bother me that much, and I can’t get some things here in Germany you use there, so I just found schmincke medium w. Hope I can go on now.
@redangrybird75642 жыл бұрын
@@ceedee743 don't use turpentine, use odourless mineral spirits from an art shop; or even better, use water soluble oils.

Love this video! I challenged myself a few years ago to only buy the primary colors and mix from that. I've spent the last 5 years working with only primaries and it's developed my color mixing skill so much! But there is still so much I can learn, and i always find your videos when I need a quick guide. Thank you for all your work and knowledge!

I am an amateur painter and have no desire to ever be anything more. I do it for fun and don't want to turn it into work like a professional. With that being said and make no mistake I do want get better and always learn new stuff. I have watched quite a few of your videos and like them very much and intend to watch the rest of them. I like the way you seem to cut through the difficulties and complexities and explain things in a manner even I can understand :-) And aren't afraid to share the areas of struggle. Thank you for your hard work in making these videos. Don't think they are not appreciated, I do appreciate them.

I wish I saw this when I decided to get into art and digital paint back in 2020. It would have saved me a lot of time. I like using the mixing pad instead of color picking or color wheel. I still had a job at the time lol. I didn't find this channel until they cut us all and I started searching like June or July. I thank you for expanding my art skills. It gave me something to look forward to when everything else looked bleak.

I’m in the middle of painting a portrait which is going rather well considering that I’m a landscape painter, but I cannot for the life of me mix a proper skin tone! Even using the primary’s, they’re all turning out too gray and dull. I have a rather tan and warm complexion, and my portrait is missing that spark of life in the skin. This video really helped a lot. I always come to your channel only when I need tips. I love how you don’t have a 3 minute long intro and how you don’t go on rants about other shit, you’re just straight to the point and extremely easy to understand. Keep doing what you’re doing, you’ve helped me improve a lot! Sending love from Canada❤️

I know this video came out 3 years ago, but I have a question and I'm struggling to find the answer. How do I lighten or darken the value of an oil paint mixed color without changing the color too much? Just the value, not the color so much. Is it possible? If it's a stupid question, know that I haven't worked with color hardly at all. I've made 2 still life paintings and one self portrait painting but I really messed up the colors and values in it. I know I jumped into a complicated portrait too quick, but I figure I can look back in a few months and see the progress I have made if I become discouraged. I try to avoid using black whenever I can, but is it okay to use it in a color mixture? Can I use black to darken a shade without making to colors off? My main goal is to be able to produce simplified landscapes and portraits alla prima method because I'm impatient.
