For stripping a lot of catnip/mint I recommend starting at the base of the newest growth with the flower and going towards where the roots would be. Make it super smooth and satisfying!

Great video, I have lots of catnip in the garden and leave some of my plants to flower because bees like them. I leave seeds on the plant throughout the winter because goldfinches returning from the South in spring eat the seeds.
@OkanaganGardenerandForager4 ай бұрын
I've also noticed they seem to be very popular with bees. Thank you!

Thank you for all the information on how to harvest, store and use catnip! I grew catnip this year in pots. I have a very nice place for it on the south side if my house. I will plant it there. ❤❤❤ ( And I thought it was only for cats, lol! They don't seem to care for it.. (?) I just subscribed. I will be watching all of your videos. 😍

When plucking off all the leaves at once from the stems, go the opposite way that they are angled. (ground-wards/down) Rather than a struggle, they will snap off easily and be less damaged.

Glad to see you're still in the game. I discovered the paper bag method years ago. I also discovered that if you don't tumble the leaves frequently, mold can take hold of some herbs. I usually only wash leaves that might have white splatter on em 🐦 🦜 😂

I too thought of using my veggie spinner to dry stuff. Thanks for the paper bag idea. I store bulbs in them over winter but now have a new use. My one cat loves catnip the other not so much so like us we all have our preferences.

Hello - thanks for your videos, I was going to suggest to dry it well before placing in the oven ( like on a previous video) then it’ll dry faster! And I didn’t hear what temperature to “ cook” it in. So if you haven’t done so yet- would be good to know.😊 Thanks!!

If I were to put it in an oven or dehydrator, I'd put it in at the lowest setting. Thank you, too!

My phone is not that good with picture/colors. Was those flowers on the plant a light pink? I would like to try to recognize it in the yard or wild. Thanks
@OkanaganGardenerandForager4 ай бұрын
Sorry, I didn't do a very good job showing the flowers in this one. There are some good close shots of the flowers in this video if you're interested. They're usually white with purple or pink spots. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6iXpWxpa5iKrMUsi=JlRs6oMy-v09iNsY

Does anyone know what's the spacing between the catnip?
@OkanaganGardenerandForager2 ай бұрын
I've never planted them, but they can get pretty big and take up a lot of space. I would try 6-12" apart.

??? Can you dry it in a dehydrator? Lowest setting of course, thanks for all your info and sharing.
@OkanaganGardenerandForager4 ай бұрын
@@MsDianaWeeks I don't see why not. I would monitor it closely because I think it would be dry pretty quickly. You're welcome, and thank you, too!

It’s late August in BC…plant has probably finished producing flowers for the year. Can I harvest anything on it now?? Or is all the energy going into the roots, so I should wait for next spring?
@OkanaganGardenerandForager2 ай бұрын
My plants often grow back again in the fall. I would cut the ones that have flowered down to six inches or so, let some new shoots grow, and harvest again before winter.

And why not just pluck off the leaves ( after harvesting) so you’d have only them to process & not worry about picking them out of the finished product? I bought a plant & it IS growing “ like a weed” 4 sure! I’m wondering if anybody tried to give it to their cat just fresh? I mean in the natural environment that’s the way they would eat it right? If anybody knows about that, please do post it thanks a lot!
@OkanaganGardenerandForager3 ай бұрын
I think you could definitely just pluck the leaves off after harvesting if you want to. Sounds good to me!
