She had to grow up, immediately, she had basically no childhood. That was like the whole point of her making her family, she wanted what she saw as a “normal” childhood based on the shadows of humanity she roamed through. Marcy, despite everything, had people to depend on at times. People who could even be considered role models. Not to say she had it easier, she had it ROUGH, but she had better circumstances early in her development that would lead her to ultimately becoming a good person. All PB had was herself, no one to teach her, no one to keep her safe, no one to trust, no one to be loved by, no one. That’s why she’s such a garbage parent when she makes Lemongrab, she just doesn’t know how to properly care for and love a child, she never experienced it. All that said though, that’s no excuse, especially for someone in such a high position of power. She’s a bad person, through and through.

Without a candy elemental the kingdom is doomed eventually because there is no power of creation, the gumball guardian is a robot and almost certainly protecting them, people just project real world issues onto a cartoon like her "playing god". Secondly its been established several times that PB is paranoid and has major issues with control. She had security cameras in all the candy peoples houses monitoring them 24/7. She claims its cause shes worried for their safety because the candy people are some of the stupidest crestures in ooo (besides say peppermint butler) yet as the creator of the candy people she made them that way. Also the candy people hate being monitored like when scruffy ripped out his tooth with the tracking chip in it. Now they are all prisoners trapped in what best case scenario would be the adventure time version of the matrix.

Even Finn and, to a somewhat lesser extent, Jake were pretty abusive towards characters who didn't align with their perceptions precisely. I think one of the times I most hated P-Bub's side was when she opposed Peace Master, spied and seriously set out against a silly benign underground movement where citizens basicaly just wanted privacy, and Pep-But threatened and turned Peace Master's children into presumably permanent monsters. I loved all the outlaws who opposed her.

I always thought that having Princess Bubblegum be a low-key terrible person was really funny and creative considering the fact that most people have grown up on the sweet innocent Disney princess. But I can see why some people don't find it good writing-wise because she is never punished for it. Bubblegum being a subtle despot or an unethical mad scientist is mostly funny early on because it playing with the princess archetype and the series just wasn’t very serious. Once we start getting serious, the show tries to backpedal a lot with PB and make her more sympathetic and trying to minimize her role as a tyrant when they should have addressed it and made PB realize how despotic and unethical she was. Instead, they just pretended like she was super smart and awesome the whole time.

I feel the whole concept of long lived people having romantic relationships with young recent adults is this. At some point you have reached a peak of human experience within your time. But a young partner helps you relive a in a small way your youth. You experience old things as new with them. You can say, "what about raising kids?". Well yes that works but for different kinds of expeirences. The first time walking first time reading. A first day at school. Dealing with your first love and the loss of them. In essence PB is a product of being a mortal, but happens to be immortal. What I mean by that is that. Is usually being inherently immortal would come with a completely different perspective that we could never understand. But PB has all the flaws of being mortal and she happens to be immortal.

For the most part, friendships transcend age gaps in a way that romantic or sexual relationships absolutely should NOT. It's maybe a little weird to be friends with someone 20 years older than you, but if you actually have things in common, there's nothing wrong with it. Points well made and often overlooked. Poor Finn, she almost constantly uses him for free labour and no doubt enjoys his attention to reinforce her own ego. PB is what happens when someone who was not raised by a decent parental figure lives for a thousand years. PB literally created her parental figures a good 50 years or so after originally forming from the mother gum. They later wanted to kill her, if I recall correctly. Marceline had her mom to guide her the first several years of her life and Simon to guide her through the most difficult time in her life. While PB continued off alone for a long while, safely playing with her creations, Marceline later threw herself in harm's way trying to help the surviving humans in memory of Simon and her mother. She had empathy. This built a strong sense of morality into her that still showed despite the apathy that would naturally grow over a thousand years. PB's interactions were built around "what needs to change with this person so I am satisfied in this situation?" Her empathy and morals were weak, and apathy had long since taken them over.

Honestly, her being a villain for her actions doesn't make a lot of sense cause in this show so many of the good or friendly looking characters end up being the most evil things or committing the worst acts, whether intentional or accidental. While, not all, but some of the major characters that are presented as a villains or look evil, end up actually broken, sympathetic, or the most heroic. I think the writers really like the idea of gap moe and they really don't have a good vs evil like in traditional shows. Figuring out the morality in Adventure Time seems interesting but long and confusing. But I would like it if Marce or anyone would have acknowledged PB's insane antics, they would have probably dismissed it but at least acknowledge it.

I actually love that PB's character has a lot of dark sides and yet she didn't become a final boss that Finn and Jake have to fight. She still ended up being one of the main protagonist's allies despite ALL the red flags and dark atrocities she made throughout her lifetime. I like this about her not because I like her having sadistic tendencies but because it makes her character feel more real because in real life, you're gonna meet people who are toxic, have a lot of red flags and yet they're still gonna be your ally. The prime example of this is politicians who despite having lots of sh!t associated with them, millions will still vote them, support them and then they win.

I think all of what you’re saying is the point we view the story through Finn’s eyes and as he gets older more of her atrocities are presented because he starts to realize who she is, which i think in part is why we see less of her towards the end. Finn as he gets older starts to figure out who she is, but can’t fully see how messed up she is do to his biases towards her being a friend and previous crush. We even see him rebuke her towards the end for her violent and totalitarian ways. I think genuinely she does try to be a good person but she’s an immortal being who has lived and done very horrible things. Lemongrab is almost like an earlier version of her in a weird way and maybe why she understands him and helps him through existence. I think in the show she’s more a victim of circumstance having to do immoral things to keep a fragile race alive, because of constant chaotic threats but yeah she was evil at one point that’s not really at question.

I liked princess Bubblegum as a subverted princess trope. She seems nice and princess-y and sends Finn off on quests because she's, you know, a princess. But as the show goes on, we realize that she's a mad scientist and a paranoid dictator. I'm still on board with PB as a character. I think that angle is equal parts funny and interesting. The problem is that the show treats her like she's a "good guy" the entire time and never adequately has her face the consequences of her autocratic tendencies. There are a few times where she is confronted to some degree with how awful she's been, but the show never handles it in a satisfying way. I never hated PB. I just thought her story could have been handled better.

People can hate her character but I found her super refreshing and fascinating to watch. She’s brilliant and immortal, can create life and kingdoms. One episode she could being doing something kind, the next she could be doing something borderline heinous. She was a great and interesting character and I love that instead of making her sweet and loving and a “typical Princess” character, they did a lot of interesting things with her development. People making whole videos just to discuss her actions in the show should be proof enough that she is a great character. Evil, unethical, and cold, but great. I will say I did love how she tried her best to take care of the things she created into living beings. Such as the Lemongrabs, the candy people, etc. We also see some development, such as her turning off all her spy cameras. It’s why I don’t consider her a full blown villain/antagonist. She’s just right in the middle to me. Edit: I do wish they just went full villain with her at some point and have Finn take her down a peg, then she could have started a redemption arc and gotten really good development, but I fine with her being in the gray most of the time as well.

While I completely understand why some people would dislike PB, and that yes, she has done some horrible things with good intentions behind it, I still very much like her character. Despite the awful things she’s done, she’s not an awful person. Her morals can be questionable at times, and she tends to mistreat the candy people, but it all stems from her believing that she is the best person to watch over them. I can relate to that sentiment, as I have multiple pets (some birds, an elderly cat, among other animals) and I just cannot sit still and let someone else care for their needs. It has to be MY way, the way *I* do it, because *I* know what’s best for my precious feather/fur babies- *according to me*. Of course, I’m not always right, and can accidentally mistreat them to fit my perception of what I think is best. I also have small bouts of Munchausen by proxy, where my paranoia and past trauma leading to the deaths of beloved pets has caused me to worry and panic over the smallest detail that would normally mean nothing. Is my cat a couple pounds underweight? Vet visit immediately of every vital. Do one of my chickens have a slightly paler comb than usual? Tearing the pantry apart to find the poultry vitamin drops. Are the goats not eating their breakfast when that’s their favorite time of the day? Already dialing the nearest vet- I’m getting better at it, slowly. Sometimes, living creatures divert from their habits just because, and it usually isn’t something to worry about. Ever since I began taking medication and attending therapy more, I’ve become more lax about my pets’ health, while still being vigilant of illness signs. While pets do not equal hundreds upon thousands of citizens you are in charge of, I do understand the good intentions behind PB’s mistakes and accidental abuse of power. While I do not agree with things she’s done, that is what makes her such a great character that feels real :)!
