2:10 she lost several people suddenly over the years, which was explained in a 2019 article: Her godfather at Christmas Eve 2007 when she was 11 (he "collapsed" so maybe heart attack), a friend/boyfriend in 2011 at the Utøya massacre in Norway and a friend from her class in school to a car accident in 2014. She made a very sad and beautiful song for the funeral in Feb 2014 "Why Did You Have To Go?", which the girls mother made publicly available on FB in Jan 2017, and is on youtube (audio only with fan made videos). So while her statement is very dark, it is also a fact that we never know if we are still here tomorrow, so it doesn't hurt to make something that you want to be left behind.

Two documentaries: Once Aurora (NRK) - A bit intense. Filmed during a grueling 220 show tour while at the same time working on her second album. Just about broke her. Very visceral with great back and forth exchanges between her and her manager. Tons of emotions and the sides of Aurora you don't see in a "public image." Haik Documentary (NRK) - Polar opposite to the first. Fun and light. Both are insightful.

@@atomicnoogie I'll...third it! Haik is definitely a very enjoyable insightful little featurette. But Once is far more interesting and real. It really kinda highlights the moment she went from this precarious fragile overworked young girl....to the powerful confident assertive self actualized person she is today. Once really documents that liminal in-between stage well. I also just adore how it ends.....on that close up of her face as all the music cuts out and she says, matter-of-factly: _"a genius."_ She's SO the opposite of arrogant....which is why it was such a boss move to end on that note. Quite a mic drop moment. And I think it gives some insight into the fact she knows perfectly well how special and rare and unique she is....she's very much aware of the power she contains, and wants to use it in big ways. I respect that so much about her.

Yea she has several documentaries and a lot of interesting interviews etc. Some are cool and fumy, some informative and mix of it. She talks in a very interesting way and she has interesting point of view too (sometimes a little idealistic). In my opinion you can see she is an Artist even outside the scene. This small documentary is also very cool :). It starts like in hitchcock ;), but I guess at the end of documentary you already know why it starts. Death as a part of our lives has some place in her music too. It does not mean she is preparing for it but she think about it (as about other things). Additionally she had several situation when she lost someone as a child: including friend in Utoya massacre (she wrote the song "Little Boy in the Grass" related to this) and another friend in car accident (she played another a song on a funeral - song was written only for this event and only performed there - we only know it as parents of this friend posted a recording of it and it is called "why did you have to go?"). Thx for another cool reaction!

Regarding your question about her first performance or concert, she performed alone on piano in very small venues during 2013 after she got her management, like at her school, libraries and stuff like that. On Jan 16th 2014 her band formed, she said in a March 12 2014 radio interview: Magnus on drums, Odd Martin on guitar/bass and Silja on keyboard and backing vocals. They performed their first small concert on Feb 20th 2014, which was really a test concert for the upcoming concerts on Feb 28th and March 1st 2014 at the Oslo festival "by:Larm 2014", where she was really discovered by the press after those 2 concerts. It is a festival to show off new and unknown artists, and there is a single video from Feb 28th of the song Awakening, just search for Aurora by:Larm 2014, it is on the channel Tor Anders Johansen. The 2nd result on the channel AURORIAN is the full show from March 1st but audio only. Just 14 days later on March 14th, she performed on national TV NRK, just search for Aurora Awakening first tv performance, on channel Geir Luedy (her manager).

While its definitely a commitment because of how long it is, and im not sure how copy right shakes out for it, the Once Aurora documentary is i would say definitely the best thing to watch to really get to know her. It covers pretty much the time from when her career first started up to her release of her second album and its a really extensive picture of the challenges she went through and how she grew and changed as an artist and a person as well as covering her background and things like that too. And she's grown even more at this point, so it wouldnt be the most updated example, but its still super worth checking out imo. Its a strikingly honest and inspiring documentary.

Nice one 😊. Watch most of her interviews, as they are usually well worth it. Quirky and funny, but you soon discover also smart. Seems like for a lot of her fans, her personality and who she is is almost as important as her music. For anyone interested in knowing her a bit better, her Lifekeys interview is great. Over 70 minutes though, so be warned 😄

It's just who she is. Some fans of Aurora don't like her darker side and only see that she's had a fantastic life. And she has. But there is a lot of pain she and her entire family has been through as well. Example: Check out the history behind her song "Little Boy in the Grass". It's from her losing a close friend in the 2011 Norway terrorist attacks. But she shows a way forward. It all makes up who she is as a person.

Hi Alex, here are some answers to your questions. The oldest AURORA video I know of is a school performance: Aurora Aksnes - I Had a Dream (video snippet) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/aX62aJyXrZ2kr6s - June 2012 - kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZKuZqN5h5qYjLc - the hole song without video from this performance Everything after that starts in 2014 - my information. ----------------- Here is a video from a concert. AURORA speaks to the audience. The video shows you how AURORA acts on stage. Absolutely natural, free from all conventions. You will enjoy it. Then she sings a song acapella. But it's about communicating with the audience. Aurora - Nature Boy (acapella) - Melkweg-Amsterdam-The Netherlands 2018-02-28 - kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z16vpXaYhbqiiq8 ---------------- -- Music AURORA likes: --🎺🎻💽 AURORA - Quote 305: Heavy Metal & „I don't like having everything …“ (2017-02-02) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/imikloxqeKyNldU „I'm curious about your country's history of black metal.” „ Ahh, yeah.” „I know, it was around in the… I guess the 80s and 90s … [Yeah.] … Is that still a prevalent scene?” „I love Heavy Metal. We are quite dark in our country … [Yeah.] … and the weather is dark and cold and in Winter we only have three hours of light every day. Like now for example, we have three hours of light or maybe five now, but is not… is not a lot and we have like old children-tales a kind of about trolls eating humans and about… like weird creatures hiding in the water, in the fog and we have a - I don't know - I just think the whole atmosphere in our country, like the mountains and the fog, I think it hits a… it hits our brain in a way, that makes us want to make something dark out of it. Some dark music, heavy music and and I think is very common to like heavy metal. Maybe not so many girls my age anymore, because we're getting more and more influenced by the world around us, but I don't have a radio and I don't have Spotify or iTunes … [Oh really?] … or anything like that. So I still only have the records I buy, like LPs and … [Yeah.] … and CDs.” „Why is… why have you imposed that on yourself?” „Oh, because I don't like having everything… [Yeah, yeah.] … I like going out for hunting, because everything is so easy nowadays and you can get everything you want … so easy. I can buy an elephant on the internet, if I want to. Like it's incredible how easy it is to get everything you want and it makes me feel bored. I like going out for the hunt.” ---------------- Interview with her sisters AURORA - Lindmo Interview (With Miranda & Viktoria Aksnes) [Eng Subs] - kzbin.info/www/bejne/gp2Xp6dtgLqkjMU Thank you very much for your great work. I'm very happy that you like AURORA so much. She is indeed unique and incomparable compared to the singers of this generation. First a clarification, she is closer to Bjôrk perhaps in her accent, but the voice, the way of being, the dancing especially brings her closer to Kate Bush. Another particularity of the Norwegian and the English is the ability to vary their voices while being recognizable among 1000 people, which is very rare. Have you had the curiosity to find out about “his career” which is unique in itself. At 6 years old, she was ill and then discovered music. Shortly after, she found the piano abandoned by one of her sisters in an attic. She taught herself to play it and then to compose her first melodies without help. At the age of 9, following the suicide of a loved one, she composed and wrote lyrics in English to express the feelings that this tragedy inspired in her, it was "Lucky". Then she wrote “Running with the wolves”. At 11 years old, she got lost during a walk in the forest (she loves being alone in her room or in the surrounding woods because she can then put her thoughts to music and songs and interpret them with "nature" as her only listener... that's what makes her so unique, everything comes from this nature which advises her and which she learns to imitate in her voice, like the first "humans"... which brings her closer above all to the "tribal" music of the "Rite of Spring" by Stravinsky a century ago!)... ...and this inspires "Runaway", she incorporates into this song her rejection of not being able to be permanently in her family cocoon, for example her rejection of school. In 2021, this song becomes the most shared of all time. But until he was 14, no one suspected his musical talents, even in his family. And when those around her discovered her first works, her mother reacted by telling her that she could not keep this talent to herself because what she created and sang did good to everyone. At almost 16 years old, she suggested to one of her teachers that she write a song instead of a free essay asked of each student in her class. She then wrote "I Had a Dream" and sang it in front of her class then at the request of her teacher in front of her high school, a student filmed it without her knowledge and published it on Facebook, the video went viral, thousands declared themselves fans in the world and she ends up being contacted by record producers. She did not want to be a singer but became one, she only wanted to write songs for others (more than 1000 in 2021, including a hundred that she recorded in audio that can be found on KZbin but not on records and which are at the level of the most known that she sings).

I really enjoyed watching this again with you. There are better documentaries of her, but this is a great introduction, especially since it was inspired by her personally. I know it's kind of shocking to hear someone so young recognize their immortality, but as you said, she thinks differently. She wasn't being fatalistic, but just realistic, that you never know when your time is going to be over. I think that you're right that there's not much difference between Aurora's public face and her private face. She's very authentic and very much herself at all times. She has said many times that she doesn't care what people think of her, and that freedom allows her to be herself at all times, with virtually no filters and with complete honesty. So, what you see is what you get. That could be a negative for some, but for Aurora it's very much a positive. I'm not sure about her first recorded appearance, but her first TV appearance happened in 2014, and it's definitely worth checking out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWOkZYFogrSgg9k
