Amazing Video. I've NEVER Seen anyone open up the motor and Lubricate it like you did !

Regular Maintenance would prevent future unforseen issues. It will always break when you need the most. These little upkeep would keep your machine running.

Great video. I was told some a/c fan motor need oil while oil through the side hole while other is sealed and don't need oil. My is Genteq HC39GE37 or 3905. Does this motor need oil? I never oil it in the past 30 years. Thanks for the information and video.
@tonedubb43252 жыл бұрын
The oil will dry up. The spongy material holds oil would eventually klomp up. Then you motor shaft would heat up and fail. One of those motor would cost couple hundred dollars. Sometimes you can't even find the right motor for it. Maybe a generic one with similar specs. Recommend add oil. Only cost you a couple dollars. Your AC will most likely fail during hot months you are running it. Now, you got no AC and everyone is pissed off. Recommend you have some spare capacitors for your AC as well. They don't cost you much. If the AC needs to come out, it'll break your wallet.

@@tonedubb4325 Thanks so much for your recommendation. It scared me when it first started with squealing noise but now no more and run great but I think the motor eventually need to be oil or replaced. I will try to oil it when the weather is much cooler. I don't want to break it on a hot day; otherwise, as you say, everyone is pissed at me because I "touch" it. 😂 Thanks again.

Thanks for such a helpful video. We have this motor 12Y65 Fan Motor for Lennox and is making loud noise. No issues with AC running, everything seems to be normal. Would lubricating like this can help in terms of reducing the noise and increasing the life of the motor?

If from the motor, you should inspect and oil it asap. Motor is expensive.

I have the same motor but it has oil ports on both ends with a yellow oil plugs. It is probably an older model. Made in 1992.
@tonedubb4325 Жыл бұрын
Probably just plugs to keep dirt out.
@urapigg2 Жыл бұрын
I watch somebody pull those oil plugs and put about 20 drops in each oil port, then reseal. even put some around shaft a few times and slowly turn to lubricate. That was a every-other-year maintenance deal he did. Can't remember how old the motor was.

The "felt" might acually not be felt at all. It could be something called Permawick. If I recall correctly its a mix of sawdust and some other things plus 20w non detergent oil. So it never was a single piece of something in the first place
@tonedubb4325 Жыл бұрын
Really ... sawdust? mines were some kinds felt like material not sawdust. Maybe asbestos. Lol.
@rikityrik2 ай бұрын
@@tonedubb4325when I opened mine up the that was the first thing I thought too. “ASBESTOS” lol. I’ve been researching and searching for what this stuff is and I think the product is actually “Permawick” Was wanting to get some cause I had to load it mine with the inappropriate oil to get me by for correct parts to arrive but can’t find anything!!!

Do you know how its called that material ? I need to replace mine because i stupidly added car motor oil and now my house smell like a junk yard
@tonedubb43252 жыл бұрын
I did a little search. It's felt. I see people said wick felt would work. Or even cotton. Try absord the motor with a towel. Get a much as you can then apply 3in1 oil. I don't think the excess motor would do any harm to it. It's a lubrication.

What did you end up using to replace it? I’m in the same boat! Been looking for some type of loose felt fill or wadding but can’t even find anything that looks like it’d work.

With the lubricated material, probably has a bushing instead of a bearing.
@tonedubb4325 Жыл бұрын
Yup. There's no bearing. Just some felt material that requires lube from time to time.

Shoud have two small holes for lubrication...

This type motor should be lubricated with 20 wt nondetergent motor oil.
@tonedubb4325 Жыл бұрын
Home AC Fan motors. there may have 2-3 motors. Stand alone floor fan, swamp cooler etc.
@Garth2011 Жыл бұрын
Yes, I read that too someplace that these sleeve bearing motors with the packing material should be oiled with 20w nondetergent.
@gregorymalchuk2724 ай бұрын
A lot of stuff labeled "non detergent" motor oil isn't good for anything. Is has no additives. If it's clear, it's no good. And motor oil is too thick. 10 weight is what is normal electric motor oil. I think automatic transmission fluid, hydraulic oil, or power steering oil is a better match for bearings.
