Robert....a good way to clean the pan and the underside of the engine is to use oven cleaner and then follow that up with a final wash of kerosene and/or brake cleaner. The oven cleaner will immediately dissolve ALL of the sludge and golden stain on the block, crank, etc. caused by the oil. The oven cleaner WILL discolor the aluminum so I paint the outside of the pan with black rocker guard paint. However, the oil pickup tube will literally look brand new as the oven cleaner does not discolor steel. When painted with the rocker guard paint, the pan looks great and resembles an ABS plastic pan. The "leap of faith" aspect of the oven cleaner is that I also use a garden hose with a sprayer end to thoroughly wash off the oven cleaner....even douching the inside of the block, crank, rods, etc.. To minimize the surface rust that will form on the rods and cylinder sleeves, I spray everything down with PB Blaster. I then ultimately fill with dino oil, run the engine for about 15 minutes without a load (idle and some throttle revs) to circulate and emulsify any remaining water, oven cleaner residue and PB Blaster. Then a final synthetic oil change and filter completes the job. Let me know if you want me to email you photos. It's pretty impressive as respects the super clean result.

I did this job on my 1998 S70 - I find it interesting that everything looks similar - the lines that have to be pulled out of the way, the bracket that needs to be bent slightly. Raising the engine a bit. All the same. Yes, the sealant goes on the pan, not the block. You couldn't get it on the block very easily with a roller. Age is fine for the sealant, as long as there is air in the tube. I also was concerned about the round seals staying in place - I used something sticky can't recall what.

Not sure how I can help you with that from where I am. It came off... If you can't figure it out, you probably will need to have it towed to a Volvo mechanic.
@donmoore7785 Жыл бұрын
It can be tricky because the pickup has to go in at the right angle or it gets hung up. If this happens to someone, just hang in there, be patient, and try different angles of raising the pan to the block. You may have noticed it got hung up when dropping the pan until you got it at the right angle. At Robert says - it came off, so it WILL go back on. It can be a little nerve racking, but remember there is no rush since the sealant will not cure until there is no air (until it is against the block).

I tried to brush it out from the outside (old PCV casing removed) (using a vacuum cleaner trying to prevent that hardened oil parts to fall into the pan, but I really do not know if I got all of the sludge out till the bottom because the wirebrush did not reach as far or was blocked somehow.
