If you get a new sensor make sure you get the Motorcraft part #sw-8368 . Supposedly if you get a China cheaper switch it will fail often but the Ford part works better. Also make sure you clean the inside of the connection with electronic spray before clipping back or you'll still have problems with it.

I think i watched all these related vids on utube and they helped. My 2012 F150 5.0 2wd started doing this at every red light or when the rpm was under 1200. I do have 238k on the engine and this is the first time i ran into this issue... i saw most folks have this problem with far less milage than mine. The sensor got changed, it was leaking anyway ... lots of driving to do this week so i will find out if this helped soon enough. Truck runs great so i am trying to nurse it another yr or 2. I was told my oil pressure is 15 psi but i do not know what it is normal.
@jlrandom4410 Жыл бұрын
I'm glad you are able to get some help out of the videos. It sounds like you are doing something right if your truck is still running decent with that mileage. I can not recall the proper oil pressure, but 15 seems low though.
@andrews7911 Жыл бұрын
@@jlrandom4410 I did find some info on the oil pressure and it gave a range which i can't recall atm... and while 15 psi was on the lower end it was still ok and nothing to raise the alarm about. I drove the truck all day today and did not get the low pressure indicator at all. I really have had good luck with both my F150s (2005 & 2012) but i usually get a new truck around 180k... decided to keep this one longer and so far it has been great. Just a water pump and thermostat last year and now this sensor. Can't complain at all, this has been a good truck.

Thank you for the video What number of socket did you use for it?
@jlrandom44103 жыл бұрын
Hi Carlos, sorry for the late reply! I assume you already have changed your sensor, I actually do not recall what size I used. But in future, you can get the new part and figure out the size with it.

Wouldn’t you disconnect the positive from battery? Seems the negative only would still allow you to short to ground with your wrench?

What size socket did you use? Also was it 12 or 6 point? And when you used pliers to unplug the wire harness/clip did you just pull on it? Thanks for the video

Did my 2011 5.0 today, using your technique. Put in a new Motorcraft unit; SW8368. Worked well, thank you. The only thing I’m wondering about is if I really solved the issue, cause my old one was dry and inside the cap, it was dry too, no oil. Hmmm. Do they ever fail without having oil leaking?
@jlrandom44102 жыл бұрын
I'm glad the video help you out! As for solving the issue; one can only hope lol. It is hard to know for sure, but could be I would think that it has the ability to fail from a few different reasons.

@@jlrandom4410 Would be interesting to know what pressure the OEM switch opens and closes at, in comparison to what pressure a healthy engine puts out at idle, or slightly low idle... Just odd how the oil light was (and most other reports from people) only going on when the engine was hot and only at idle... Makes me wonder if a dirty throttle body, the 5w-20 oil, or a number of things could contribute to it...
@busnorth2 жыл бұрын
My oil pressure just dropped at idle. Scared the shit out of me all that alarms. Touch the gas and it came up until back at idle, but no oill starvation engine noise. The good part of my bad day. So I now had get to work on this. SO THANKS as I didn't even know where to look for the sending unit.
@dginta79322 жыл бұрын
@@busnorth Cut a piece of tubing that will fit over the new sender, so it gives you something to hold onto and it will help you turn it into the block threads. I cut a piece about 2”-3” long. Once you have it turned in finger tight, just pull it off. The idea about the 13/16” spark plug socket and open end wrench worked great, because generally there isn’t enough room for a socket and ratchet. Keep us posted! My suggestions would be: Use a Motorcraft replacement, use contact cleaner to ensure the electrical clip/cap is clean, and have a few different tools (13/16” and 21 mm sockets and wrenches available). For some odd reason, the 13/16” socket that took the old unit out wouldn’t fit the new unit properly. Luckily I had about four different 13/16” spark plug sockets to choose from. The electrical side of the plug can hinder how far or if the plug will fit a spark plug wrench.

My 2011 have 650000 km on it and it start to have this problem. I took my truck to the shop and told them to have the sensor changed. Charged me 280 canadian. When I take my turck, the problem seem solved but after 10 minutes drive, the warning light came back on when rpm under 1000. I wait the next morning and drive for maybe 50 km and the warning light came back on once and quickly get back to normal. I wait for next day and drive it and no more warning light since.

Please make sure you undo your battery when you do this you will have to under your alternator wire to get to it I did this on my dad's 2013 F150 it's a pain in the butt use a 5/8 spark plug socket where you can put a 7/8 wrench on it to undo it having your alternator wire undone you can barely get your hand down in there to start the new threads on the new sensor this is not an easy job Please be aware of that
