OIL PRESSURE SENDER 2001-2007 DODGE CARAVAN GRAND CARAVAN TOWN AND COUNTRY

Replacement of the oil pressure sender (AKA oil pressure switch) that turns on the check oil light in your dash. After the factory unit failed, I replaced the sensor 3 times, and each one leaked oil. This was likely due to the fact that I used a normal socket to install it. In this video I used a socket specifically made for installing the oil pressure switch. I am happy to say it has been about a year now and the sensor is functioning perfectly with no leaks.
FYI: I sprayed out the plug with electronics cleaner/degreaser available at hardware stores, auto parts stores, Walmart etc.
Also it is not necessary to change your oil to do this repair, but you may find it easier to have the oil filter out of your way. When you remove the sensor, expect a certain amount of oil to drain out of the hole.

I'm amazed you even get that much light from the top onto the oil filter housing; it's just a dark vertical cave every time I change my filter. Is this motor the 3.8 like mine or a 3.3?

Awesome Video, One of the Best Descriptions. My problem was start van, oil light stays on, but oil level good. Turn van off and restart, light stays off. Research shows probably OPS since it's been 100,000 miles on last OPS. Started to buy a cheap one off Amaz, but saw your great vid and went with Rock as usual and also bought the socket. No sense in skimping, DIY cheaper than a shop.

Have same problem and replaced switch but did not solve problem. Light ON with first engine start but goes OFF on immediate engine restart. Light stays OFF as long as engine is running. Problem repeats if engine is stopped for a bit.

@@heliandmedid you resolve the issue. I am having exact same problem even after changing the sensor. I suspect sensor too since “ new one” from Mopar online came in a zipper bag without a box.

@@icelandic_mughal2223 Never did resolve the problem, even with new dealer sensor. Now I just check oil level manually and temp gauge to see if the engine is ok. Decided to just live with it. I think the problem is in the computer system, but the van is 20 years old with only 130,000 Km and runs fine, so let it be, I guess.

@@heliandme thanks for immediate response. I dealt with this issue in 2010 for 2006. Dodge grand caravan. The mechanic changed something that looked the pressure oil sensor and he did it while van on the ground and him arm length in near the radiator. I cannot recall what it was called. But it was definitely not pressure sensor. It was “relay … “something. That change solved the issue immediately for a number of years. Now I am in the same predicament The shop just changed the sensor without success. If only I could recall what that thing was that was replaced years ago….

Did the NGK sensor work well? Any issues with it afterwards? Later on? And do you have the part number or link for the power guilt socket? Or the NGK sensor? I have a 2007 dodge grand caravan SXT

This is a 3.6. I'm not familiar with the 2.4 but I think it's the same sensor, so the special socket rule applies. Thanks!

Did you really have to tighten after a hot cycle? If so, by how much?

Did, I say so? It's been so long I don't remember. Best practice would be to run the engine until warm (not hot), then do the repair. If it doesn't leak you're good.

It could be a simple exhaust leak or it could be something serious that will destroy your engine, you really need to find the cause.
