I just set my valves cold (70°) for 0.008 and 0.010.... is that too loose for a stock engine (1973) ? Engine only has 32.000 miles on it and when I checked the valves were a consistent 0.002 looser than that at 0.010 and 0.012. Previous owner had gotten it running from barn find status but it bent 2 pushrods due to the old fuel. I'm going through it now (since I bought it) to get it running correctly. AND how can I get one of those valve cover load spreaders? I am trying to Slant Daily as well!

.006 .008 rockers shouldn't be noisy sounds like they are loose.

@larrygillley4882 The cam profiles are hydraulic masters. They make noise until they are warmed up. I like hydraulic profiles for slant sixs because they are much faster off the seat than solids. This gives more area under the curve under.

I run a lighter oil during the cold months . I'll have to find a valve cover off and old junk slant6 and cut the top off to do the lash .im use to turning the rpms down real low after fully warmed up to adjust lash. with the factory cam should I stay at factory setting or go a notch or 2 tighter on the lash?

I would like to know what the vantage of having a cam with hydraulic profile and running solid lifters?

Believe it or not that Hydraulic profiles are typically fast off the seat till about 0.150" to 0.200" lobe lift. That is about 0.225" - 0.300" at valve lift with a 1.5 rocker arm. The slant six head is with in 85% of it max CFM by 0.300" valve lift and this way I can take advantage of this airflow faster. The Slant Six is a low lift type of head so I can get there much faster with that type of profile.

@@vernrosenburg5410 Not necessarily because most LA rockers are non adjustable. But if you currently have a solid lifter set up with adjustable rockers and this is a street style hotrod "Not a racecar engine" then yes you would see a little benefit but not worth all the change for what little you get from it for your setup. It really is for engines that are primarily setup for solid lifters.

It is SO weird to see such a clean sl/6 rocker assembly working like that. Usually sl/6's are a black sludgy mess.
