What a brilliant concept. I saw Outline in Sydney in 1980 and on that night they were the best band in the world.

I dunno about that. The Oils were/are one of the greatest live acts around. They've had more than one night at the top. This was a great example, but by no means the only one.

The masterful Jim Moginie quietly weaves his magic into every song heard. Possibly one of the most under rated musician in Australia
@dolphinberserk3 жыл бұрын
Agreed! I also think Rotsey's guitar work is under-rated too (eg Bus to Bondi etc). And Andrew James bass lines from the first two albums. Giffo's radical use of fretless basses. One day people will start to see their individual brilliance.

Fast forward to 2020 & I often find myself in tears knowing that the Australia I grew up in & loved, no longer exists. At 17 Rob had every beat of my heart - he was fit - in every way. Decades on I'm in awe of Jim's song writing gift, for without him the soundtrack to a large chunk of my life would not exist. Ta Mr Moginie.
@MattMc3315 күн бұрын
To me, this was always their best lineup. And this concert was one of their greatest. When you are doing songs in concert that actually sound better than the album recordings, as they did many times on Goat Island, you know you've transitioned as a band to something truly remarkable. These five guys were something special; great musicians with incredible stage presence. One of the greatest musical acts this country has ever produced.

Bought it in '85 for 2 songs that got airplay here in California, turned out, as I listened to the whole album - it was fantastic! I listened to it today 31 years later, it's still a beautiful masterpiece
@Banana_Split_Cream_Buns2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely!! It often gets overlooked for both earlier albums like 10 to 1 and later albums like Diesel and Dust, but it was Red Sails that seemed to have both the art rock of their earlier years, with the folk rock of their later years, with a good dose of eccentricity, yet so tight. It's just so haunting.

Thanks Peter & the Entire Gang, I had no idea who Kosciuszko was... Tadeusz Kosciuszko was a skilled engineer with a military education by the time he arrived in the American colonies from Poland in 1776. Offering his services to the revolutionary cause, he masterminded a key British defeat at Saratoga and oversaw the building of military fortifications at West Point. At war’s end, he returned to Poland and led a valiant but ultimately unsuccessful uprising against the nation’s partition by Russia and other foreign powers. After several years of imprisonment in Russia, Kosciuszko returned to the United States, where he was welcomed as a hero and counted Thomas Jefferson among his close friends. With Poland still under foreign control throughout the rest of his life, Kosciuszko never returned to his native land, and died in exile in Switzerland in 1817.

Funny how Jim and Martin are listed as "guitar" but really mostly Jim does more lead and Martin sort of does Rhythm guitar but they also have many lead bits back and forth and unique like this sort of duelling guitars. Also you listen to Cliffords bass even in this song where he textures the notes and does little runs varying the volume; hes just that good and makes the melody so much better, HUGE asset...
