The thing that I like about PRS vs a lot of the guitar manufacturers IMO is their quality control and consistency. I used to work at a guitar shop and there were rarely any PRS guitars, whether their top line Private Stock down to SE models,j that weren't set up correctly. They all played well and all very similarly. You hear a lot of those stories with Gibsons and Fenders where you have to play all of them to find "the one" (and when you do they're fantastic, I've had quite a few).. but with PRS they're all very good.

I have an PRS S2 singlecut 2019 and PRS SE McCarty 594 and love them both. They feel and sound great. I think the only reason people say silly stuff like PRS has no "mojo" is the guitar heroes of the past generations played Fender and Gibson. If PRS had been around in the 1950, 1960 and 1970 decades, then Richards, Clapton, Moore, Page and others would have played them and we would never hear that silly crap about "mojo" again. PRS makes guitars that sound and play great.

I think most people just associate PRS with the custom 24 because that is their most famous model. But I never fell in love with that model. The first PRS that made me fall in love, was the Special 22 semi-hollow. Then I came across the Modern Eagle V and that’s when I was sold that PRS does make incredible sounding guitars. Those two guitars are the best PRS models I’ve ever tried.

I tried a Custom 24 about 10 years ago and did not like it. I assumed since that was their most popular model, PRS guitars were not for me. A few years later I tried a McCarty and fell in love. Fast forward to today and 3 of my 6 guitars are PRS (Silver Sky, McCarty 594, McCarty SC 594).

PRS is such strong competition that its critics can only make fashion arguments against the brand now -- that it's a generally lifeless, boring, uninspiring guitar. It's been an absolute gamechanger brand that has even brought other "boutique" US brands, e.g., Suhr, Kiesel, Collings, onto the radar for more affluential guitar consumers not in the vintage instrument game. And so PRS is probably the most effective evidence that the average musician experiences music in a synesthetic way -- i.e., listens with both eyes & ears -- and Blues Traveller for one made this argument in a music video nevermind, say, the US pop & country music industry in general which relies heavily on "anonymous" but immensely talented pro studio musicians using whatever they have at hand to create music at the highest levels, e.g., James Jamerson who purportedly rarely changed strings, only ever used one or several poorly set up & mass produced electric basses, and usually just went straght into the recording desk or whatever he was told to plug into. So yeah, art seems to be something that appeals from the outset to prejudices & preconceptions including which artists & what tools have the right to make it thanks for one to this cooperative sensing of our own experiences. Hence guitarists mostly aspiring not proficient nevermind pro will likely not realize no matter how many times you play the same licks & produce the same sounds with a myriad of different guitar shapes, brands, colors, etc to drive home what matters most when it comes to making music that you are having fun trolling us. But don't get me wrong. I think you should because to become conscious of our own synesthetic experiences ultimately makes those experiences feel so much richer and the art so much more precious -- much as both hearing & seeing your daughter eating fulfills you spiritially.

My son is a signed-up PRS guy (and a killer player, if I do say so myself). He's got a lovely Custom 22, and (IMO) the 22-fret PRS's work better than their more iconic 24-fret models. Personally, I would *love* a "Paul's Guitar". (The reason for which I have a small backstory I won't bore others with here.) Very sweet.

But here's the thing. My early CE( bolt on) is not perfect in every way, but it is the best designed and built guitar that I've ever bought. I'm sure some other guitar out there is my soulmate, by why should I wander the world searching for true love, when it's simpler at my relatively low level of proficiency, to adapt my playing to suit the guitar, why not love the one you're with rather than thinking the grass is always greener elsewhere. On a serious note, as soon as I played this instrument the way it was designed to be used,( thru a warm amp, but with the volume down for low gain parts) it started to sound amazing. Having done most of my early learning ( by accident during long out of it garage-band jams) on strats or Teles, I was used to playing hard snd putting all the character you could into what are more neutral sounding ( singlecoil axes). My playing on Les Psuls was the same learning curve, you just have to play certain guitars a certain way to coax the best out of them. Constantly seeking the "one", is , to me a very first-worldish sort of thing, ( not if you're in a position to do it) but it's easier to adapt yourself than look for domething better; but you're married, so you get that,( then again , as withe SE DG little cheapie on the side, if it works go for it I say. Today's Sermon comes to you courtesy of guitar-a-holics infamous.orgy. As long as you play those sweet intros, I listen to anything you say!

I have 2 SE's - A Standard 24 and a McCarty 594 double cut, both almost flawlessly made and set up from new. The cheaper Standard 24 may be even better made than the McCarty 594 so at half the price is a really, really great guitar. Both different sounding but equally good. I love the wide thin neck of the standard 24, it is so easy to play, the only slight downside of this thinness is that it seems to move more with temperature changes than the thicker neck of the McCarty 594 and needs more frequent 'tweaking' of the neck relief.

I've a 2012 PRS Studio which is built like a Custom 22 , with narrowfield pickups in the neck and middle positions and and a 57/08 Humbucker (splitable) in the bridge. It's a beautiful guitar - with a pattern thin neck, reminds me a bit of the 1960's LP carve but maybe even more comfortable. It's got a great range of sounds and although not a guitar for every occasion, it is a swiss army knife - suitable enough for most. I think you are spot on - it's finding the guitar that is right for you. I've watched videos of people complaining about PRS not having "Mojo" and then run through 50 Les Pauls before finding the one that speaks to them. I think this is the case with most guitars. In PRS' case, quality is less of a worry and finding the model(s) that are right for you is the challenge. Guitar is a very tactil experience for me and I don't really have one "thing". I've a number of guitars - Gibson, Ibanez, Gresch, Fender, D'Angelico, Squire, James Tyler, Taylor and others (a partscaster is a favorite) - each has their own flavor and job. I like them all, but I do have favorites and they are not like each other. I'm convinced the Mojo is your relationship with the tactile feel and the sound you want. And that's different for each of us.

Modded it to the 9s and bought a second one from the Cort factory to basically transform the base blue model (courtesy of my mad talented luthier) to my ideal custom shop version. I don’t know that the Grissom neck is a “Wide/fat” but, it’s the one that suits me best in their lineup. I would also posit that the SE line seems to have shamed Fender and Gibby into upping the quality of many of the Epiphone and Squire models. (I own a Mascis Jazz with upgraded components and recently acquired an example of the Bonamassa SG “Custom” that’s totally upended my opinion what’s possible from them.) I’m with you on the birds. Once I discovered the “reason for the season” I totally chilled on em. It’s a gorgeous gesture.

This isn't going to go down well but I think PRS are the apple of the guitar world. A lot of superficial sheen, polish and bling but when it comes down to it there is no "soul". They have reached the stage, again like apple, of the perception of a "quality" product at command a higher price tag but when it comes down to it don't live up to it in reality. The point about having to find the "right" one is absolutely true of all the other brands. Before you say it, at least 3 Prs have passed through my collection at some stage and it's true I can't find fault with them but at the same time I've never got THAT feeling from them which I have from other guitars.

I have an early 2000s Ce22. I've played Customs but prefer the bolt on maple neck, it has a more "superstrat" snap to the sound. Now.... I bought mine in about 2009 2nd hand when CEs were frowned on so it cost me £650. Yep total bargain. I've a Strat (or two) an LP etc but the PRS is hands down the most versatile guitar. My favorite PRS? My S2 Vela in Vintage Mahogany - direct into the amp, it sounds like a great recorded telecaster, but thanks to the pickups, coil split, etc. there's a lot more than that tone under the hood. Nearly always the guitar I grab to "do the thing" when I'm recording.

Having owned 2 PRSs and 2 Les Pauls here is my takeaway…. PRS have much higher QC standards. The necks are straight. The frets and fretwork are second to NONE. They sustain for days and feel great in your hands. You just know what you have is high end. The CE24 i had was such a smooth, fast playing guitar but ultimately i found it boring. Like, it just sounded so predictable and balanced. Its hard to describe how something sounds amazing but you dont care for it. Im not a huge fan of where the trem arm sits on those either so that contributed to me letting it go. I had a 2014 S2 Starla also. The fretwork was right on par with PRS core guitars. Extremely good. Loads of sustain and character in that guitar. I ultimately let it go because i wanted a motorcycle. I may buy another Starla at some point. Those Starla pickups were sooooo good. Especially the tapped positions. Gibson- my 2001 Les Paul Studio literally had a small notch, or chunk of metal missing from the 2nd fret right between the 1st and 2nd strings. I was a teen and didnt care and ultimately it never affected my playing but thats the kinda shit Gibson became known for for quite some time. I owned that LP for 17 yrs. Loved it. Swapped pups, has 3 fret dresses done on it over the years. Always played and sounded great. It was a players guitar. I just bought a brand new Les Paul Standard 60s 3 months ago and there was a blemish right on the mahogany side, like right where you see it when you look down while playing. I got $250 off for that so i dont mind. But also, the binding is obviously done by hand. Its not perfect. From a distance its beautiful. Close up you see tooling marks. Also the paint bled a bit where the maple top meets the neck. Its stuff like that you get with Gibson. Now let me finish by saying Gibson have completely upped their game the last 5 yrs. This Standard plays like a friggin dream and sounds just incredible. It sustains for DAAAYS and the fret work is absolutely dynamite. They plek their guitar from the factory now. Its perfect as far as fret work goes. I love this guitar. Loooooove it. Les Pauls just feel right to me. But i will own another PRS eventually. So there you go….

I love your channel and your down to earth feedback, not to mention amazing playing. I've only been playing for a year, started out with a Squier Strat, then Epiphone LP, upgraded to a Fender Strat AM Pro II, but after watching some of your previous videos (and various reviews) I bought a PRS SE Paul's Guitar from Peach Guitars online based on your recommendation of them. I live in Kuwait, so guitar shops and choices are very limited, and Peach Guitars had amazing customer service and shipping. I must say this guitar has become my favorite (even more so than my American Fender which costs twice as much) both in terms of feel and sound, which is amazing for an SE. I can't imagine how much better their new S2s will be or their Core models (saving up for those to buy in a few years). It got me hooked on PRS guitars, so I bought a PRS SE Hollowbody II which is another great feeling and sounding guitar. It's still early in my guitar playing journey, but I'm hooked on PRS guitars and will probably keep buying them in the future (craving an S2 McCarty and much later on a Special Semi-Hollow).

Heck I have as many specialty guitars like a Line6 JTV- Variax, and Danelectro electro-resonator as the one PRS. Over the years I’ve had some great ones tho… The 90’s CEs, some of the swamp ash specials, a DC9 (?), etc… All very cool, but didn’t become lifers. With that said, I bought one of those new SE standard hollowbody/piezo in ‘doghair’ on a whim and a b-stock sale. I gotta tell ya, outta the box, the quality level kinda blew me away… especially compared to Fender/Gibson. Great value compared to the used entry mid-level fender and enter level Gibson. So I started lookin at those older models again and gonna give a couple another try… Prolly an old CE or swamp ash special.. quite a few of those older ones don’t have the birds either if I remember right.

As long as it has a Pattern or Pattern Vintage neck, I know I'll enjoy it. The McCarty 594 Hollowbody II has been the dream guitar for some time, but the Semi-Hollow Special 22 has also caught my eye lately!

I think that all USA made guitars are a bit over-priced, but having said that there are some I think are worth it. I have a Les Paul that I bought new in about 1990 for £1,500 which is still fabulous and if you work out how many hours of play it’s had has cost next to nothing per hour of play. It’s also probably worth more now than I paid for it if I ever needed to sell it. My issue is with the ridiculous prices for some signature models that are no better than the usual models. I know you don’t have to buy them so who cares, but I think they taking the p**s. If I had the cash I’d buy a PRS model if I really loved it, it was under £4,000 and I thought I’d keep it for years. But £30,000 for a signature Gibson or Fender! I think not. I suspect most are bought by chief execs, sports stars etc. who hang them on a wall and rarely play them.

I’ve had an 89 PRS CE, the bolt-on neck one. I’ve had it since 94. I actually always liked PRS guitars. What I don’t understand is them copying Fender lately. I’m sure the quality is great, but in the end they’re making copies of Strats and Teles. Their original design was cool and had a place among the Fenders and Gibsons. It seems like in a way they sold themselves out.

I had an LP std for about 3 years. It was ok, but the Core Tremontis I acquired after blew the LP away. My EBMMs also blew away the LP std. Bottom line, I sold the LP after acquiring the 2nd Core Tremonti.

First tried a student's CE24 that blew me away from my other guitars that I had worked years on to play and sound great. Sold those guitars and now I own both Core Custom 24 35th and a McCarty 594 that I love. Only guitars that I have ever owned that never needed any sort of mod/upgrade. Pattern Regular and Vintage neck shapes for me, I am not a fan of thinner profiles anymore. To add the rolled edges on the Core maple neck Silver Sky is fantastic as well, cheers!

I have A PRS Custom 22 SE. It's semi hollowbody. I do like the neck, think it's the 'wide fat', color, weight of it & the general feel of it. What I have a problem with is the tone of the pickups. They are really strong to me & have seem to have a lot of mids. I've thought many times I'd just get rid of it but keep holding on to it. After some research, I found that some have just lowered the pickup - neck pickup is the main culprit - I did that, lowered it quite a bit actually, & it really helped so far. I think I like it too much to just sell it so I'm still working with it. Even the main preset I use on my Helix, I have to l adjust it specifically to use with that guitar so I created a PRS version of it.

I had a PRS SE Custom 24 for a year. I bought it after my 8 year break from guitar. I liked it for a while, but after trying other guitars, it sounded dark and muddy to me. So I sold it. But I did play a S2 Standard which was really nice. Unfortunately the strings were rusty so I couldn't fully enjoy it, but I was really impressed with the tone. I definitely need to try out some higher end PRS guitars, but I kinda don't want to because of their prices.

Of course it’s all down to what you can afford and what feels and sounds right to you but in my recent experience having tried or owned PRS SE and core guitars, since I’ve had the chance to own a Suhr, and it’s not a fair comparison, I will never look at another PRS. Period. That is not meant as a put down of PRS as they are great but my Suhr just has mojo in spades and works for me 100%

As a lefty there are a lot of guitars I've never had the chance to try and I've never played a PRS. Aesthetically I don't like most of their guitars. I don't like figured tops and prefer dot markers. The one PRS I that I would like to try is the Starla with a Bigsby. Those are nice looking guitars, but unfortunately they're not available left handed.

I’ve tried to love them for years. A couple of months ago I snagged a 2011 Santana which is genuinely a lovely guitar - but I don’t love the pickups. It does, however, have a nice fat neck which is a must for me.

John I have had such bad quality out of the PRS guitar over 2000.00 dollars and calling them was such a turn off Talked with same person there 4 or 5 times had bad frets nuts was off on one guitar I paid 200 to fix one of them still was not good prs said they could not believe that I bought the guitars that way so full of themselves. That is why I spent the extra money was the quality but was not there and no service I was dumb enough to buy nuts from them sadly I have met about 10 other people that have went through same. Every guitar from S2 and down great so. I know I will get hit by the PR Machine now but had to say my peace we should expect better out of a company that told us they are all about being better

I'm personally starting to lean away from fender and gibson some. I think I'm getting some vintage/standard/classic burnout. I usually grab a prs, superstrat (ibanez, kramer, jackson, EBMM), or a small maker, when I go to shops now. Fenders and Gibsons are starting to bore me a little honestly.

I wasn’t interested in a PRS until I bought the 2020 Core Paul’s Guitar. Love it! What a beauty. Simplicity, yet very versatile. TCI pickups sound like a slightly beefier P90, which was the sound I was looking for.

I have two Gibson Les Pauls but I continue to be astounded how great the McCarty 594 SE is. I got mine at launch but to see them with the big discounts at the end of 2023 makes me think it’s possibly the best all round guitar on the market at any price point. Coil taps, articulate pickups, great neck and stunning looks/finish. My Les Pauls are 60s necks but the fatter 594 SE neck just feels amazing (ie better than any Gibson 50s neck I’ve tried)

I've got several PRS and they're all great. The difference between Gibson and PRS is whether you like a model or not, they'll be built really well and stay in tune. Guitars are inanimate, they don't have soul or vibe. Just say you don't like this one or that one.

I have a pre-Cort , World Musical Instruments made PRS SE 277 Hollowbody baritone and it is excellent. I used to have a WMI PRS SE Custom 24 that I sold (too many guitars) and it was also excellent. I haven't owned a US PRS or a Cort SE but if I was buying a new guitar I would buy a Cort PRS SE, probably even blind without playing it because I have 2 Cort basses and they are rad, I have multiple guitars that were probably build by Cort and everyone I pick up in store is great.

PRS guitars are really well made instruments. The good thing is, there are many used ones out there. So you can find a used one for much less than what a new Standard Gibson costs. The wide fat and the DGT necks are great.

Still have my 2002 Custom 24 with HFS and VB pickups and will never get rid. The bridge pick up is certainly hot but suits high gain v well. Bridge pick up does Gary moore sound v well and it holds tune like no other guitar I have, and I have many expensive guitars. Also I would say the PRS trems are the best around bar none. Beautifully made and when i look back to paying just over £2000 in 2002 , I think this is far better than most other brand custom shop standards.

I was always put off by PRS guitars up till the last 5 years or so. Then, I noticed more of my other brands that I own were being replaced with PRS, starting with the humble 245SE. Now, i have the Silver Sky SE and the Mc Carty 594SE. I feel like I can cover so much ground with those three guitars. I used to own the custom 24 but it's neck felt too thin. But for the Tele sound, its still Fender for me.
