The can-do attitude when you face problems and making it a point to learn a new skill is an amazing trait. I was expecting you to outsource to someone else but no, you went in headfirst to take up the challenge. Might be a DIY car show but I’ve just picked up life skills from you. Thanks Jeff🙏🏽. Amazing as always.

The issue of the car pulling in one direction under acceleration, and the opposite direction under decceleration could also be the result of different coilover spring tension. If it didnt, do it before the engine swap, and does it under a reasonable light or moderate load, checking the weight of the car at the four wheels and adjusting the coilover height at a corner may just be the easiest fix.

Most impressed by that adaptor, most impressed! Apart from allowing track hooning with a wet sump, I've always thought pre-oilers are just a a good idea to have on expensive or high performance engines (I'd even use a coolant pre-heater in cold weather as well).

Hi Jeff great episode. I do a lot of work on 986 and 987 cars. I noticed you left the aluminum plate off and I could not tell if you left the center support off .both of those are vital in reinforcing the rear suspension arms by stiffening the lower part of the suspension cradle. You can substitute the pan with a stiff ros on the back of the cradle. If you want more info contact me

We use these in heavy industry on equipment. Make sure you fully understand the pressure needed on the air side. We have had equipment fail due to operators not understanding the concept and adding the wrong pressure.

Love your series. But an oil accumulator will not pre-pressurize your engine on startup. It will only send extra oil in your sump. Keep up the good work!
@wa.gtrsoul

Fantastic project. The only doubt I have is about the air inlet. It seems to be in the engine bay receiving hot air.
@scblue01
@scblue01 2 жыл бұрын
Would've been great if you'd been able to locate the accumulator in the engine bay, the prospect of an oil union or hose failing inside the cabin is not great. Maybe fit a shield that would prevent any oil spray, plus a few drain holes in the floor? Yeah, I know it'll never happen, but just in case. Unions and hoses have failed in the past.

When i had trouble with a "jelly-wobble" know and then at the rear-end of my E46 BMW, i immediately thought the same as you did. Probably some kind of suspension issue. But, weirdly enough, it turned out to be the differential taking it's last breathes. I don't know that that's the issue here, but if you can't find any other issues it might be a good idea to have a quick look in the diff.
@jakebaldwin3816

Nice work mate, it may be worth looking into adding a check valve on the oil line leading out of the engine block, when the accumulator triggers and pushes all the oil towards the engine there is potential for it to disrupt the flow of the oil by trying to force oil backwards through the system. In theory with your fittings setup the way they are it may not be an issue, but something worth considering none the less.

You should get an electric valve for the accumulator that you control by the ECU when the oil pressure goes a certain value, like 1 or 2 bar. Othervise you will fill up the crankcase with a lot of oil when you natuarly have less pressure att lower rpms, like going through a slow corner.

Accusump sell a solenoid valve that is simply wired to the ignition doing away with the need to open and close the reserve tank on start up and shutdown. You can buy the same valve as a standard hydraulic fitting for a lot less. My experience with one of these tanks on a race car is that they are at best a band-aid. You really need to baffle the sump pan and try to enclose the oil pickup in a feed well.@@HomeBuiltByJeff

I suggest a Bowden cable strung up near the kill switch that you pull out to turn off the valve. This may be something or nothing but there’s a chance that any pressure from the accusump could just get dumped into the main sump if you pick the wrong place to plumb it. This depends on the bypass system etc on the pump and filter housing. Also put a shield over the oil lines in the cabin to prevent getting sprayed.
@Euroburger
@Euroburger 2 жыл бұрын
That valve is right in front of the accusump, once closed the accusump is completely "disconnected" from the oil circuit. So the pressure can't bleed out.
@anomamos9095
@anomamos9095 2 жыл бұрын
@@Euroburger not the problem I was talking about. Engines have oil bypass systems that engage when something is blocked or an over pressure occurs. They are usually in the filter, near the filter and in the oil pump and sometimes near the cam journals depending on the design of the oil system. There is a minor possibility that the accusump could back flow one of these bypasses and just feed straight to the sump instead of the engine WHILE ITS RUNNING. Or make trying to pre oil a cold engine pointless. It’s a minor possibility but not impossible.

If you can't find a mechanical problem causing the twitching, look into Gyroscopic Precession. When the drag racers went to rear engines they where having trouble keeping their cars straight. I think Big Daddy Don Garlits was the first to find the solution. However, I can't help you with the solution. If I ever knew what they did, I have forgotten now.

2:58, watching at 2x speed looks like the left lower arm mooves a bit, and it seems like the wheel "steers" a degree or so... could it be the rubber bushing?
@motomenace86
@motomenace86 2 жыл бұрын
The pulling issues can only be geometry, or tourqe steer. Given u think its also on the brakes its not tourqe steer. Id almost guess its a type of bump steer from ride height/corner weight. With the oil filter adapter why didnt you just change to a different oil filter?.
@neilmchardy9061

The gearbox is definitely torquing down under load when driving. Would a cross support between the suspension towers stiffen things up a bit? Also a safety solenoid on the accusump outlet would stop any oil spray in event of an “incident” wired to the cut off.

Jeff you are not using the factory aluminum sheet underplate/brace that connect the left and right chassis parts of the boxster. For me this is not right and potentially dangerous because the vertical cast aluminum parts and their connections to the body are not up to the task in bending stress.

I was wondering why you would need the T fitting and 2 hoses rather then 1 hose and a plug? I saw the text screen with the bit about one way valves, but it seems like that would block pressure one way or the other. Oddly enough on Roadkill garage they added a similar system but that kit came with a single port sandwich plate. Either way it will be interesting to see what you figure out. I'm always impressed with what you come up with.

I once worked on a vehicle that seemed to squirm around oddly at the rear under acceleration and braking. Everyone who had looked at it before had replaced all the possible faulty bushes etc etc both front and rear but the problem wouldn’t go away. At first I joked saying a can of gas and a match would be the best way to fix it as the vehicle was a badly done cut and shut where two wrecked vehicles were made into one. And it was a really really bad job that I have no clue how it passed any registration inspection if it ever had one. Short of writing the vehicle off my preferred option was getting another wreck and doing it properly. As it was a classic car the owner chose that option.

Half assing a cut and shut really doesn’t seem like a logical move, do they really save themselves much effort when they have to slap loads of filler in to hide them just seam welding things together randomly? Unpick the damned spot welds and reassemble the two halves properly.

@@Jonathan_Doe_ I watch Vechor as he does a lot of salvage rebuilds on his channel and occasionally gets vehicles at auction that have been repaired previously by retarded drunken five year olds. And he wants to find them and repair them the same way. The unfortunate answer is yes it often is worth the effort of slapping on bog instead of doing it properly as long as you can get away with it.
